i never knew that there were red ones too.. isn´t the reference pcb black too?

I did a quick search, but did not see if you need to do a BIOS update for this board to use a 940BE.

Is this needed? If yes, normal BIOS utility update will work? If no, any other options besides getting a newer board?

phenomII is officially supported since bios 0504.
even with the 0403 bios it will work, but it doesn´t recognize the cpu as phenom.
