Very nice mod there. However I dont have the skills to do some improvisation you did there. If only there was manufacturer which did a water block for the southbridge that didn thave that problem you came across then I'd put my core and chipset under water too.

    Ahh well

Great work though, hats off to ya.

(edit) Looking at your post you mentioned that you had thought of many options to sort out your sb problems. The easiest option would be to just put a fan on the sb. That i do myself at the moment but the mosfet, northbridge and soutbridge heatsink is an all in one unit. If you just cooled the mosfets, northbridge, and cpu you would probably have to saw the southbridge off or buy some sort of after market sb heatsink.

I'm just interested in findiing out how you would have approached this problem if you had decided to take that option. If it is possible then I might renew my interest in sinking my rig under water.

dear mi..i think i am not quite clear in my explanation..will update tonight..heres what i had wrote..

"The simplest one was to get a small fan for my southbridge. The hardest one was to get someone to customise a new southbridge waterblock. I decided to go somewhere in between by choosing to mod the current EK southbridge waterblock."

i shld have wrote "I decided to go somewhere in between by choosing to get someone mod the current EK southbridge waterblock instead of doing up a totalli new southbridge waterblock."

    sorry for the misleading statement..

neither do i have the skills nor the equipment to do it..hah..onli draw up my plans and measurements..

i meant to post the whole lot of the "Setting up CPU loop" pictures last night but i still trying to sort out the order..heres some pictures to give u some ideas..i setup the cpu loop first..while waiting for my final ek blocks and my sb solution to materialise..and yes..i cut the stock hs..hah..desperate..i tried to absorb most of the liquid from the cut tubes coz i figure it wont leak out since my mb is standing vertically upright..but i soon realise that the temps are reallli sky high..its hitting 86 in the bios..and not sure if the everest software is accurate coz it recorded 105 degrees celcius..

oh regarding the aircooling solution..i was having this idea..picture from bianco..

but 780i has two ends to cool..so i was thinking of using that fan to cool my cut up sb hs..hardly pretty..but thats what a desperate man would do..lol..

another idea was using the thermalright coolers..but u gonna figure out a way to conduct the heat from the other end to ur hs..>.<

hah..i think thats why i was so motivated to mod the current ek waterblocks instead..(ar..there i go again..i meant to say get someone to mod my current ek waterblocks instead..) on a side note..i can hardly overclock my processor to my usual 4.4ghz at that time..i figure it must have been the southbridge..

with the southbridge waterblocks up..i was relieve to see my 4.4ghz up and running..and later managed a 4.6ghz..heh..still trying to go for 4.8ghz without any success..it would bsod after loading of windows vista..the green bar running..it can onli boot to bios..same situation with 5ghz..onli bootable to bios..sigh..anyone can give mi some tips..? would realli appreciate it v much..

Ahh so I guess cutting up the original heatsink would be okay and reapplying it with some paste and a fan be sufficient. Once I get the nod from you that it works I'll probably start looking at my water setup.

i prefer you not to cut the heatsink..hah..

i am nt sure if it will be sufficient for the cooling..adding the fan on the hs..coz i myself never had the chance to try that..but from wat i had gathered..southbridge doesnt realli give out so much heat..and throughout my overclocking from 3ghz to 4.6ghz..the voltage for southbridge remains the same at 1.5v..

actualli since u gonna watercool ur mb..might as well try to find ways to wc ur sb..maybe u can try bugging bitspower to do a nb + sb for striker 2 formula..coz they already have one for ref 780i..

sigh..sb cooling been a prob for striker 2 users..sry i cant help much..

The advice you have given me has been valuable and I am very grateful for it. Yeah it seems striker formula buyers have been left short when it comes to watercooling really.

I'll try and bug bitspower to produce a northbridge/southbridge block but I doubt it will come to anything.

    wow..gatecrasherlok..thats a fast response..

i am glad u think so..

yes..i noe how u feel..i felt the same way while i was staring at my southbridge waterblock, finding ways to get around it..

i had a little chat with the guy who helped mi mod the ek southbridge waterblock and made the custom case for my radiator placement..but he realli have no time to do another similar modifications..he doesnt even wan mi to refer ppl to him coz he said that this kinda of job takes up way too much time..but he did all this things out of favour for mi..coz he cited that the material's cost is cheap..

perhaps u would want to source out for someone whos involve in doing those commercial radiator and stuff..they have the tools for this kinda of job..

I don't know if I want to try and go around the shops again to do them. I tried about a year ago for about 1 month solid sourcing radiator fabricators to do something like this for me but they all declined to do anything of the sort.

Something a bit OT But do you face any crashes or anything like that using non sli ready memory?

I had the extreme and apparently it crashed all the time because of my RAM

Do you face any such probs?

    Thanks

    hah..not realli OT..i think..

er..u mean the settings in bios or the ram itself?

    wat is the extreme?

yes i do experience hangs and all at the start..

total hang while watching videos..its always that situation..

asus came out with a couple of new bios..

and it solved the prob from then on..no hangs no nothing..smooth..bios from 13 sth sth solved it..iirc..

i recently tried the 1901..its great..maybe u shld try it..

nothing to do with the non-use of SLI ram SLI ram like XMP ram just allow the use of profiles in bios, they're not special memory (apart from being certified by NV and Intel )

Wpw that is very nice indeed (bows). Anyway son my front regarding the southbridge I asked a watercooling retaier and they said the ek acetyl waterblock will fit the southbridge as long as the second pci'e slot is unvacated but looking at your pics I'm still not convinced a barb would fit when a gtx 295 is put into the first gtx295 slot.

Oh and it looks like there is something for the striker formula in the pipeline whether it be two seperate blocks or a sb/nb all in one block from bitzpower. I emailed them and they told me that there is a lot of requests for this board and it looks like there might be a one on the way. If it turns out to be true, and hopefully no problems with the block regarding gpu fitments then you'll be hearing from me as I'll sink this rig in water too.

its great but a bit on the messy side
just tuck those little wires and mount the res/pump with screws and make it come out
use like long plate with screws put in them
almost like a enclosure put little plate coming out and mount it like that you will get to see everything

@ alpha1ma, that's a sweet looking build (I'm also going for red and black).

Just had a couple of things I wanted to say/ask (hope you don't mind):

You say you have used red feser one, I have been told that under UV this goes pink or sometimes orange, have you added any additional dyes to the liquid to get it that red?

Also, to you and gatecraherlok I am using the Striker II Formula and I have a mips SB block that should fit in a triple SLI set up (might struggle if your middle card uses a back plate), have a look below (my Mobo)-

Man i've long'd to dump mine under water for so long and a year has passed with no real solution. It definately will not work now that I have upgraded the graphics car dto the 295. inspecting your picture the graphics card will not fit into slot one. Looks like I have to wait a little longer then to see if anything else crops up. If nothing comes before april, I think I'll close the doors on this coffin and go x58. I've waited too long.
