Yeah, I thought about this as well. However, this chip has been pretty good in terms of its cache and IMC so far so I am inclined to say that it is not the chip. I also posted some time ago that my IOH voltage is stuck and I determined that it basically stays at 1.21V until you bump the IOH over 1.35V. Only then does it actually read 1.31V which still has a hefty 0.04V droop from the set voltage. Maybe some circuitry issues on my particular board?
Fan controllers.
I have a Logitech Wave USB keyboard and I have no problems since I moved to 1204. I have all defaults set for USB support, including enabled Legacy USB. Maybe you should flash back to an older BIOS then reset all the settings to defaults, reboot, then flash to 1204, reboot, set all defaults, then set up your Oc settings and go from there...

@Dejanh: Does Asus Fan Xpert work with the Aus Rampage II?
Is there any software that lets you contorll the fans that are connected to the Asus Rampage II?
im got my I7 920 up too 4.1ghz. but at 1.50v stable. I am going to start working on getting the V down any hints? or is 1.5 ok with these cpu/mobo's?

According to this reference-list the I7 920 can take 1.55V !
Me personally concieve this value a bit high ... but I think the main prob will be to cool this down in 24/7 use.

Can you tell me where you got the software from (Asus Fan Xpert)?
and another issue:
I am using Windows 7 beta with my rig. Unfortunately, I get a lot of error messages when installing the software for the sound card. Does anyone know a workaround for being able to get the sound console and everything work properly?
Thanks in advance![]()

There is a version of Asus AI Suite on your CD that came with the motherboard. Just get it from there. Otherwise, you can download it from the Download section on http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
I do not recomment using Windows 7 as the main OS. There are still a number of compatibility issues with that system.
By the way, can you go and drop a note (reply) in my competition thread over here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=220984? I would really appreciate it![]()

I am also using Win 7 for my new rig. In order to get the ASUS utilities to load I had to use compatability mode (compatable to Vista). That worked. I am also now using the NVIDIA 8171 driver for Win 7 and it loaded and runs fine. There have been no graphics issues at all.
My only issue so far is mt Temps. With a Zalman 9900 and only OCing to 3.3 Ghza I am getting temps at or near 50 C on all cores. I have reset the cooler and in fact I have a new one comming in tomorrow just to see if perhaps there is an issue with this one. I know liquid cooling would be somewhat better but 50 C is no better than a stock cooler.
Main Rig;
Asus Rampage II Ex, i7 920DO @ 3.64, 12 Gb Corsair Dominator DDRIII, Corsair H-70, Corsair 1 KW PSU, 2 ea EVGA 580's in SLI driving 3 Samsung 245t's at 5760 X 1200 surround, Boot drive Corsair Vertex II SSD, Programs 2 V- Raptors in RAID 0 and a WD 1 Tb RE3 for files and client data. Sound, ASUS Xonar D2X, Normal optical drives Etc. Win 7 Ult.

Thanks but yes, I removed the shroud. I have a second 9900 comming in today just in case the sink is not flat enough or the heatpipes leak. If that does not work I am considering laping my 920 and/or going liquid cool. I do not intend to run 24/7 much more than 3.6 Ghz so I am hoping a good air cooler will do it but 50 C is just too high with almost no load.

Did you consider that you may just have a hot chip? The first i7 940 that I got would run at 95C on air at 3.6GHz when loaded on all 4 cores and 8 threads. I got rid of that chip since but it was definitely the chip. No amount of different cooling or whatever would reduce its temps really. The next chip I got was peaking out at 70C under the same cooling. Maybe the core to IHS solder was no good on the first chip, not sure...

I just want to encourage everyone here to go take a look at my competion thread againYou can find it here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=220984
I need your replies, as many as possible. Just come in, say hi, ask a question, any question. If you want help from me, ask it there![]()

Just wondering do you have any info for the reason of this? I noticed the same on my 965XE. For instance 138 x 30 wouldn't go much of anywhere at 1.42vcore. Yet, 135 x 31 would run fine at the same voltage.
I've ran several combinations of even numbered multipliers and the chip really doesn't seem to like it without a voltage bump.
