    yeah but PIC-E2 + 6-Pin + 6-pin = 150+75+75 = 300W - PIC-E2 + 6-Pin + 8-pin = 150+75+75+75 = 375W IIRC

so basically if there two 6 pins then it takes about 300 if there is 6+8 pin it takes 375?

Are these coolers the same as the 4870s or have there been any design upgrades? ATI hasn't exactly been running all that cool with its high end models lately so I'm curious if these are marketed to OC a lot how many of these will be dieing in droves.

actually the ATI cooler is pretty good, its just the retarded fan profile they put on the 4870 that made them run hot

I agree. Right now, running F@H on my 4870 @ 850 core, and fan manually set to 46%, not too loud, core is at 78C (with an ambient of 80F).

And I remember a bit back, that someone claimed that there is a third heatpipe on the 4890's sink.

A 3rd heat pipe would be nice, more importantly non crap paste would be nice too. Too much dicking around taking the cooler off for something that could have been done easy from the start. Keep me posted if it does have another pipe

Suppose to be a 3 heatpipe HS vs the 2 heatpipe heatsink of 4870.
Can see the third heatpipe in this pic and this compared to the 2 heatpipe design of RV770, seen here, here and here.

Edit- Also had heard that they should be using a newer model fan on reference retail cards that perform slightly better as well, airflow and noise, but I haven't seen any proof of that yet other than slightly different numbers on the fans but I can't find good enough pictures for either one.

XFX Radeon HD 4890 pictured, priced and on sale

First to spill the 'real' beans on the Radeon HD 4890, Dutch store Salland is now listing one of the two XFX RV790 cards as being in stock and ready for snatching by impulsive buyers. Available here, at 259.95 Euro, the card is bundled with Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X., and is based on AMD's reference design meaning it features a 55nm RV790 GPU clocked at 850 MHz, 1GB of GDDR5 memory at 3900 MHz, 800 Stream Processors and a 256-bit memory interface ...............

It sounds like AIBs have to hold off releasing the OCed versions until later in the month.

    any clock for clock details?

Cause if its the same i see no reason to upgrade, mines does 840/1100 on stock voltage so im fine with it.

Still just the supposed 6% increase, which was assumed due to the previous rumor of a 20% increase in performance over RV770.
A few Vantage benches also seemed to point to a IPC increase with scores of a RV770 @ 820mhz compared to the RV790 @ 850mhz.

    I think 4890 1GB stock ~ GTX 275 (GTX295/2) and OC 4890 2GB > GTX 285 = OC GTX 285

Reference cards like our PowerColour's have solder points for 8+6 pin but physically only 2x6 pin. OC cards have 8+6 pin.

Well vantage is quite the most irrelevant thing ever.

The preeleminary benches from pconline dont show this gains.
All lower then 13% beside vantage, and ~13% is the increase in clockspeed on core and ~8% on mem which also adds a couble of % to the all over performance gain.

I dont think the 4890 is worth the upgrade for anyone who owns a HD4870 or 260GTX, espeicla with the option of a soft/bios voltmod for those cards.

Better wait for the 5 seriers.

    Why you want 2gb?

I understand the need for 1 gb (i got one myself), but 2gb is overkill. No game has that much textures, not even fanmods for oblivion.

Plus the more memory the worse to oc.

I suspected in that dailytech pic when I first saw it that that was another heatpipe, but wasn't sure.

What I want to know though, is will the "lowest" version of the 4890 (non-overclocked, cheapest ones), still have the same clock potential as the pre-overclocked ones? I know that this is usually never the case, but after reading a lot of tech sites news articles, this is what I am beginning to fear. (Though, I could be completely wrong.)

Can't max out GTA4 with 1GB, and other games might come along that need the ram too.

Can this be crossfired with my 4870x2 or should I just get a 4870 1gb?

Agreed, no market demand for much more than whats out there especially economically right now. Seems more like this is a counter to 280 to 285. On the upside though its creating some awesome deals for the 4870 1GB which is pretty much on par with this things performance.

You can now actually max out GTA IV. Its not as memory dependent as people may think, vanilla GTA IV release from Rockstar was just extremely rushed POS for the Christmas season. Patch 1.0.3.0 improved performance alot, also if using the -norestrict command in lauch shortcut you can max out all the draw distance/detail distances regardless or ram size and still play it confortably. I can max stuff out with my 8800 Ultra to high texture quality and view distance/detail distance set to 100 and still play with with smooth fps (25 minimum) at 1680x1050.

Anyways, sorry for sidetracking the thread just wanted to inform people.
