I got the MX518, G5, G7, G9 and Razer Diamondback. In my experience, from preference, comfort and functionality, out of those mentioned I love the G9

Anyway we can go back on a vote?

I voted for the Lachesis a while back and now the middle click button does not work . Just dies out of the blue, after a bit of googling it seems this is quite common. Means no grenade throwing in COD, no opening tabs in browsers. You dont know what your missing till you dont have it anymore.
So looks like i am going to look for a Logitech mouse next. G5 looks to be winning so thats top of my list so far.

I use one of the side buttons (forward or back) for throwing grenades, much more control than the middle button.

Might be looking for something more comfortable than my DA...it may be part of the cause of my hand problems...

I bought a G5 but wasn't impressed with it and ended up going back to my MX510. If something happens to my 510 I'll probably grab a 518.

I've tried out my friends razer mice and didn't really like the shape.

Guys....has anyone tried that Gigabyte GM-M8000 Ghost?

I'd say it looks EVIL - and the TweakTown review was extremely positive

If it really performs as good as it looks it's a winner isn't it?

I must say that after my fiancee spilled tea on my G9 (she has a ban for using my PC now ) I am very tempted to try it

Deathadder! I used to use the Microsoft 3.0 and then it finally broke and the deathadder gives me that microsoft comfort.

MX518 is also good. Not sure why the G5 is so popular. I hated that mouse, wasn't comfy and it lagged if I moved too fast.

I just got a Microsoft Sidewinder mouse and it rocks!

I like it more than the Logitech MX-518 that I was using previously. The Sidewinder is faster, more responsive, and has superior accuracy due to it's higher DPI (2000) and laser sensor; compared to the 1600 DPI and optical sensor of the MX-518.

A small LCD display shows you the current DPI setting, a nifty feature, because with my Logitech MX-518 I found that I was constantly pressing down the DPI increase button to make sure I was at the correct DPI setting.

The two metallic side buttons, which protrude and are placed vertically rather than horizontally, is a unique feature of this mouse. I definitely prefer this arrangement, because not only are the buttons more accessible, it's also harder to accidentally hit the wrong one than it was with the Logitech.

It also has up to 35g of extra weights in case you want a heavier mouse, and three sets of mice feet made from different materials to suit your needs.

Now for things I don't like..

The metallic scroll wheel, while being very accurate/responsive, makes a loud clicking noise when you scroll up or down. It isn't much of a big deal, but I found that compared with the scroll wheel on my Logitech, it was WAY more noticeable..

And while the Sidewinder has three side buttons, one of them is absolutely useless. I don't even know why they even bothered with a third side button, which is inconveniently placed nearly an inch in front of the two main side buttons, far out of reach for most people; unless they have a very long thumb..

Also, if you're female or have small hands, you should probably avoid this mouse. While it's more or less the same length as the MX-518, the back end has a wider profile which can make the side buttons harder to access.. My girlfriend used my computer to check her e-mail and one of the first things she noticed was that the mouse was too big for her hands..

Guys with normal or large hands should have no problem though..

All in all, it's definitely a great mouse, the best I've ever used in fact. I can't believe it's not more popular than it is, because it has some useful and unique features you don't find in other gaming mice.

Original post - I'd thought I make a new since its been a while

I've been using the Steelseries Ikari (optical) for a over a month now and I love/hate this thing. The shape and feel are excellent but there are a few issues that annoy me a little to much. For starters the cord is a freaken rope, its over built to the point of fighting back - I'm not sure the kinks will ever come out of this thing. The two thumb buttons are poorly placed - pressing either is fine on it own but toggling between the two is actually painful. It still reads movement nearly 5ft of the ground and no I'm not joking (I'm not one to pick it up though). It has a nice quick switch feature but it is set to 400/800dpi by default - has a 3sec delay between switches at 800/1600 making that nearly useless . Needs a driver to set it to 800/1600 so it isn't driver-less. Older games that don't support mouse 3 and 4 thumb buttons need a 3rd party app (x-mouse button control) because the "driver" doesn't support that! The scroll wheel will occasionally miss a click(s) - it goes round it just doesn't register . Still just two extra buttons.

The shape though is really much better (and bigger) than either the death adder or the 518. I have a considerably bigger area I can swing this thing as a result and that really makes much better use of the dpi. By contrast I can only move the death adder a small amount but it needs much higher dpi to make those smaller movements as accurate. Its a design choice and the higher dpi is kind of gimmick number there. I would still like to see a bit more than 1600 out of the Ikea though. I play at 1920x1200, and despite the great feel, I can still see the cross hair movement loose that extra fine finises when aiming down range.

Its not bad as I make it out to be though. In fact, I'll probably keep using it for quite a while but I just can't recommend it over the others. Of what I've tired the Mx518 is still the way to go; the Ikea and deathadder could trade 2nd and 3rd depending on hand size and personal preferences.

I recently broke a friend's mouse while attempting to change an LED in it, so rather than buy a new crappy mouse to replace his crappy mouse, I decided to buy myself a new gaming mouse, and pass down my Logitech MX510 to him. I played with a bunch of other mice that friends had, and I could not stand the feel of the new Sidewinders... the two thumb buttons were flaky, and the shape of the mouse just did not work for me. I tried a couple different Razer mice, including the Copperhead, and the Lachesis, and though nice, they just felt a little too "flat" for my hand. I also disliked the thumb buttons on the Lachesis because they sit right where I grip the mouse, so I was accidentally pressing them if I ever had to lift the mouse up.

I finally settled on the Logitech G9, and have been very happy with it. The interchangable grips are really nice, and I still can't decide which I like better. I REALLY love the feature where you can change the mouse wheel from a free spinning mode back to the ratcheting feel. Web browsing is MUCH better with the free spinning wheel, while games require the ratcheting wheel. Between the MX510 and the G9 I have seen a HUGE difference in how well I can aim in games. Sniping is now MUCH easier, even without adjusting the dpi. It just seems less 'jumpy' so when I move to shoot something, I don't have to correct because I overshot it.

I have also been playing with the weights in the mouse, and haven't seen any significant difference between using the max weight, and the no weights. I am thinking the whole weight thing is more of a gimmick than anything.

Why would we vote for a mouse we don't have ? If you like a particular mouse, you buy it

They are more comfy than the G9, but I found the shape of the G9 to be better for gaming (at least for me). It isn't the best mouse for 24/7 use though.

I originally voted for MX518, but right now I kinda like this G5. I don't have any of the issues some people seem to be having with it. If it's skipping or acting wierd, just clean the lens with a cotton swab, and I'm sure some people are just having issues with the terribad drivers. Under Linux, I use evdev for input in all games (I use it directly in games that support it like ezQuake or through X for ones that don't) and all movements are smooth and consistant. I don't have any issues with negative acceleration either, perhaps the people whining about it are being stupid and trying to play Quake3-engined games at something higher than 400dpi and not realizing that Quake3 has negative accel issues when you go above that ._. I'd almost certainly buy an MX510 or MX518 if I needed to get another mouse though, I still prefer them. But still, most of the people who try to badmouth G5 are usually terribads trying to blame their problems on their mouse ("LOL ITS NOT MY FAULT I CANT AIM ITS MY MOUSE LOL IF I HAD AN MX510 AGAIN ID BEAT YOU NPNP LOLOL"), or are just genuinely stupid and don't think of cleaning the lens.

Yup, love my G5. Been using a Razer Copperhead (3G or something?) recently as a replacement for my recently-killed (by me) Death Adder, mainly on Fallout 3 (still totally hooked). I didn't like the Copperhead when I first got it and had it put away for ages. Now I absolutely hate it. Feels so overall tiny, and the side buttons just don't feel right at all. I'm always accidentally hitting the right button and, even tho it doesn't have anything assigned to it, it totally throws me off. Was thinking of just getting another G5 or Death Adder, but I think I'll pick up a G9 for something different. (on sale at NCIX atm).

I like the skinny grip better too. It's easier to control the mouse compared to the fat one.

I vote G5 but I use my MX518 the most because its attached to my primary rig. G9 was built so people with small hands could use it IMO.

All on the list are good gaming mice except the Microsoft Intellimouse. Thats just my opinion and not fact of course.
