i am asking is this temperatures normal? or if it is not normal this is only a bios wrong reading?

also one other question to all experienced core i7 x58 plat users. as i bought my system yesterday i am very noob at x58 and core i7 situation. now i know we have to keep memory voltage in +0.5 of vtt voltage (this is true isnt it?) but in msi x58 plat vtt = qpi or which one is the vtt voltage in this board?

Now I'm gonna tweak some voltages to reach 4.1 maybe 4.2GHz.

It took me +0.220 QPI for that print and will be hard to reach something more but I'll go for it

Where did you get this 3.1b1 bios? I just bought one of these openbox from the EGG(full retail package) for 150.00 and am testing it now. Also I have 965 but it wont let me run my clock multi over 24??

With multi 19x and more QPI voltage I manage to lower my vcore a lot:



But 4GHz on that board seems impossible to me (2h+ Prime stable).

For anyone interested I just cross flashed from BIOS v1.1 to v3.1 and everything is working great. I followed the steps listed earlier. BIOS v3.1 has many more controls vs the 1.1, it makes me wonder if the the original non-sli Platinum board is getting hung out to dry by MSI. Anyone heard anything new about UEFI for the MSI x58 boards?

I'm considering ordering an MSI platinum, but Vista S3 Sleep mode is an absolute requirement. Would somebody try putting
their mobo in sleep mode and see if it resumes properly? Be sure to test at a high BCLK, at least 195 or whatever your system will do.
Many mobos will do SM at around 170 BCLK, but not at full speed. Thanks!

Anyone knows what physically has changed from the Platitum to the Platinum SLI other than just adding the acronym "SLI" to it? I have the SLI version and I can't differentiate between the two...they look exactly identical in every phase and shape of form. What has changed?

I really think this was a marketing thing. I flashed my board (non-SLI one) with a bios from the SLI version and really there were no changes at all. Could run the same settings I used before. Shame I don't have two nVida cards to test it, but S3rv3r did flashed (see page 2) and sucessfully used two 295 boards with no problems.

Talking about beta bios, I send an email to the MSI support, and they sent me the link for their FTP area. I'd like to share with you and remember, test it for your own risk:

I really have no idea what is the change log from one to another, but I after flashing my board several times I found that the first number after the dot "." ir related to the board version. So:

A7522IMS.1xx are related to the MSI X58 Platinum (non SLI) like mine
A7522IMS.3xx are related to the MSI X58 Platinum SLI
A7522IMS.7xx are related to the MSI X58 Pro

Yes, the Pro one. I discover that because on the first boot after I flashed the board, the MSI bios logo is showing "MSI Pro" and inside the bios had very few options compared to the other ones.

I'm also pretty much convinced the .4xx versions are for the MSI X58 Eclipse board.

As I said before, I could flash my board with both .1xx and .3xx versions and had no problems at all. But since I'm not using SLI I'm currently using the A7522IMS.134. I couldn't see any difference from the others versions nor new options on it an if they are testing so many bioses why we they don't release any new ones on their official website?

Anyway, I'll keep testing it.

Didn't reply right away, but it seemed to work fine afterward even without the right click and "Save as..." I'm on 322 now. I wonder how often MSI updates their BIOS for new mobos like these...not as often as Asus does, I can tell. Oh, you think we can cross-flash the Platinum with the Eclipse?

just checked the site no knew ones up. Im getting tempted to try that Ami windows flasher I havent used it years might break. I dont have nvidia card so Im out on testing, so it looks like we can flash anything with this board lol. Nice info Vipor.

Great let us know Im anxiously waiting, Ill post some better ram timings and benches next week when I get better cooling, Im going to fool with latest beta bios and see what happens. some 24hr stability runs also. I have a batch 3837A727.

screwtech02 A Hardware reviewer site on the net (I forgot wich one it was I was reading theres so many) said he achieved better results with 12gb on the msi board than any of the other ocing x58 boards.

Yeah but... sorry to disapoint you screwtech02, but hum.. the black memory slots sucks for overclocking. On the blue ones (on triple channel, using 3x1GB) I can reach 1640 @ 1.55v but with 4 sticks (dual channel) it requires much more vdimm and I cannot oc much, so if I were you I would stick to 6GB, specially because I really think more than that is completelly unecessary (unless you use som special program that will actually use all that RAM).

This past two weeks has been hell here in São Paulo where I live.. temps around ~35ºC during the day and about ~30ºC at night. Impossible to try higher clocks than 3.9. I even disabled the HT to save some vcore. But what's most strange is that the North Briedge temp is always around 58~60ºC even with the 2x40mm fans I glued on top of the big copper heatpipe (the one over the NB).

I'm really planning to replace all the thermal paste from below the heatpipes and replace it with Artic Silver or some other. Useless to say that with that high temp on the NB I wont reach higher clocks.

I plan on gutting the heatpipe crap, and watercooling the Northbridge/mosfet area, and activley/passive cool the southbridge.... Along with watercooling the proc, i should be ok with 12gb..... Or at least i'll see....

I just bought this board and it is very nice , but the bios is a bit quirky. Sometimes when you add small amounts of voltage, unless you completely shut down and restart, the voltage won't set right , but that's nothing a few bios updates cannot fix. All and all for 219.00 it cannot be beat and it will do well over 4.0ghz. MSI seems to have done it right this time.

how your board working for you and wanted to tell you to use the 19x multipler this board likes it better and you can hit 3.9 ghz by setting you QPI to 1.70v

Nice, i'm still waitin to hear back from EK about the waterblocks, that, and i need a proc/mem also.... Gonna wait till later this summer to build it, hopefully the DO procs will drop in price, along with the DDR3... Got me a rockefish case to mod too, so my build is quite a bit far off....
