UVD, the 120mw VXD HD, etc are all hardcoded hardware decoders AFAIK. So, no drivers will make they capable of decoding rmvb, or1080p H.264 with 9 reference frames, etc.


AFAIK, there is no hardware aceleration for containers.

Of course not, I was saying any codec in any container, among those who are widely used.

I referred this because until a month ago, the hardware acceleration for H.264 cards couldn't be used with matroska packs (PowerDVD didn't support them). MPC: HC came to solve that, and it doesn't even use the dedicated hardware acceleration.

Also, Tottentranz having posted it does not take away my right to vent my anger over this...I was seriously considering this laptop

Trying to play COD4 and Crysis in a netbook would be.. stupid..
But to have some serious gaming in the netbook, it doesn't have to be the latest or most demanding games to this day.

A 9400M or a HD32000 with Atom/Nano would allow us to play UT2004 (maxed @1024*600), Far Cry (medium @1024*600), most MMORPGs to date, Half-Life2, CS:S, Doom 3, Quake IV, both KOTORs maxed out, Sims2, GTA:SA, Indigo Prophecy, CIV4, Portal and many others.
Now tell me: isn't this serious gaming?

Funny how @ CES 2009, the upcoming nVidia ION setup based on an Intel 330 Atom CPU coupled with an nVidia 9400m GPU was able to not only play Call of Duty 4 at easily acceptable frame rates.... it also played the movie "BOLT" in 720p while at the same time RENDERING the movie into a format to play on an Apple iPhone.


Yea.... I was extremely skeptical about the performance of the ION considering it was a 9400m with a dual core 1.6ghz Atom processor.... but after seeing the demonstration in person, I was beyond amazed.

Heck.... I'm actually considering buying an nVidia ION based Nettop to use as secondary system to my main workstation.


Being able to have a desktop PC small enough to practically fit in your pocket is pretty sweet. I think the following photographs speak for themselves!

Running FullHD video on netbooks with 1024x600 screen res is just ridiculous. It doesn't even meet the 720p, so running 1080p on them makes no sense.
