No thank you. Remember the old netburst days where heat was the biggest problem. These days are back with i7 Core. They clock nicely but need a lot of voltage and make a lot of heat. The first boards are already dying from the heat.

I think I stay with my Q9450 for a while and maybe go for a Q9650 if I want more CPU power.
Well i was referring to the ram more than anything else. For the price of the ram, which he probably won't feel any changes, a nice SSD will give him a noticeable speed boost as the bottleneck is at the harddrive level these days. The i7 is first gen product, so there are bound to be issues most of the time.

Guess i got lucky with the used OEM proc i just got, that and im not afraid to run some volts to it.... It wont do a even 500fsb, that push's the mem to 1201, and it wont even boot. I have to have some serious NB volts for this also (bios 1.75), but temps are staying nice, both on the proc, and board, so i think im ok... Just finished a 4hr COD-WAW marathon, so its stable as far as im concerened....

Try something different. Use a lower CPU multiplier to see if you can get it stable at the FSB you want.
Run MemTest86+ V2.11 like that. When you can't get it to run stable in MemTest86+ with a lower CPU multiplier you know that your memory is the problem.

You are right the harddrive is the bottleneck.

What do you guys think? Would this be worth having 24/7 100% stable?

With a faster CPU you gain another 200-300MB/s.

This is what I've found for the DRAM Timing Control 5-5-5-18-5-62-9-5. When that doesn't work try 5-6-6-18.

Try with delaying the DRAM CLK Skew on Channel A/B with 50ps.

Try to get that MemTest86+ V2.11 stable. Lower your CPU multiplier to 9 to be sure that it isn't you CPU that is making errors in MemTest86+ V2.11.

    Nice memory benchmarks

I tried to squeeze some more out of my rig yesterday, and ended up corrupting some OS files

Since I have 8GB, it's harder for me to overclock and have good stability..

It isn't possible to squeeze more out of the OCZ Reaper HPC PC2-8500. At DDR 1120 they start making errors in MemTest86+.

The memory benchmarks are very nice with the G.SKILL F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI.
Unfortunately the board randomly fails with the memory running faster than 1200MHz.

Will adjusting clk skews help me lower voltage required by ram/nb to work stable? Or will it require me giving more power?

It helps you to fine tune your settings with lower voltage and can help you to achieve higher clocks that wouldn't be stable without adjusting the clock skews.

To give you an idea 8 X 465MHz, DDR 1239MHz and tRD 6 isn't possible without adjusting the clock skew. Without adjusting the clock skews it fails within seconds in Prime95.

This is a copy of a post from the ASUS Rampage Formula forum.

Nobody seems to be running stable on his board with memory speeds at +1200MHz.

I already contacted the ASUS Global Tech Support for that problem but I never got an answer back. It's easier to deny the problem than to fix it.

This board is powered with a X48 Chipset that is made for +1600MHz memory speeds and shouldn't have problems with +1200MHz.

When you've got memory that should be running at 1200MHz or more and you can't seem to run stable on your board with that memory speed, contact the ASUS Tech Support with a Technical Inquiry and ask them to fix the problem in a new BIOS release.

You've got two problems. You've got to push your memory to run at 1200MHz and the board doesn't seem to handle the higher DDR speeds very well.

There's not much you can do about it besides complaining to ASUS like I did.

Look what the G.SKILL F2-9600CL5D-4GBPI can do on a different board. Here's the link to that post.

Is this board that much better or does it have a decent BIOS that can handle the higher speeds?

My guess is that it has a decent BIOS that can handle with that high DDR speeds.

Ohh... And I forgot to mention that if they can't or won't fix this issue with this board they should remove the 4 X 1 Giga Corsair 1250MHz Memory from the QVL that we don't have to buy Memory that can't run at it's rated speed on this board.

@A-Grey: Seems Moderate Clock Twister is faster for me than Stronger(Copy speeds 10300 in Moderate and 9100 in Stronger).Shudnt it be the other way round; ie, Stronger shud give better results, na?

Running with Ai Clock Twister Stronger is difficult to have it stable at high FSB a lot of memory and fast CPU's. You should have better bandwidth with Ai Clock Twister Stronger if you can run it stable like that.

I don't know what your current settings are but it's probably because it isn't stable with Ai Clock Twister Stronger the timings are probably to tight for that speed.

The same thing can happen with memory too. Tight timings give you better bandwidth but when they are to tight you will lose bandwidth.

But I have to say that losing 1200MB/s is a lot.

You might want to try Ai Clock Twister at stock speeds to see if the same thing happens.

    Edit:

I just did a test to try it out.

For my 8 X 450MHz, DDR 1199 and tRD 6 setup I gain 127MB/s Read, 0MB/s Write and 24MB/s Copy. I have to raise the NB Voltage from 1.33V to 1.49V to run the EVEREST Cache & Memory Benchmark with Ai Clock Twister Stronger. The timings with Ai Clock Twister Stronger are definitely to tight for that setup and is probably going to give stability problems.
