What's even more amazing is that this build was extremely bottlenecked.
At the end of the video it's mentioned that they reached 1gb/s with only 9 SSD in one of the scenarios, leaving clear that there is room for improvement shall we get more bandwidth for it one of these days.
They even needed to use three different controllers because not even two of them could handle the throughput of the disks...

Any boards and controllers for PCI-E 2.0 x16 slots? I think that would go a good ways towards relieving those bottlenecks. 8GB/s in one slot in that scenario. That'd be some nice bandwidth--copy a full DVD in <1 second.

No, it couldn't. Way too slow access time.

Could it have been improved by using windows 7's SSD file systems?

Under Vista Ultimate x64 I get 500mb/s out of four OCZ Solid Series SSDs. That speed is limited by my ARC-1210 at that. Is the scaling with SSDs not at all close to being linear?

    \

I get this score without any partition alignment or OS optimizations (which creates the sawtooth pattern), but performance is still great. With 24 SSDs, I'd expect to be atleast above 3000mb/s(125mb/s+ per drive). Then again, just like my setup their controller may be the limiting factor.

When I ran MFT on my Raid and PCMark05 I was hitting something like 524k for the HDD score. Trying to remember what was showing up for HDTach and others. It was close to 2gb/s.

Anyone else have any info on what MFT did for there Raids ?

Ooooooh... the decade of 2010 will be the decade of SSD's growing from drives that can hardly beat the Velociraptor or the 15000rpm cheetah, to drives that are nearly as fast as system memory. Damn, that's going to be a difference in how we compute!

do you mean system memory we have now, cause as HDDs are getting faster, RAM is getting faster too. for one to replace the other, it would probably be a very low budget computer where either the HDD or RAM is missing and they take the sacrifice of power for some savings

You know what i mean!! SSD's would probably increase so much in speed during next decade that it is faster than today's memory! Magnetic HD's only climb in speed at a slow, predictable rate.

I was so amazed at how quickly flash memory increased in capacity during the last few years. Almost nobody expected this to happen. We were spending $100 on 256MB of flash memory only 5 years ago, and now 256MB is not even worth $1 or deserving of a spot on the retail shelf. 8 GB (32 times the capacity of 256MB) is now the price of a dinner at TGIF, and probably also 10-20 times faster...

Pretty sure the dude with the $16k computer would kill himself if he saw this.

Roger that!! SSD's are cool, but I wouldn't take the suicidal plunge like this just yet..
