Can't you down the previous version ? advantage of this tool is that it overwrites the bootblock too.

    Otherwise make a bootable dvd

it worked i deleted some files and it worked.
It got me worried at a point that i rebooted and it got to the loading screen and then rebooted but now its working.
I stil need to test the OC but sow far sow good
    thanks

Well I got her up to 550fsb like I wanted and I think I'm done for a while. Although some may think my voltages for the board are high, these are the voltages it needs to run at the speeds I have, I have tested countless times to see if I can lower the NB V or the FSB VTT. If anyone else feels like they need higher volatges then others maybe you can benefit from my template. I have found the higher you go on the NB V the lower the GTL has to be, with the CPU GTL it's all over the place, depending on the speed of the cpu and fsb. I would push even higher FSB but my Dominators Ram can't go past 1022 so I won't even bother. I run water and my cpu idles around 29-30 C, load 49-55 C. My MB never exceedes 35 C and stays around 31-32 idle.

    Hello Leeghoofd, hello all!

I'm just getting back into this thread and getting my system set-up again. I sold my Original P5Q-Deluxe last Sept and dabbled around with an ASUS P5Q-EM/E5200 combo but sadly it wasn't that easy to overclock so I decided to pick up a used ASUS P5Q-E and try to finally get some great results on the LGA775 platform! I've now got a retail Wolfdale E8400 and a much better idea of how the Intel® P45 Express Chipset works so hopefully over the next week or two I can improve my settings and get a great 24/7 overclock going on!

The screenies above are where I am at, very nice and stable and a great system to use daily. I did hope to have a bigger CPU, FSB and NBCC overclock by now but I got carried away with playing with my DDR2, I never realised it could run so fast, I also didn't realise that the Intel® P45 has such good support for fast memory!

As I hope you can see the voltages are all nice and low atm and the system is nice and stable, I can set the PL(tRD) as low as 6 but it's not stable yet . . . but with more vNB I'm sure it would be . . . anyway as Leeghoofd has stated again and again its better to get the big stuff sorted then come back and tweak, so thats what I intend to do.

I am thinking of trying for either 450MHz-FSB next or perhaps jump straight to 500MHz with the CPU on an 8x multi and try the memory on a different strap but keeping it at around 600MHz (DDR2-1200) for the moment.

I am interested what you guys think will be the *key* voltage differences between 9x400 (as above) and 8x500?

Very clean slick looking build there Big Wayne

You just prolly need to up FSB term to 1.2ish level and NB volts too to keep the CPU and mobo stable... I would skip 450FSB and go straight to 500FSB mate, with 1200mhz ram clocks it's fast (maybe loosen TRFC to 45 or such) and probably strap 333... try to get the lowest PL stable 8-9 and enjoy your rig... Hope your cpu can do 4Ghz sub 1.25ish (shouldn't pose much of a problem)

Keep us posted and take ya time !!

hi. i after help on this forum i am now at 4.0 ghz 10hrs prime stable finally. the thing i would like to know is if people here think that my volts are safe for 24/7 use.

vnb - 1.30 ( which is actively cooled by 2x 40mm scythe mini fans.)
    fsb term- 1.28
vcore - 1.2750 (temps remain at about 63 deg under load)
    cpu pll- 1.54
    sb - 1.20

the SB voltage was final setting that gave me stability. it was NOT stable at 1.10volts. no matter what i did. it was the last thing i changed and it worked. i even lowered it again to test my theory and at 1.10 volts it did indeed fail after about 2 hrs or so. went back to 1.20v and was stable. i see that everyone here is running 1.10 for the sb. admittedly i have been running 1.20 sb since i first started overclocking. i took it from someones template back in the beginning and it has stayed ever since.i only saw that everyone here was running 1.10 volts and i thought i should lower it as many said it made no dofference. but in my case it CERTAINLY DID.

is 12.0 volts for the southbridge a safe voltage for 24/7 use?
and is it possible that this voltage of 1.20 has been BURNED IN and that anything lower is now not stable?

if someone experienced could please review my volts above and let me know if these volts are safe for 24/7 use i would be very grateful.

    thanks

Your volts look fine as long as nothing is overheating, of which with decent cooling it shouldn't be running too hot.

I ran 1.20 on the SB for awhile and later changed it to Auto. Never even gave it a second thought since then.

the only thing that changed is the ram frequency, timings stayed the same, i know i should be thinking about tightening up those timings but what would be the right values for corsair dominator at this obviously underclocked freq?

i know keeping freq low if all 4 slots r occupied is good for the memory controllers lifespan but what r the tradeoffs , there must be some, i gave the memory controller more breathing space by lowering the frequency but what will happen if i tighten timings?

im on vista ultimate 64, first i used the default values in 3dmark06 (only 6 tests;1280x1024;AA -none; optimal texture filtering) and got 19426 3dmarks, then i checked all 19 tests, set the resolution to highest possible 1920x1080, Antialiasing 8X, Anisotropic 16 X and got 15788 marks

i think i could go even higher if i set my dram frequency back to 1066, its at 851 now

    hard locks using ethernet 1

hi, been following this thread off and on for a while now.

    i have a problem, i have the latest 1805 bios with a q6600 oc'd to 3.4ghz 12+ hr prime stable on all 4 cores.

my problem is my system is hard locking when transfering many files at a time over my network using the bottom lan port (ethernet 1 or the pci-e bus port)

if i enable th top one in the bios and use it it doesn't lock up. i've updated the lan drivers using the latest drivers from asus's site. i'm currently on vista, using sp2 RC.

could i possibly need to adjust some voltages in the bios?

my fsb is only at 425, so i'm not driving it all that hard. using the 266 ram divider to achieve 1020. i would post up my entire config but i'm doing my file transfers at the moment. please tell me if you need more info.

i've been reading back and forth for any setting that may help me get my system running at around 500fsb or more... planning to run around 8.5x533 at least to get the most out of my mems... problem is, i am completely rock stable at 470x9 4.2ghz with mems running at ddr1129 5-5-5-15 5:6 divider... i've tried the 803,1406,1702,1805 modded bioses from ket and none of them seemed to help me get even 8x500 stable =(

tried to play around cpu gtls and nb gtls and i still cant get 8x533 to run around 1hr+ of orthos/prime without getting any core 0 or core 1 errors

help! =( i know my e8400 and this p5q-d can do more than 470x9, i really know i can go beyond 500fsb... this is my 2nd intel system coming from e5200 and 5 amd systems...

btw, the 1.26vcore in the sig is 450x9 stable to 4ghz... before, i was able to make 8x500 stable with 1.28 vcore but now it's not stable anymore even if i bump the voltages... =(

tried nb gtls settings from .590-760 with 1.3vnb, tried also using the formula as explained in the thread about gtls, and all i got are hangups, bsods, and restarts... =(

More NB (1.26) and FSB term voltage (1.26) Coy82... CPU PLL almost does nothing for 500FSB region : 1.52 is more than sufficient

Also set Clock twister to AUTO, and performance level to AUTO and then try 8 x 500FSB/1000mhz
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

hey jdmr, whats your vnb set to with the .625 nb gtl? thanks! =)

    @leghoofd

is there a significant bandwidth loss between pl 10 and 13? pl 13 is what the board usually sets when i set it to auto using the 333 strap...

i know and seen a lot of e8400 e0s doing around 4.2-4.5 with vcores below 1.4 and without any gtl tweaks. 4ghz is good enough but if i can get my baby to run more than 4ghz without too much gtls and voltages, i'd go for it.

the thing is i often get core 0 or 1 errors when i try some settings, i always ruled out my mems as my friend, which is the 1st owner of the dominators, was able to run it to 1200+ stable, and as for me i tested it to run ddr1180+ @ 2.1vdimm.

i'll try your suggestions, i always set the pl to 10 coz i think there's some significant bandwidth loos when you set it around 12-13..

i also got it to be stable at 510x8 before with some gtl tweaking, which i think was set to 1.3vtt .620 for the 2 cpu gtls and 1.46vnb with gtl set to i think .590 or .520, too bad for me i forgot to take note of the settings... it was like a suicide run for the nb already as the temps gets around 44 idle 46 load, which is too hot for me for a p45 chip. unless it is like one of those nvidia nb chips that the dfi lp ut expert has which a 50c load temp is somehow tolerable... i don't want to break my board since it came from taiwan direct from a friend and rma is definitely not an option here in the phils since the shipping cost is too much...

if any of your suggestions don't work, i'll let my friend borrow my e8400 for around 2 days to test it using his p5q vanilla board, and if the chip gets to more than 500fsb without so much gtl tweaks (which is making my head heavy with thinking) then it would definitely prove that it is my board that's acting up on me =(

but if in case the chip doesnt do 500fsb+ with my friend's p5q, then it's the chip that i got who is baaaaddd, really bad since i sold my cm690 for me to be able to get it from the seller since it was a rush sale and i havent got any cash on hand that time =(

i've been eyeing a dfi ut p45 t2rs if in case our tests prove that it is my board that's acting up... hope i won't regret getting it as a replacement for the p5q-d just in case..

thanks! other inputs are still welcome!

    cheers!

Good tip : First you tweak CPU , then the ram. If you do both at the same time you will have a much harder time stabilising it. So put more AUTO instead of forcing PL and co from the start... I never needed tweaking at 500FSB region, from 550 on it get's way harder to stabilise things... and really 1.46NB voltage is insane, suicide or not... I told this zillion times before, more volts is not always better lads !

If you want bandwith then you need to get off the 1:1 Divider ( as it requires a higher PL then with a divider ) and your rams need to go 1200mhz way, 500/1200 is far easier to stabilise then 500/1000, funny but it's true
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

true... very very true as i experienced on my e5200 + p5q-d + corsair mobos...

i just used the 1:1 setting just to avoid using other settings and to avoid clocking my mems way too high with other dividers

as of now im on 470x9 4.2ghz ddr1130 5:6 333 strap rock stable and the bandwidth is crazy! lol!

I'm having great luck with 1702. Seemed to reduce the vCore needed. Currently running an E8400 at 4.25GHz 1.208v after vDrop according to CPU-Z.

ymaa, im currently testing 500x8.5 1.328 vcore (load in cpu-z) LLC enabled, seems fine with the 1805 bios but i'd still flash later on back to 1702 since that one gave some good stability before..

vcore is quite high but i just set it to 1.337-ish in the bios to rule out instablity due to lack of vcore...

please do post your settings so i can check out the ones that you have that may works for me =) thanks in advance and thanks a lot =)
