I think the aim of competition is to challenge with everybody with equal hardware. If you alone (or with other 3-4 guys all over the world) have a new sample CPU (more powerful then previous CPUs) this is a challenge between 3 o 4 people and is quite normal to obtain some WRs compared to old technology.

In cartoons with Mr. Speedy Gonzales everything is possible, if you think we are in a cartoon I totally agree with you. (sorry for my not so good humor ).
