Exclamation Shuttle AN50R no go with 1 GB of RAM

I guess I'm not the only one not beeing able to run 1 GB of ram on the Shuttle AN50R. I spoke to a technician at the shop were I bought my Shuttle yesterday and he said that NONE of his customers had succeded with this. I think he said they sold around 50 boards.
After some talking we came to the conclusion that all people having troubles running 1 GB had updated their bios to the latest one while my buddy are running 2x512 MB Kingston on his board whithout a problem. So I asked him about his bios version. He said he didn't upgrade his bios but had no idea witch one he had.

So I beg U all, Shuttle AN50R owners, who are having this problem to try downgrading bios and give it a shot. Please report back here so I and all others can sleep tight tonight...

    I'm using 2x 512MB double sided with S00Y bios.
Only thing that hurts is that clockgen multi-adjustement will freeze with both sticks installed.
With only 1 stick there are no freezes in clockgen.

Be carefull with downgrading the bios, the bios my board came with didn't have the option to set mem timings!

I was looking all over for it but couldn't find it but remembered something about this being a bios issue, flashed with bios date 10/30/2003 and they just popped up in the DRAM config.

It's a common issue with 2x512 in these boards, boards don't seem to like double sided RAM.

You're right Zeus. There are no mem timings with the older bios. But to me it's worth sacrificing to make the board stable with a gig of RAM. If one manage to get the board stable with the old bios one would know for sure it's a bios issue and therefore be able to push Shuttle harder to release a new bios that will fix the issues.

    Arf!

Are you saying that only one person has succeeded in running 2x512MB with Shuttle AN50R using any bios?

Oh my, my CPU should arrive tomorrow and I already have my 2x512 Hyperx and Shuttle AN50R (v. 1.2) waiting.

    <sigh>

At stock its fine for me, but anything above that isn't stable (I think 205 is stable, haven't really tested)

    Using 512x2 Mushie Lvl 2 3500

What brands of ram are you guys using? For some odd reason I'm under the impression that people with HyperX are able to run it without much of a problem

I am running 2x512 MB Corsair XMS3500 rev 1.1 here. So far no problems on stock speed but as soon as I get over 217MHz it will not handle 2-2-2-5 anymore, even with 3,3V.
But with a lower ram divider I am now at 2700MHz with my A3000+.

Btw. I used the last two bios revisions.

Same here, try running Cas2,5, works for me.
At Cas2 i can go up till 217, with Cas2,5 it goes all the way till 234.

Running 2*512MB corsair 3200LL no probs. Does up to 225MHz @ 2.9v 2-3-2-6 (using CH-5). Does 210MHz with the voltage set to Auto.

Running i think it was the Y bios, not the latest one, but the one b4 that.

    I've tried 2x512 ocz 4000 gold...
Using banks 1&2, the pc was constantly rebooting itself, while it was trying to load windows.
Trying banks 1&3, the pc loaded windows successfuly, run a load of benchmarks fine, but couldn't run any 3d bench at all....
Will give it a go with banks 2&3, just in case I'm lucky....

    Bios dated 10/30/03.

Can't run 2 x 512 MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 (BH-5) stable. System crashes by itself even when idling on desktop.

I've tried banks 1/3, 2/3 and 1/2 and 1/2 seems to offer the highest stability (at least in Memtest, where I can loop for hours without problems).

Will try another PSU later on just in case, but 480W ATX12V v1.3 should be enough (I'm running measly Rage128 Pro AGP now and default voltages).

    regards,
    Halcyon

Tried 2x512MB Corsair BH-5, they'll only do 215MHz, even with 3,4V they won't do more on that board.

Now I'm using 2x256MB Mushkin Level II at 3,1V 245MHZ 2-2-2-6. (did not try 2-2-2-5 yet)
