hi. thanks to vrbublo for the help with settings and the link to the gtl settings. i am now stable at 4.0 ghz. it was indeed the cpu gtl ref which helped but i also had to increase the nb volts to 1.32v. i will try to bring this down to 1.30 by playing with the nb gtl ref. volts. i know that 1.28v on nb is unstable.

will continue to tweak a little to see if i can decrease any volts, but thanks to all on this thread for tonnes of valuable info.

my question now is , is 1.32v for the nb safe for 24/7 use? i have 2x 40mm scythe mini kaze fans tied side by side to the nb heat spreaders and i have good airflow (7x noctua npf-12 fans) as case fans but even so, is this a safe voltage for 24/7 use?

And don't put in so high FSB Tern and PLL voltages. Learn how your own CPU's responds to volts.... you tell the story yourself : 1.28 : 1 hour, 1.3 1 minutes : so lower the value then instead of increasing... think logic !

And if you try tweaking the GTL values (only because it's not stable in Blend ) just trying 0.630 and 0.635 is far from enough... with a quad take your time. A Wolfdale almost doesn't need any NB/CPUGTL tweaking till 550FSB stability (unless the CPU is totally overfed with volts)

In your case I would drop down to 400FSB and learn how to setup the CPU. Get it stable with the lowest values possible of FSB and PLL : testing with prime SMALL FFT !! no IBT plz. Then work ya way up to 425FSB, restest the cpu again. And so on... you guys are all aiming too high from the start and then get lost, copy templates with settings that ( in my humble opinion ) are overkill. And then finally you get frustrated and ditch the board.

P45 needs proper volt tuning, same for the 45nm CPU : MORE VOLTS ISN'T ALWAYS BETTER !!

Start off with FSB Term 1.2, PLL 1.5 and NB Volt at 1.2 at 400FSB/1000mhz ram and most ram timings to AUTO besides 5-5-5-15 TRFC 55, Static Read Disabled.

Hey LEEGHOOFD just curious if you have any suggestions on how I could lower my CPU VTT currently sitting @ 1.36V. The problem I have seen so far is that anything below that I get crashes and reboots during Orthos or OCCT testing, similar to undervolting. The specs I have listed below are for an E8500 E0. The comp is stable now with lowered volatges then what I had just a few posts before. I continue to change my NB GTL's and my CPU GTL's in search of the perfect setting, for the most part I am learning how this CPU reacts to change although I must admit I still don't fully understand why it does what it does sometimes.

you are at 4.5Ghz, if you try at 8 multi I'm pretty sure you can pull of 1.26FSB Term or such... high FSB speed and total CPU speed need higher FSB term voltages. But I see people at 4ghz with 450FSB that copy your template which is totally unnecassary to apply as much volts....

For 600FSB Tests I didn't even need 1.36FSB term at 4.2Ghz... it all depends on CPU, mobo etc... I never needed above 1.3FSB term, 1.3NB Voltage for all my dual cores and PLL voltage had zero influence on my CPU's OC's

Maybe if you Disable Static Read Control and put in TFC 55 you could lower NB voltage a bit more and almost loose zilch to nothing in ram performance

    Hi peeps

Got my pc watercooled so would like to finally OC my pc to higher speeds. Have had it OC at 4.0GHz by just changing FSB to 400 and its been stable from day one.
I have E8600 batch Q822A566 which i heard is meant to be quite a good batch.
Have tried overclocking a bit higher by just changing FSB and putting in CPU V to manual and got as high as this

I ran Intelburn and it passed but next day I booted up pc and got blue screen.
Just need some advice which setting need to be played with as there are soo many

Once i roll my BIOS back to 1403m tonight, what are recommended voltages for a q6600 going for a <4ghz bench run. VID is 1.25, so obviously i'll figure out vcore on my own, or just give it a ton of voltage cause i've yet to see it go over 65c with my 4160mhz clock. Upgrading to 1611 and 1702 was a mistake, that i'm paying for with having to afudos the thing back to 1403, since i haven't hit 4.1ghz since. And what should i disable/enable when it comes to things like static read, mem oc charger, dram read training. I always disable all the C1E, Speedstep stuff. Just a tad unsure about these aspects, as well as the voltages for vfsb, nb, & sb, cpu pll (all still stock cooled except for the watercooled CPU). Any help would be appreciated. Putting the rig into my sig right after this. It's all stock cooled but it's in a room that's about 10c. If the sig doesn't show up, it looks like this: CASE: TT Kandalf PSU: Corsair HX1000 MB: P5Q Deluxe CPU: Q6600/e8400 HDD: 2xWD 640gb raid1 3x Patriot Warp 32gb SSDs raid0 RAM: 4gb OCZ Reaper 1066 GPU: EVGA 8800gt SC H20: BIX240 XFLOW+GTZ+Petras DDC

Get of them auto voltages plz, try the above. If not stable play with the FSB term voltage eg 1.3. if not stable try lower eg 1.22. Remember more voltages isn't always better !

For a quick bench run at eg 450FSB I would give them auto voltages a go. Even though they give too much, but for some quick runs it shouldn't do any harm. Depending on the run you want to make (superpi, AM3,...) you might need to tweak the rams to get optimal performance. But you better figure that out before pushing the CPU. Try with ya wanted FSB to get the best ram performance eg 450FSB : 1080Mhz with a PL of 8-9... see which settings you need then to get max ram performance and lowest latency.

What temp problems Mikefra2008 ? insane high temps ? post a screnshot of ya problem, will tell more than a thousand words
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

For 600FSB Tests I didn't even need 1.36FSB term at 4.2Ghz... it all depends on CPU, mobo etc... I never needed above 1.3FSB term, 1.3NB Voltage for all my dual cores and PLL voltage had zero influence on my CPU's OC's

Maybe if you Disable Static Read Control and put in TFC 55 you could lower NB voltage a bit more and almost loose zilch to nothing in ram performance
Well it seems as though my original settings seem to be right on par with what I'm getting now. At 1.26-1.30 NBv I can't even boot @ 550FSB, 1.32-1.34 tells me my Express gate intallation is bad and I need to resinstall it, 1.36-1.38 I ran from .520-.645 with mixed reviews, but nothing stable, over .670 no boot. 1.40 seems to yield great success so far at a GTL of .590-.595 the latter being stable for 6 hours mem test. Next is to get into windows with stable NB and Memory and get the cpu stable at lower FSb VTT and VID. I don't know why I need such high Voltage but it seems it needs it to stay stable. Any other suggestions are more then welcome.

Flash to 1406 Oggie and up the Vcore to 1.35 and see if she get's into Vista then... later on you can still lower vcore if possible
