Portcityslim, all the things you stated are reasonable enough, but your 45nm cpu plays different with your board than that 65nm cpu. You'd be surprised how an easier overclock it will be for you. Instead of merely moving voltages around,

    1. Clear cmos
    2. start all over from stock and move up in 5 increments, changing nothing till absolutely necessary, starting with vcore, vnb, and fsbt
    3. Remember, that 9x450 is a higher speed than what your board was running previously, in my experience, you may need a tad higher nb to cope nicely with the speedier processor
    4. Stay away from modded bioses for the moment until you know what is stable on a normal bios

    Better luck.

    PortCitySlim

Mate you run with my same luck on this new chips, don't get descouraged as i did, this was my second Q9650 and still don't get a good one...Also i talked to radaja that had the same problems than on my MF2 and In my country i can't RMA the board for that...so you can imagine...

    Zucker2k

You are right to start ocing on that way

On my personal experience on this chips i must say that are awesome, they can boot higher clocks with very low volts, thing that i couldn't do with my 65nm quads, but to get it stable on the MF2 was a nightmare i put all my experience, many ppl here helped me a lot on tips but 2 was a months nightmare 1 day stable next hours not and so on, so...I quit i will be going to UD3P and if possible get a better chip

As for stuck sensors I must admit that's a shocking experience, my L825B513 was my first 45nm came in the old box, I did all the burn in and had it for a month on low volts (1,32), then start going up litle by little. I don't know if that affects OC or not but's really you must admit that something has to be wrong inside the chip and kindy annoying for the end user.

Either way we all know that this is like this and we can only keep going forward

PortCitySlim the best for you on your next chip

Zucker2k keep going very nice clocks there

If anyone spots a nice Q9650 just tell me so this poor Uruguayan doesn't get "more" crazy on the search

    Cheers to all
    Sergio

Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

You're better off testing mem with HCI Memtest.

Well I don't know if it just coindice or not But I just got my 9650 form mwave the day they dropped in price small blue/ white box Batch L827A945 and it has a great vid (1.16v) but the fourth sensor is stuck @ 38' and won't move til tem,ps rise above the 38' so like I said not sure but I think Jor3 might be onto something here ?

people visit pages 3-4-5 and see even then people were getting vids of 1.25 and stuck sensors, all this talk is making us new users feel like weve been cheated but in fact it just a poor sensor design.

From day one 45nm CPU's have been plagued by bad, stuck sensors. But don't forget that it can also be not working on your mobo, but they can work perfectly on another mobo or even bios version for ya mobo... I've owned enough 45nm CPU's

Mine are stuck in a funny way actually. Sensor 0 seems to be working perfectly, 1 is exactly 7 degrees lower than 0 all the time, 2 and 3 work perfectly above 39c but won't ever read anything below that.

I've mounted the cpu block at least 4 times with new tim each time, yielding the exact same results every time.

The sensor 2 and 3 thing happened after running the chip for 3 to 4 days in my system. At first they worked just as well as 0.

As long as I have more than one sensor working reasonably well under load, i feel the thermal shutdown can failsafe if there is an issue.

Screw the sensor I want speed and this cpu provides plenty Dont get me wrong Im not getting a 60% overclock as I did with my Q6600 but I also didnt hit 4GHz+ on air with that either And as far as I'm concerned I got a 1.16vid and damn happy with that

    Post EP45E+Q9650@4352Mhz 1.32vcore 1.3vtt 5:6 Strap DDR2@1230Mhz_PL8

    Hi Guys,

Got the Gigabyte EP45-Extreme to play with my Q9650 L820A930 07/08.

Main objective was to get to know the Extreme board and compare it with my UD3P.

I used the strap 5:6 and I got to say it was a pleasure at 1230Mhz rams where doing fine. Still un-tweaked but if I have more time during the week I'll post updates.

All low volts for people that want 24/7 use: 1.32vcore, 1.30vtt, 1.50pll, 1.440vnb, 1.20vsb (except ram that was on Auto but can be lowered to 2.060vdimm).

hey jor, i wanna see what that board can do. I 'almost' bought an open-box version of that board. But I wasn't sure of what it could do. I "know" that a ud3p could clock well, its already proven itself.
If anyone can clock an extreme board; YOU can do it.
I know that the extreme version has a lot better voltage reg. So theoretically it can really do great. I'm just not sure about the bios, and its updates. The ud3p seems to get a lot more updates. (even though; they dont seem to be working real good).
I really like the Nb-cooling on that extreme; my ud3p gets very hot to the touch with high-fsb runs.
