Can the D0 stepping of the 920 arguably be a better option than my Batch#3837A core i7 940? How about vs. a 965 / 975?

That depends on some many factors. Mostly, are you happy with your performance? Do you already have a good OCing proc?

I think D0 in general will be better than C0, but whether it is worth the upgrade or not is a different question.

    Anyhow...
My awkwardly worded post needs clarification, I didn't mean I primed for 24 hours straight.
Usually, guys will push their chips to voltage/heat extremes to get an impressive prime achievement, then back off their voltage for 24/7 operation.
If I did the same thing, (down volt after prime at 4.01Ghz/ 1.184 vcore) then no telling how low vcore I could go for 24/7 @ 4.01 Ghz. I never bothered to see how low vcore I can go since 1.184 is plenty low enough.
1.184v at 4ghz is beautiful. I've actually taken the opposite approach and have been pushing my 24/7 max clocks and not really worrying about voltages anymore lol. I'll say this though, lapping this 920 has made a nice improvement. 4.57ghz HT off, 1.55v now might peak at 80C running wprime1024m, when before that would take it into the low 100's Linx? eff that action lol.

Thanks for the compliment though, coming from you that's pretty nice to hear because imo, you're 10x more valuable to these forums.

All D0s Batches are Great. My W3520 did 222x20 at low volts. Could've gone a lot higher but Biostar X58 Bios stops you from exceeding 4.0GHz Uncore.

    Here is mine:

    Xeon W3520 | 4410Mhz | 1.312v | 21x | 210Mhz | DDR-III-840Mhz | on | Gigabyte EX58 Extreme| WAKÜ | 3845A935

But I'm not able to get the 215th Bclk stable...I think my Board-Limit has reached!

Woops - corrected to 3858A795 (luckily I wrote it down before slapping on the stock cooler for bench test).

What is weird is that the box label says 3850A795 maybe my eyes are playing tricks or the lettering is just so small on die - will have to double check it when I pull off the stock cooler...............

Nice, what type of cooling do you have ? Since I have a similar set-up on air, and the same batch of chip !

How long will it prime like that ?

Edit: currently priming small fft @ 1.296v 21x205 (no HT) hottest core is 73c

you can probably assume he has watercooling.

His temps are excellent. Voltage for the speed is awesome.

Can't wait to get my W3520. The Australian winter is coming as well (not that you could really class it as winter), so more chances for benching high numbers

Temporarly I'm colling with water. Eheim Station and Triple Rad. Next weekend I will setup my MoRa into the system. Then I can reach better temps. How long will it prime you asked....I don't know, cause I think 1.5 hours primestable is much enough! Playing more than 5 hours is possible, so what do I need more?

Your temps seem to be much better than mine. Take watercooling and you're on the run to get 60°C
