I did run prime 95 for load and the increased airflow over the motherboard kept the mosfets very cool. I didn't have any issue there and don't even have the watercooling hooked up on the maximus extreme.

wow nice coolerbut that TEC seems like it has lots of potential, if you rearranged the molex connectors so it would be 12v, think you'd get lower temps? and if you do, i doubt it would be enough to cause condensation.

I think the TEC is fed by the 12v line![]()
Yep it is. The 5 volt supplies power to the control unit and the 12 volt line feeds the tec. That is where high current is measured flowing through.

Nope it shuts the whole TEC system down. I tried it :P
Only way to run TEC at 100% all the time is to unplug it from the control unit and power it directly from your molex. I will have those results up in a couple of days. Also might throw in a 220W TEC and see what happens...

Great reviewand I look forward to your results with a 220W TEC.

Great review, but seriously though, people that are going to drop $140-150 dollars on this thing are probably going to be running the latest and greatest....i7 920 / x58. So why review it with an old dual core? Come on now. Let's see what this thing can do with a quad.

What im implying is that their testing method is the weirdest one ive ever seen in my life. Just look at it. They dont even use a standard motherboard setup or anything its so weird. Im saying not to count Tweaktown into your assessment... since they should try a completely different testing method.
I have no clue what any of that data is saying or its value
Load temps lower than idle temps on the Nirvana? Load temps 3-4C higher than idle temps on the majority of coolers? That data is essentially useless.
Oh well...it's up in retail now, surely we'll see more reviews![]()
Bravo Biggie with an exceptional review. Can't wait to see the head to head with the TRUE.
This is their "testing method" more of a joke if you ask me. Saves them time if anything... Id be glad if they could explain it in depth...

That TweakTown review is messed up...pretty much everything idled 4C lower than it loaded? Don't know about you guys but my aircoolers don't exactly do that...
Ah nevermind...read their testing methodology article too. Still very hard to read and the data seems relatively useless in my opinion.

They're effectively simulating a CPU which imo... can only work until a certain point when CPUs become hotter and dies change and IHS' change and such. It may have been a novel idea, but whatever happened to just testing them all on the same motherboard and CPU in the same room?
It is alot louder than the V8, at idle and load. I really couldn't tell any noise differences between load and idle.
The TEC produces absolutely no noise. What was not new and not a quad about a phenom II 940?? It showed a 14 degree advantage over the V8 on that phenom running stock... We must not forget that core temps between a dual and a quad core will not vary because there are more cores, having more cores just pumps more heat into the cpu cooler than a cpu with less cores. That is why the larger temp difference margins are present on the phenom and it isn't so noticeable on the dual core.
Phenom II 940 is 125W TDP
Intel E8400 is 65W TDP

The second loudest cooler @ over 60db which is way too loud IMO
Costs $140 and is only 2c cooler than a TRUE. It also doesn't exactly help that it's probably the biggest most oblong heat sink you've ever seen.
What about attatching a quieter fan like a Yate Loon to it and see how it fairs.
Dual 2400RPM vs. single 1800RPM is no competition for noise
Attaching a slower fan could actually result in better temps on lower loads...could let the TEC kick in moreMaybe not though
