I've ran several combinations of even numbered multipliers and the chip really doesn't seem to like it without a voltage bump.
I do not think anyone knows what the deal is exactly with even multipliers, but it is very true that the chips do not like them at all...most anyway...

I would love if somebody could infact answer this.

    Bios 1204

Today I flashed my R2E to bios 1204. Currently using an i965.

When I attempt to use the (current) Turbo V tool to change the multiplier from 31 to 32, the computer locks and reboots.

On post, I get a CPU to bus ratio error (I have never seen this error on this board before today) and upon entering the bios menu I discover the multiplier is set to 63! I have replicated this error three times by using the Turbo V tool.

    Cheers

Probably not a good idea to use the TurboV software then I personally never overclock out of Wind00ze.

Once I put together my new system this weekend I flashed Bios 1204.
Now I am actually wondering which of the bios settings controls the Turbo Mode Function which I would like to turn of for oc'ing....

Another thing I noticed now that I am running the system at 19*200 @1.3V 1600MHz DDRAM, 3400MHz QPI/DRAM, is that I sometimes see the CPU temperature jump up by 8-10°C and than drop back. e.g. this always happens when opening the games folder in the start menu for some reason... I wonder if the cpu switches to turbo mode then...
    Any idea what this is?

    The rest of the system:
    3* GTX 285
    6GB 1600MHz Coarsair dominator
    2*750 WD Cavier Black
    1200W Be quiet psu

The system is completely water cooled.

am I the only one with this issue?

    Cold boot wasn't a problem with 1104....

I originally thought COLD BOOT issue was just with the Corsair Dominator memory. It almost sounded to me like all of them have Dominator memory. But since you have different memory and still the same issue, so I guess it's universal.

I also get lockups when using TurboV, I recently installed version 1.00.25 to fiddle in Vista & randomly when I change vCore or vQPI it freezes, not very reliable at all.

Definately BIOS overclocking is much more robust & feature full, but in this type of board where this tool was heavily advertised as a full working feature it's sad to see it's poor results. Even more so after seeing that Evga Eleet works very well.

As an opinion, I'm really pissed to have to reboot & load Windows every time I want to change a voltage or mem speed & I know that that's how it works but it seems that procedure is getting a little outdated, I would definately love to have the same options in Windows for immediate testing. I know hardcore overclockers would like to always stay in BIOS, but if Windows overclocking would work as it does in BIOS why not change? I think slowly but surely we will see full overclocking options introduced in Windows tools

ugh, 1204 has some wacky usb issues.
first i thought it was just the mouse and keyboard.. but after they pop'd in and out usb just stopped working. nothing i put in was seen (flash stick, HD, iphone, etc..)
kinda sucks - settings that i needed HT off to work in 1104 worked in 1204 (i'm guessing it is some over volt/under volt issue between them).
But in the end i'd rather have usb than HT
yeah, i tried HiSpeed vs FullSpeed. I didn't try the handoff thingy tho.. but i wasted a good few hours trying different settings/usb stuff..

what chip handles the usb stuff? overheating? it seems to freak out faster when the cores are at full load.

    Are you overclocking?

Well, the thing is that you may have done something while OCing that just happens to come to light in 1204 but is a general instability in your system. Can you back down to stock settings by reseting all of the BIOS settings to defaults and then run your system. If you are still experiencing the same thing let me know and we can take it from there.

I found another pesky little bug in 1204. When resuming from S3 sleep my vcore is set ~0.015 lower than it previously was (which in turn causes instability). This only happens when overclocking as far as I can tell. CPU is question is i7-965. Tried with 143 x 28 and 145 x 29 multipliers. After reverting to 1104 the problem disappears.

All settings have been applied manually direct through the BIOS.

That would indeed be more convenient. It's not going to happen unless Intel makes it possible as well though. Some changes currently require a power off for hardware recalibrating as well.

Well, a bunch of posts are missing since last week when the forum first came back online...I guess the second outrage really did it some damage.

Edit: What I mean to say was "Outtage," not "Outrage." Funny me!

Have you tried using lower multiplier (16-18) yet?
