I'd say... the top slot is PCI-E 1x... and yes I want this board too and place a soundcard in that very slot

Friend: Do you have a spare PSU lying around?
    Me: No why?
Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?

    Exclamation Delayed Until Mid-march

I have some depressing news for some of you guys:

    ORIGINAL: EVGATech_JacobF

So it seems that there is some misinformation, and I will clarify that now.

Originally the X58 Classified was on schedule for end of February release, this is true. Unfortunately, there are a lot of things that can happen that will delay production by a week or two. With that being said, unfortunately it will likely miss by 1-2 weeks so we are now looking at the second week of March.

Also, the EVGA X58 standard board will still be in full production, please remember that the Classified board is a premium board at a higher price.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

    I just don't get it..
450$ USD for original design by shamino... it's almost like designer clothing, just this is more useful . i also will personally never use a motherboard manufacturer's waterblock, they will indefinitely suck...

I'm guessing that s the reason for delay. I was not going to purchase the board myself until I saw how the new chipset does.

I think more companies should go the DFI route where they pair up with a heatsink manufacturer like Thermalright to cool the board Imagine an EVGA X58 Classified Black Pearl Edition with Custom Bitspower waterblocks

The Thermalright TRUE series and the CoolerMaster V8 and V10 all fit on this board after the heatsink changes, no need to worry.

    Prototype design shown at CES:

    Final production design:

As you can see, the heatsink was shaved a few centimeters as there are only two rows of E's instead of three.

Some of you have probably already seen this but for the rest, to make the wait a tiny bit more bearable (plus a further confirmation of above post) here's a couple of photos of an engineering sample with revised chipset cooling:

samples will be available in March to mobo makers I'm guessing. I think this board won't be available until around May. Still its hard to decide whether to grab this board or wait. I'd be unhappy if a $450 board get outperformed by a $249 board due to chipset revision 6 weeks after purchase.

The chipset takes care of a couple of errata points, no real performance difference right now, that comes with the DO steppings. This board will be released in March, EVGA has taken user feedback to heart about making a few changes to it.

Thanks for the info Gary, I'll definitely spring for one if you guys give it the nod. I've got a couple decent i7 920's for now to tide me over till DO's are released.
