pci-e is touchy for me 110 is even unstable (4870x2) I'm curious on QPI/VTT and IOH voltage as well, I noticed a huge memory performance gain with knocking up the QPI speed. I'm running the lowest setting right now 3800mhz i believe and putting just one more up to about 3900 brought big gains in memory tests. Does anyone have these stable at a higher setting?

Why on earth would you want to OC your PCI-E? It will do nothing but cause system instability in the long run...

What kind of issues with the OCZ 1600 CL7 (I'm going to buy them)?

anyone encounter problems running elpida hyper 2000 cas7 on this mb? And does settings for RTL and DRAM REF voltage helps with making the ram stable @ 2000Mhz cas7 and above?

    Hi.

Do you have any incompatibility issues with your 4870X2 and the board?

    I have a HIS 4870X2.

When the machine is overclocked, the board gives me a VGA beep code; 1 long beep and three short beeps because the card will not initialize.

This beep code only happens on cold boots and not restarts.

    It is annoying as hell...

Also, I can run 115 PCIe no problems....118 makes the video very choppy...120 and I lose my SATA.

No problems here for me. 7-8-7-20-72-1N no problem at 1.67v

I have the DRAM REF and RTL set to auto...

Sounds like you may need to raise your VTT voltage....

Running them below 1.65 is asking a lot isn't it? What is wrong with 1.67v? lol

    Yes, 1306

I am very curious about this RTL now.

This is a quote from Anandtech:

"...we grabbed our trusty DFI LanParty UT X58-T3eH8 and updated it with the latest magical mystical BIOS from Oskar, Jarry, & Company. This particular BIOS is very D0 stepping friendly along with incorporating a few changeable settings like Round Trip Latency (RTL) that allows us to clock our Corsair Dominator GT memory kit a little higher than the other X58 motherboards."

They do not mention what the RTL settings were, but they were able to reach 2100 7-8-7-20 1T 1.69v

no its not true on that bios
the new bios can run even lower rtl

the problem was the difference in rtl and other settings

    that statement is now void.

btw setting the rtl that high u loose a lot of latency and bandwidth..

no, no issues so far... however, I just bought another 4870x2 because with my old x2 I would get a VGA Bios error. No matter if I was stock, overclocked or what it didn't matter I couldn't get the comp to boot. Tried a different video card and it was fine. This is the second time I heard something like this about the x2 on this board. I better fire up the old x2 on a different comp, it might not be burnt out after all.

Could it be a PSU related issue?

There are some PSU related issues with this board. I was having the cold boot problem. Config was: i7 965, R2E, 12Gb Corsair 1600 CL8 RAM, 3 x Zotac 285 AMP!. A PSU change fixed it. I had the Thermaltake 1500W PSU and it had the cold boot issue. Switched the PSU with a Enermax Revolution 1250W unit, cold boot issue is gone.

Strange, I had the gigabyte EX58-Extreme coupled with thermaltake 1200w and thermaltake 1500w and had this cold boot issue, changed to the ASUS Rampage 2 Extreme and the problem is gone!!!

The Platinum 1600 7-7-7-24 1.65v ones, it could be a certain batch or a certain chipset they are using, im guessing the micron's ics are the ones having issues, because there is platinum with green PCB and Black PCB, i think green one was ok. The issue is its not stable above 1333, 1600mhz is BSOD city when running Linx or P95. Good luck, be ready to return them.

    I doubt it...I'm using a PC P&C 1KW-SR

I only have 1 sound card, 1 optical drive, 2 64GB SSDs on the PSU other than the 4870X2...

    Hi.

I'm getting a VGA BIOS error I believe as you were. As soon as the board tries to initialize the VGA, I get the VGA beep code and then the screen goes black.

So what I did to make sure that it wasn't the card, I flashed the card with a totally different BIOS. I flashed the mstr/slv GPUs with the Asus TOP BIOS - I still get the VGA beep code but the card runs a hell of a lot better.

I need to do more testing, but I believe it only happens when the machine is overclocked....my machine is down atm, I'm waiting on a new CPU.

With two different BIOSes giving me the same VGA beep code, I was thinking that it may be an incompatibility issue with the board OR a PSU problem as suggested by another member.

However, my PC P&C 1KW-SR should be plenty for one graphics card and so I sort of ruled it out...but who knows....

    Any thoughts?

I'm going to throw the stock air cooler on my old x2 and see if I can get it to boot on my sons machine. What I don't understand is that this new card works fine? no issues yet. I had a hard time a first because I couldn't get the computer to boot then I put the PCI-E back to 100 from 110 and the card booted fine.

    Hi.

    That is a good observation.

I have found a similar observation.

If I make a PCIe bus frequency change, the card will give me the VGA beep code on a restart...however, after the second restart, all is well again unless I: 1. change the PCIe frequency again or 2. I cold boot the machine....

I have a feeling that it I have some sort of incompatibility with my board and this card - especially with the VGA beep codes showing on PCIe frequency changes.

To back up my diagnosis even further, I previously had a GTX 280 before the 4870X2...NO problems whatsoever. (I know that the 4870X2 requires more power). All that I have done is change cards and the VGA beep code is there - even with another manufacture's BIOS.

As soon as the R2E B3 chipset revision has been confirmed and is available, I'm going to RMA this board claiming a PCIe problem and get the new B3 chipset....

Maybe that will fix the problem....

I'm gonna say this again, overclocking PCI-E bus is completely pointless. If you want to get better graphics performance OC your graphics card, not the PCI-E bus.

    Hi all,

Does any one try and get it 2000 MHz on memory in an 24/7 use?

    Thanks
