Hmm--how expensive would a setup be now-a-days? With an ATX board--I can't use eATX.

In seven different languages, probably. These boards are exceptionally resistant to overclocking by any means.

Yeah, but I have a feeling that my mom will kill me. I am limited to two computer chassis--both ATX. Hmm... I already have PSU and drives... meh. I'm guessing the ATX version is completely unavailable for a reasonable rate?

Since every ones going to figure out what I have been upto, I will post in the open.

Past couple of days, I have been working extremly hard trying to edit / unhide options in the intel based BIOS.

But i have not had any luck.

    - Below I will give you the reasoning

    Please see screen shot
This is visiable to us guys,
    http://www.ibby.co.uk/xs/amibcp.JPG

As you can see it has fields pre filled in, some are user selected others are "refresh only"

the ones I was intrested in were
    "FSB" "Freqancy"

    http://www.ibby.co.uk/xs/offset.JPG

After days atlooking at the code, I managed to figure out how to change the headings, but was unable to change the field we most needed (Access / Use)

More hunting, and looking at the code and comparing code whilst i was changing settings, made me belive and has been confimed by another source that if the settings are not in AMIBCP, then you can not change or edit any settings. - Becuase the orginal coder has not put the options in.

(well you cant access them with a high level encoder)

And most people will ask the question, why not put the settings in.
Well in plain terms the settings can just not be put in. they have to be coded to the chipset/ics cpu and other resources.

The BIOS nowadays are coded diffrently with a higher based software encoder, which is not avalible to us.

Iam not giving up, but iam sorry for letting the team down.

Not that it matters much to me, being that I don't have an Intel board and don't really intend to buy one even if we do manage to hack the bios for it.

I'm actually traveling today but later tonight I can send you "screenshots" of the bios on my board. It will actually be ASCII from a serial-over-lan console session, but it works.

If you're looking for the bios screens for the Tyan board, Phoronix has a great set here
What are you trying to achive with the microcode ?

The other thing is that I wanted to look at the related Lindenhurst boards that are built for Nocona/Irwindale since those would be running at 800MHz fsb. Then I got sidetracked with plans over the weekend, and then I had to work today and travel, so nothing else got done.

Anyway, attached are ASCII "screenshots" of the bios taken using the serial-over-lan interface via IPMI. I couldn't take actual screenshots since I'm sitting in a hotel in Boston and the server is in the basement back home in Jersey.

    I think for any part
(injecting the microcode into the BIOS is probably going to be the easy bit)

However ...... does the Aopen board meet the regulations of PMW?

The issues here I belive is, we need to make the board belive ... that its a 200FSB processor.

without having a board here (Dave) I have afew ideas

OK, so we've brought in ibby who is good with BIOS's but is running into issues here so i sent a PM to a gentleman who has offerred to help.
I don't want to see him get a 100 PM's from the guys on this so I'm not naming him but it's fair to say that he is one of the best people in our hobby.
IE: If he can't figure this out no one can..

    I just saw a SE7520BB2 board for $19!
    2GB RAM for $37!

Now to find CPUs and heatsinks! Unless I can rig up a way to stick two old AXP heatsinks on there

I'm tempted, if you couldn't tell I would think that one of these would easily outdo a couple AXPs and an A64 or two?

Boards at Citrix correct? I just bought 3 last week.
and you need the special HS.. Only place in the world that has them is 19 miles from my house..They charge $25.00 to ship two of them and $20 for the two HS=$45.00/pair
I'm making a trip there in the next week to get more as that way no shipping charge to me and maybe $10.00 to ship to you not $25.00

Yep that's where the board is.

No way to stuff a different heatsink on there huh? Dang, oh well

Board and RAM look good and cheap, and the heatsinks (through you if you don't mind) and I have an HD (IDE but it works) and a PSU. Biggest cost is CPUs it looks like, haven't been able to find much.

FYI, I don't know the guy and don't get kick-backs for referrals, just thought I'd pass along the word on good prices.

I was doing some reading in the manual for the Intel board and noticed that it has a built-in BIOS savior of sorts. It has two BIOS banks, so you just roll back to the old one via jumper if you have a bad flash. I guess the flash operation only updates the active bank (which is also settable via jumper). Cool stuff.

I'll be shipping sammy1 to my brother at school and keeping sammy2 for myself.

I did sammy1 with a Supermicro board in a Supermicro case, and I'll be doing sammy2 with an Intel board in a Intel case. I'm kinda odd that way
THE case to put a sammy in is a Lian Li PC62..
Classey, and not bad in price..
It's the EATX version of the PC60:
    $100.00
    http://www.coolerguys.com/840556007340.html
Old tech now and why it's so cheap..
2-80's front, one rear.. Not enough for todays hot systems but plenty for sammy

If I went with the 1.67 GHz sossamans I could do the BSEL mod to 2.67GHz - if the chips can handle that? I don't know

Found them here for $45 each but they are in Canada so I can imagine what shipping would be. Not sure if that is $45 CAD or USD.
