Forget that, does anyone have the proper drivers for them yet? I concur with perkam on this. We don't want to jump to conclusions if we aren't see the proper drivers for them yet.

Being retail cards, I think they must have drivers inside the box.

is it possible they bundled 9.4 with the card, but they rushed the drivers for just this card, and will cover older cards in the official 9.4 release?

i am guessing this requires 8pin + 6pin because at the back it shows 8 + 6 solder points at the top

i will wait for real reviews to come out this should be better then gtx285!

It has the solder points for non-reference cards

Reference ones are still 2 x 6 iirc

That 8pin plug is not soldered onto the board. Pads are empty.
You were not supposed to see this.

is it possible to splice the wires to get the same effect of 8pin? and i know someones gonna tell me thats stupid cause the wires may be stressed with too much heat, but your talking to someone who connected a 226W peltier via molex connector and never had a problem.

well you could solder wires to the board then plug the ends into the pins 7 and 8 on the PCI 8-pin connector... thats how I would do it if I couldnt get an 8-pin female port.

I don't get the point of the 8-pin connector..

The extra 2 pins are just two extra grounds that are actually short-circuited with the original ground pins, in the cable itself. At least that's how they do it in my Corsair.

Yeah, it doesn't really make sense from a transport perspective. The only reasonable explanation I've heard is that the contacts may get too hot carrying all that current so they need to distribute the load a bit so they don't break down.

heat is the real issue from my understanding, which is based on hobbies and a highschool electronics class. the wires have limits due to the plastic shielding that will melt when too hot, however the wires inside the card can probably handle a much higher heat load and is not nearly limited. but i dont know exactly what happens to wires that have too much current applied, i dont know how quickly before the copper is damaged.

I am going to reserve my judgement on the numbers until the cards are tested with CCC 9.4.

Only boards you will see with 8pin+ 6pin are non-reference.

iandh, any idea if your current 4870 sinks will fit the 4890? I'm almost ceartain that the memory sink will, but I am unsure about the VRM sinks.
