I'm planning on picking up a tube of this stuff soon for my new build. After reading the thread, I just wanted to confirm that on an i7 the agreed best application method is a pea size drop? Also I read mixed ideas about giving the HSF a small twist in each direction, what do you all think about the twisting?

    Thanks

I always give the HSF a twist after installation. I have tried with & without the twist. It helps spread out the tim.

    Pressure testing

I thought I would post some raw image results from overclock.net along with thermals. Nice clean prints. The 8A was a before a "washer mod" and 8B was after the "washer mod"

The increase in performance matches nicely with the increased contact and pressure (actually is as good as a couple of the better ones I have on file)

It's a nice illustration which you people already know and reinforces probably the most recommended forum troubleshooting solution to cpu thermal problems - Lap and tighten/balance the sink.

Thanks tkl.hui for the extra effort, much appreciated

    Mr. tastee;
Free stuff is always nice but there are those things in life you buy that are just excellent items and worth what you pay for them. Yours is one.
It's a no BS just plain works as designed item..
Now I have an order coming in from Petra's this week and you can see what heads the list.

    Well put Dave.

I've had good results with the Diamond 7 (so good that I shipped some of the free Diamond 7 that tastymannatees gave us to test to our friend in Belgium). Next time I need some TIM I'll be buying some more Diamond 7.

Just shows what we already know.
I can understand, has to be tough breaking into this market where every 16 year older thinks AS5 is the ONLY thing to use..
Over all my machines plus the ones I've built for people your product averages 4C better.
4C when your tossing together a high end Nehalem that to get just down to the low 60's on air is tough is where your product shines.
Also nice when your doing a cheapo P4 netburst in some midtower thats marginal for flow.
That 4C just adds that little "edge"..
    Many Thanks for making this.

I ordered a tube of this cool laboratory liquid pro just to try because I have went to D7 on everything I run now. That liquid pro stuff seems like it could work good but God is it a pain in the butt. I feel tim should be put on and be done with it. This liquid tim you have to do an hr worth of work to get ready to apply it. I like the way it looks but I am not impressed with the results at all.
I will stay with my D7! It works better then anything else I have ever used.

From my experience, no real burn in time. The more pressure the better. This is good stuff.

I am not going to use ic diamond again, it left quite ugly pits in both the cpu and heatsink (both lapped). So after taking it off I had to lap them both again, could be because copper is quite soft and diamonds are ... well ... hard as diamonds. I don't understand the 44 tim round up, metalpad should, if applied correctly, perform on par with liquid pro. I just put in on my gpu, will report back with temps

Really none.. a slight decrease in temps after a few hours but basically what you see is what you get..
I noticed a almost standard 4c drop over AS5 across the board..I do a thin line vertically and another horizontally and then move HS back and forth gently as if seating a brick into cement. Gives me a nice spread on the TIM.

Surprised to hear this. I used this on one lapped cpu and saw no effect on the cpu itself.
    Sorry this happenned to you.
Possibly something left on the cpu other than the TIM?

I don't think it had anything to do with residu, they where absolutely clean when I applied. I had pits in a circle at the end of the spread of the tim, quite ugly. This happened as well on my gpu. Could be I had a bad batch or something like that with the diamond powder not fine enough or sticking together maybe?

Ok, very sorry to hear this but please understand this is the first time we've heard this after literally thousands of uses so I thought there might be something else that contributed to the problem.

Yes, I have not red anything like what happened to me, so I guess it is a specific problem related to me. Could also be because I polish after lapping and this makes the surface too soft for ic diamond? What is the shelflife of the product because i remember pushing like a madman to get some out, could it have dried out?

Possibly on the polishing.. The stuff is pretty hard to get out so I doubt it was na age issue.
My one suggestion would be for bigger "ears" on the tube to get a better grip especially for us folks with big hands.
I can palm a basketball and use both hands to get it out and control the location of where the tim goes..
