Just put my new Core i7 940 CPU under LN2 for the first time, after about 5L of LN2 and 30 minutes later I reached a nice 4.6GHz on a 210 Bclk
Temperature was -85c on the IHS and CPU Core voltage was measured at 1.63v
I believe this chip has a lot more to show
This weekend will be a blast as i use the i7 965 XE for pure memory MHz and the i7 940 for CPU MHZ over 5GHZ!!!!

Core voltage above 1.600v resulted in very unstable benchmarks.
not really as much voltage as i would have liked!
With liquid nitrogen cooling I was able to cool the chip down to about -175c during load.
cold bug boot was about -140c
and here are the frosty Core i7 pictures:

I am too. All the good stuff is sold out. I have been looking at the Kingston HyperX 3x2 GB DDR3 2000 cas 8. They are Elpida chips and only $245.99 at the egg. Just wish they would get them in stock. I had to settle for the 3x1 GB verions at cas 9. Don't know if they are Elpida chips though. Will find out tomorrow.
Nice results! Are you using setfsb or just booting at those speeds from bios?
The $245.99 was a price misquote that sold out instantly (I was luckily able to get one of these kits). That is actually the price for a 3x1GB kit. I think you will be waiting a long time for Newegg to put them up at that price again. Also the Cas 9 2000Mhz from Kingston are Samsung HCF0 chips
They still show it to be that price and I just purchased the 3x1GB kit for $119.99 last Friday. Who knows, I can't call it. I heard the 3x1GB were Samsungs but wasn't for sure.
That kit you link to is HCf0 also... HCF0 based kits are much cheaper. If you can bin a good pair they are actually comparable to the elpidas with cas 8 and cas9 clocking (but elpidas win with cas7)
The Kingston elpida kits are much more expensive and its $245.99 for 3x1GB and $529 iirc for the 3x2GB kit (at launch maybe slightly less expensive now). The sheer limited availability of these chips right now ensures high prices. Elpida cant get enough of the "good" hyper IC's out to even meet demand.
Thank you TheKarmakazi,
Yes I have been working in the bios for overclocking and booting into windows, currently I am only posting stable clocks that pass WPrime 1024M.
I will use SetFSB at a later time if needed
I guess im just old skewl and love overclocking in the bios too much
My friends say I spend more time in bios than any Operating System![]()
