    Question Heatpipe on Asus P6T Deluxe

    To anyone that's removed their stock heatpipe from the Asus P6T Deluxe for water cooling purposes, did you notice on the back on the heatpipe if the motherboard NB, SB and/or MOSFETs made an imprint in the thermal tape or thermal compound?

    I'm curious whether proper contact is made onto the back of the heatpipe assembly. I already experienced this with the Rampage Extreme and am finding out this may be a problem with the Rampage II Extreme as well.

    Thanks.

    Today I started OC'ing my new hardware. Besides the first results (which look promising, I gues) I also bumped into some questions.

    Questions:
    As you can see I'm using Asus P6T mobo but there are some settings in bios which I'm not sure of what to select. These are the following items and settings I applied:

    C1E Support: disabled
    Hardware prefetcher: disabled
    Adjecent cache line prefetch: disabled
    Intel Virtualization tech: disabled
    CPU TM function: enabled
    Execute-disable bit: enabled
    Intel HT technology: disabled
    Active processor cores: all
    A20M: disabled
    Intel speedstep tech: disabled
    Intel turbomode tech: disabled
    Intel C-state tech: disabled

    - Did I apply the correct settings on overall?
    - Is it possible to enable a power consumption saving setting (like speedstep for instance) while overclocking?
    - Is it possible to use turbomode on P6T when using 190+ bclk?

    First results
    After a lot of reading I applied some reference voltages in the bios and started OC'ing right away. It seems to be stable right away. I'm not used to that after switching from P5E3-Premium to this board. These results are without HT enabled. But is there much more vcore necessary when enabling HT? I think my temps are good and still have some potential left. Nonetheless I would like to know your opinion on these results and if possible give some advice for improvement.

    Settings:
    MP: 20x
    BCLK: 200
    DRAM: 1200
    Uncore: 3200
    QPI: 3600
    Vcore: 1.35
    CPU PLL: 1.92
    QPI/DRAM: 1.35
    CPU spread spectrum: disabled
    PCIE spread spectrum: disabled

    Everything else on AUTO

    Does anyone else have a problem OC profile in bios? If I want to start OC profile it won't start. And if I want to save a profile in one of the two predefined slots it only saves under the default name. Anyone else who had this problem?

    Guy's I'm having a vga issue here and top off that I've seen something.

    My P6t Deluxe has a 8-pin 12V power connector for the CPU.

    But 4 pins are covered with a black 'plate'. So I've only connected one 4-pin power adapter into it.

    Should I remove the black plate and install a second 4-pin power adapter???

    Why did asus cover 50% off the connector? O shouldn't I do this since it's not a feature for the core i7 920?

    If you have an 8 pin connector from your power supply use that instead, if not 4 pin will suffice hence the cover on the extra 4 emphasizing its not mandatory.

    Of course being XS where most are pushing big clocks and pulling high current its a good idea to use all 8 pins.

    Your kidding me right?!? I hope they will fix that with a new bios update. My previous board (P5E3-Premium) didn't had that issue and worked fine with RAID enabled. (It had other issues which the P6T-Deluxe is far superior in)

    I thought it was mandatory when a Quadcore is installed to provide enough juice, even at standard clock.

    I have some weird problem with my HDD. Now and then it seems to lock up for only a second or so (like cursor in Windows isn't moving for one second). At that moment I hear some sort of click from one of my spinpoint HDD's. The same click as when I turn of my computer and you hear all the HDD's lock up one by one (some kind of transportation modus). After this second it's fine and only happens at random again after that.

    I already tried to adjust HDD energy saving options by disabling them all. Because I thought Windows wanted to lock unused HDD's. Unfortunately that didn't work. I also installed the RAID driver from the Asus CD that ships with the mobo. I think it's version 8.xx but I also found a newer version 9.xx on Asus website. I just can't update the driver when I go to device manager, update driver and redirect to the location of v9.xx. It says that there are no new drivers available.

    Anyone has a clue?

    I've had the same problem with my HDD. I was getting lockups even while displaying a web page. The most obvious culprit seemed to be the HDD. I benchmarked it with HD Tune and the read performance was abysmal (around 20MB/s). I plugged my drive from SATA port 4 or 5 (can't remember) to SATA port 1 and it solved the problem immediately so I might have a bad SATA port. Try that you never know, you could have the same buggy port.

    Though I am very pleased with the overall performance of this board, there are an other 2 very annoying bugs: OC Profile doesn't work on this board (No RAID here) and the battery doesn't work either. In fact the battery slot is very badly inserted in the M/B. Since I very rarely shut down the PSU, it's not a huge problem, but still.

    Not mandatory, just more wires to divide the current across.

    @ Hannibal

    Thanks for your reply. I already thought I read somewhere across this forum that somebody had this problem as well. I added some screenshots from HD Tune while surfing the internet but it seems fine to me.

    @ Highoctane

    Alright, thanks for clarifying because I was convinced it was mandatory.

    Have you tried coretemp or realtemp to read temps to see if they report the same issue, maybe try reflashing the bios if all else fails.

    There might be an issue running them in RAID 0 if i remember correctly..The reason for the v2 release? I'm not sure but have read this.

    Well v2 doesn't have sas at all so I don't think thats it, from what I can gather v2 is going to possibly be sold at a lower price point possibly due in part to the sas delete.

    I'm wondering whats taking Asus so long, they normally have like 20 variants of a board by the time its been out this long, where's the e se pro pro se pro e etc.

    Ok, found another bug or something and I'm curious if someone else experiences the same. Everytime I puch the power button to start up my comp. it starts and stops after few seconds, to boot normally after a few seconds stop. It's similar like you have set a failed OC and the system reboots twice but during second reboot bios has been reset to default during POST and you have to push F1 to get in the bios or continue boot with default settings. The only important difference with my "normal" startup is that the second time the OC settings are still present and will boot in Windows just fine. Is this a commonly known issue with bios 1102 or am I the only one having this problem?

    Thinks found till know:
    - OC profile program not working;
    - Weird HDD lockups;
    - Booting twice when turning on power.

    I have the P6T vanilla and one of these issues are present.
    I do experience, however, a slow boot. I turn on my pc and it takes aaaaaaages until it beeps and boots for the first time. About 10 seconds
    After it beeps, everything else is pretty quick

It's similar like you have set a failed OC and the system reboots twice but during second reboot bios has been reset to default during POST and you have to push F1 to get in the bios or continue boot with default settings. The only important difference with my "normal" startup is that the second time the OC settings are still present and will boot in Windows just fine. Is this a commonly known issue with bios 1102 or am I the only one having this problem?

    Thinks found till know:
    - OC profile program not working;
    - Weird HDD lockups;
    - Booting twice when turning on power.
    My P6T non deluxe acts the same like yours.
