affiliate13, I take back what I said earlier in the topic.

Seeing these better pics, I now believe ^^this^^ is what happened.

Yes, i couldnt work out why liquid was initially seeping from the fittings, i thought the hoses had slipped; i had felt the fittings were hand tightened well enough.
I should have realised that it was unlikely that both hoses would have slipped but as ive not used comp fittings previously i thought it was me.
Convinced it was the hoses i took it all off and re-mounted before getting the pliers out and wrecking the rad, using barbs late on in the saga was little more than re-arranging deckchairs as the flood waters rose around me.

how can the fesers own fittings hit it? Unless it was manufactured wrong as in the holes way to close to the curve there.

Dunno, 45s or spacers would have prevented this.
I had some spare 45s but i cut my tube holes right over the inlet/outlets where the rad was to be mounted so striaght fittings or barbs were my options.

Yeah i wrecked it alright, but not before successive mounts and checks.
I got the pliers out when i got desperate, TFC 1/2" fittings do not fit this rad with out spacers.

That is pretty dumb, I haven't tried any of the feser fittings, all of mine are koolance and only low profile 90's. Anything that doesn't need a low profile 90 gets a standard barb in my builds.

On a positive note, I bet you never do anything like that again!

Those two marks on the tank are in line with the knurling for the fitting, if they were made by the fitting it would be one continuous mark. Sorry for the OP but it looks to me like he screwed up the radiator with a tool, most likely needle-nose pliers from looking at the pics. If you look at the marks you can see that they are heavily gouged by something in two very distinct places inconsistent with what the knurling would cause.

There is nothing wrong with the design, sorry OP it sucks for you but if you actually get an rma you should be singing praises for whoever gives it to you!

Its a tough call did the crack happen when because he tightened down the fitting with some needle nose pliers or was it just bad manufaturing.

My take on it is this:

I should not have assumed that Feser 1/2" fittings would have fitted despite appearing to fit just fine until i started pumping.
Ive looked at the marks closely and i would say 2/3mm taller thread housings or 2/3mm larger gap between the thread housing and the slanted body of the rad would have prevented this.

Given that Feser know what size their fittings and rads are and how popular 1/2" fittings are i can see why they wouldnt have checked this.

However blame rests with me for getting the pliers out in the end, i simply ran out of things to try and assumed they were just not tight enough.
What annoys me is that even now i cant imagine that there is anything i could have tried/checked that would have resulted in me not getting the pliers out.

Well at least you did that on your own build. I did it to a friends build before and pulled the damn bung hole right off. Why? Because I was obviously not thinking and used pliers for the fitting and could not figure out why it just kept leaking. So not to be outdone by this fitting I wrenched really hard and fitting complete with bung hole was in hand and water all in the bottom of the case and leaking on to the table and my lap then the floor. An interesting experience to say the least especially since the fitting was missing it's o-ring and all I needed to do to begin with was change out the fitting or put on a o-ring.

I guess this is why the rad comes with 3/8 5/8 fittings even though originally they said it would come with 1/2 3/4. Oversight on thier part? Seems kind of crappy but I am glad I saw this before trying to put 3/4 fittings on the one I have coming as looks like I could have very easily done the same. They should put a warning in the box!

Stranger and stranger...

Just a little update.

I got an email from the supplier stating they have tested the radiator found the cracks and are replacing it under normal warranty and not with the insurance.

I asked why under normal warranty and not insurance if it was me using the fittings that likely as not created the cracks, they guy i spoke to was helpful but not the tester so his opinion was limted to saying that if they had felt i was to blame they would have invoked the insurance to cover it.

I think it was me tightening the fittings too hard in the end, so i am curious to know what Feser will make of the returned item.

Bluehaze, did yours arrive ok and install fine?

My replacement should be here tomorrow and i will be using my trusty DD fatboys so we can prolly close this discussion up unless anyone else can add more info.

anyhoo, just thought you guys would be curious to see how it panned out in the end.

Yes, seems so.
This is troubling, since i had insurance and it was entirely my fault (though it still irks me that the fittings were too big by 2mm) the point of this insurance was for accidental install damage so these circumstances would surely define just that.
The only one to benefit from this is the insurer as no claim has been made.
Just seems like a waste.

One good thing came out of the whole ordeal, when returning the damaged unit i released i had neglected to return the 140x3 rubber noise damper so now i have one for each side.

Yep mine arrived, and it works fine with Bitspower 1/2ID 3/4OD compressions. They are very close and almost touch that part of the rad as yours did but I can see a sliver of light between there. You must have tightened them very hard to do that or else recieved a defective product. Not sure...
