Its not a Build component quality control issue I assure you
One thing I can vouch for with D.F.I is their superior selection and integration of high quality components on their Motherboards

Bios and Build quality are the whole reason I have run D.F.I exclusively for years now on my systems and customer builds.

Its a Bios issue which is getting or has gotten very , very Old and needs immediate correction like 6 months ago!

The last time I saw issues like this was with the UT CRFX 3200 Socket 939 ULI Chipset Board

Got My Phenom II 940 BE Back from EGGY 2 DAYS AGO and just got mt Danger Den Torture Box and Custom water cooling Hooked up last night ....all I can say is that ....WOW...Water Cooling is the SHIZNIT
3.6 @ Stock Volts Idle 28c Load 38c OCCT 1 hr High Priority

What had I been missing all of these years (smacks self in Head Repeatedly)................Much better on water

here is another report on the PWM sequence.

oh, before I ferget, yeah, water cooling is the bomb....welcome to the club

I was just testing some slight downclocking and lowering of volts for hotter summertime runnings, just so I will be prepared.....daymn if the PWM didn't go nuts, on LESS VOLTS, caused all sorts of problems, and, of course it is the first place I look now whenever the board has a sheeeeeeitfit sequence....it just hit out of the blue while in windows, the PWM shyrocketed out of left field (I watched it in real time with Everest), system bluescreened, had to shutdown, unplug the PS, discharge by hitting the power on button, wait several minutes, plug it in again, boot up, and the PWM is back to normal....

something is just spiking the PWM on these boards, pure and simple, we got to find out what is doing it, once it spikes, you have to shutdown and disconnect PS, discharge, wait....

I am telling you, the AsRock 790/750sb board is looking rather good right now, and it ain't expensive (the Egg, about $120 deeeeeelivered, update: pulled the trigger so I can play some more)....they don't seem to be having any power delivery problems, I don't care if the 940 doesn't clock better, getting rid of the annoyance is paramount right now, and, for some reason, I never have had a problem running 4 sticks on an AsRock, go figure, and no problem with the present DFI.... I have two clients running with the older AsRock Dual Sata II's, both upgraded with 940 daughtercards to bring them up to almost current, one setup running a 6400+ dually @ stock and the other running a 65nm 3600+ dually clocked comfortably to 2.56 gig(9.5x266, ram on 667 divider) on stock volts, both have been absolutely problem free, both running with 4 DDR2 mem slots occupado.......

this is arguably the most frustrating unexplained problem with this board, at least for me....

    laterzzz...................

another PWM sequence while surfing the net this AM outta nowhere, PWM just skyrocketed,,,,,,frick.....

sorry, i am jumping out of the fray, gonna put this board back to a 6400+ and slam the 940 into a new 790/750SB board on Monday, this is intolerable....

it has been a good RIDE though...

why do you need a new bios? 1/16 clocks very well and is quite stable.

slapped a chipset fan on the NB (with velcro, hehe). took down my ambient case air (dropped chipset temps ~12c). occt'in 3.82 now. gotta find a more permanent solution (the adhesive got less sticky from the heat and the chipset fan fell off once. increased surface area of the velcro; hope it pans out).

I can't change my NB voltage. Using HEX codes just completely locks my computer and I have to Clear CMOS.

Be happy they removed the BIOS if it wasnt good, I'd rather wait 1 month longer to get a good BIOS than to have and check every week

Anyway, M2R is a weird board. My PWM's squeak, they always did that. And I still cant tell if it's normal or not or whether I should be worried or not Since it's been like this forever and Ive had more hardware doing that Im not too worried, but somehow it makes me worried on this board

Somehow I cant get any good clocks out of my CPU, it seems like my air wall stays the same on high-end water However I slammed 1.5V right on top of it (yes, I know BE, shut it). Ill try to re-do it and start with 1.4V or so because this doesnt seem right to me. On air I needed +0.025V for 3.6Ghz and +0.15V for 3.7Ghz, that picture doesnt look right as well Even tried upto 1.55 for 3.8, Machine Check Exception BSOD

play with cpu p-states. that might get you more stability. p-1 seems to add stability for me. lastviking on dficlub states p-2 gives more stability for him.

Ah, I checked it and I indeed got P-0~P-4

    And WTF! It works!

    First I tried 1.4Vcore as I said before with HTT of 200 and a CPU multi of 18.5 and a NB multi of 10. That BSOD'd in a minute. Went to 1.45V, BSOD'd in 5 minutes, 1.475V 5~10 minutes BSOD. I kept same settings and started to play with P-states;

    P-0; BSOD
    P-1; Restart
P-2; Core 2 error notified by OCCT
    P-3; Testing now...

WTF, it really works. However, I think this ain't right, P-states shouldnt have anything to do with stability, another thing for DFI to address?

My hopes are a lot higher now, it's only a bit of a shame that basically all previous testing became instantly useless because you cant tell what crash is caused by the P-states and what is caused by an instable CPU Also Im wondering, based on my list, whether say P-4 is the best and P-0 is the worse or that any P-state could have any effect. So say P-4 would cause an instant BSOD while P-3 seems to be the most stable.

    w00ps, a few corrections in first post;

    I only have P-0 to P-3, not P-4

P-3 result was a BSOD, so I think P-2 is the best.

Running for 20 minutes already,. had to increase Vcore 1.4875V for 3.7Ghz. Makes sense according to my results on air, namely '+0.15V'.

If this passes the 1h OCCT test Ill try and go higher with more Volts. Im quite happy the BSOD's I got with all previous testing were most likely meaning nothing because of P-state mess up. Although 1.4875Vcore for 3.7Ghz ain't super, nor bad though, I might be able to hit 4Ghz with 1.55Vcore...

With 1.4875Vcore, 1.2Vnb (if it's actually working) and 3.7Ghz CPU, 2Ghz NB my CPU temp is 36C

Im happy to say there's a bit more hope for this board again, on the otherhand Ive got to say BIOS is even worse than expected because, as I noted before, P-states shouldnt have any effect on OC'ing

    [EDIT
WTF, I set 1.4875Vcore, it ran for at least 30 minutes which Im sure about but just as I checked it BSOD'd anyway with P-state 2 Everytime I get the same Machine Check Exception error as well. I set my NB back to 1.8Ghz incase Vnb ain't being applied after all.

    EDIT 2
Ehm... Im starting to wonder if it might be caused due to my own mess, namely I didnt do a re-install of my OS's after I changed from 790FXB-M2RSH to 790FX-M2R and set my PCI-e and PCI cards into different slots than on my M2RSH. For example, I get 5 Found New Hardware pop-ups after boot...
