A weeks worth of posts lost?

#%&*@#!!! It looks like we are back to where we were after the last outage. We lost over a weeks worth of posts. Daks last 2 penalties are gone. Anyone know what happened?? Did the SSDs take a dump?

Hey OC, it looks like I'll have to remove the covers on my 9800 GX2s and re-apply thermal paste. The hot weather is here and my Apt got up to 90 F. Some of the GX2s were hitting 115C.

WTF, they'll melt themselves! Could you look up the VRM temps? They must be even higher lol.

Ya, but for real, what happened with XS?

I was only running 1750 on the shaders. I remember when the GX2s first came out someone posted a You Tube video of someone frying eggs on them.

Yep, don't get me started on how bad the backup system for this site is.

I've never attempted to strip the cooling on any GPU is it mx2 all the way or are there those pads like on mosfets to deal with too?

The covers off pic is at: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=9402

Shadow.......250mm fan? you don't mess about with those small 120's then

I was also going to ask about temps, mostly concerning the core/memory. Can I underclock core/memory way down to reduce the overall temp? Or will it not make much difference.

On the 2nd set of quad GX2s I brought online this weekend, the XFX GX2s don't seem to be able to sustain the 1700+ shaders so I had to ratchet them down to mid-1600s for stability. Windows was randomly resetting when I had them @ 1702-1746.

Re: weeks worth of posts lost, yep, I can see from my post count that they've been lost

Blah....Not talking to you about temps.....you got all the pie

What temps are the new cards folding at? Wfo may have it on this one ...it might be time to replace the thermal paste

Have a look at the fah forum post I linked above those ideas might help you some

oh and what makes of cards are you using?

The eVGA GX2s seem to be stable @ 1700+ shaders whereas the XFX GX2s can't go above 1700 w/o causing resets.

Haven't played with ratcheting down core/memory yet.

When replacing thermal paste on GPUs, it's been advised that I use Ceramique rather than AS5 due to the electrical conductivity of AS5 vs Ceramique. Would Shin-Etsu X23-7783D also fit the bill, too?

ArcticSilver has never been a problem in bare core Athlon times, so why should it's conductivity matter now on a GPU that has a heatspreader anyway? All bollocks I say, just take what you have around, anything is better than the standard blob. Using so much paste that it drips off and damages something on the PCB is ill-advised anyway, with a thin layer of ASx you'll be as fine as with Ceramique, or even better.

MX2... that was it. I was searching for the name to include it in the list, since I read it's doing pretty well.

    That and maybe Coollaboratory.

I've had the same mx2 tube for a year and a half, it's done quite a few for me. easy to work with too.. in fact one of my quads has been using the same application since nov 2007, and it still works good (3.33ghz 56c folding).. and I just used it on my msi gts250's and they dropped about 4c. but msi did a horrid job, looked like a messy cake icing sludge under there.

Agreed! The first penalty is a repeat of my last penalty on Dak. The 2nd is a 2nd penalty on Fugger. Sheesh! Maybe if we bought him a bottle of Cialis he could keep the website up or at least "backed up."

New penalty on Fugger cuz he can't keep it up...

BTW, A big Way to Fold guys!!! It's hard to keep a team together with 20-30% forum downtime. We're over 700K in 24hr and Team Helix is in our sites!!!

Bonus penalty for folding too hard.
