I gather it's like the less plausible/reliable info the more salt needed.
take something with a grain of salt
to consider something to be not completely true or right. I've read the article, which I take with a grain of salt.
Related vocabulary: hard to swallow
Etymology: based on the idea that food tastes better and is easier to swallow if you add a little salt

Atleast I based my expectation on something.

It would be awesome if it could happen, but I would suggest that the last 5+ years shows such an occurrence to be extremely unlikely.
Keep in mind they have already made a jump from 2.6Ghz to 3.0Ghz, in one fell swoop, I don't see how they will go from 2.6Ghz to 4.0Ghz in 12 months on just a tweaked architecture that has been shrunk.
agree'd
if they don't it will be a bit of a failure.. but If they exceed that it would be very surprising.
I don't think the 65nm is really a valid point of reference. Hans has a few posts on why it wasn't really much of a performer, perhaps losing even to optimized 90nm silicon.
With 45nm they are back on track, and I'd say that their roadmap would be closer to the 90nm progress instead.
K8 X2 went from 2.2Ghz to 2.8Ghz for 89W ratification in approximately a year's time. I'm not comparing 125W CPUs because previous X2s were rated 110 instead, and the top TDP rating is always spacious where you can't be sure whether it's technical reasons or others that Mhz can't be pushed.
What AMD should have done was is kept the chips at Phenom II FX 2.3ghz and then debuted them to the OC World and released the 3.0ghz chip to mainstream 1 month later this way it would shut the Intel guys up![]()

^^^ Lol, such blatant fanboyism. Anyway, now that this rumor has also been squashed, what next? Where's Informal? You guys need to face REALITY; it's because you don't, that's why you start fights when an objectice observer makes a post you don't like. Tolerance people, tolerance.
Lol why you have such a need to call me out genius? I even said that it is unlikely this is true,so i have no idea what are you on about. But hey,it's nothing new when it comes to you,you just reaffirm the global opinion about your fanboism whenever you post
Ah lol,priceless.Tolerance people, tolerance

LOL, same ol', same ol', another AMD news thread that got derailed by Intel fanboys or simply AMD haters, and it seems to have an unofficial blessing by the forum wiseguys, pretty funny indeed.![]()
I think not Old Boy!!!(I'm not even going to roll my eyes at you either)
How many times do I have to say this ........at the end of the day I could really give a flyingwho gets more brownie points on Super Pi , Everest , Sandra..... or whatever
Yet you people continue to call me a Fan Boy....why? Because I have a AMD System that I enjoy that qualifies me for name calling and labeling? Sounds like more Flame Baiting if you ask me.
And Prey Tell what is Reality ZUCKER..........That we are idiots because we have our own likes , dislikes and personal preferences? That my friend is called individuality and freedom of choice you live in America this concept should not be new to you... I guess only smart people go with what the Majority thinks is cool huh?
Funny when I was still on AMD 939 and all of the wanna be cool people were running C2D I got nothing but negativity and rude behavior towards me but......As soon as I started Running Intel all of a sudden the Problems with Peoples reverence and dislikes and rude attitudes towards me went away, guess what though? As soon as I went from INTEL to AMD all that B.S with People came back into play ..............Funny as you sit here and elect to call me names and insult me, I just laugh because your all just a bunch of Phony 2 Faced People with a Identity Crisis's that believes anything the Media or TV tells them!![]()

Sad to see this is fake....But at the same time, in the bottom of my head, I thought 3.5Ghz stock clocks was too much to begin with.....Maybe by mid/end year or something untill the process matures.
3.5ghz will happen with K10. AMD went from 2.6ghz 65nm to now officially 3.1ghz 45nm without High-k. Going from 3.1ghz to 3.5ghz or faster with 32nm+High-k don't seem far fetched. The timeframes on that chart is the only thing hard to believe.
I think all this doesnt mean crap its gonna come down to pricing again. If this is how AMD is going to play it with their little bumps every cpl months we've seen this before. I just hope when these new chips come out they are going to be priced well and in supply so we dont have to wait for the normal price reduction. Seems like a lot of people are ready to jump on AM3 especially if its priced right. I'm still waiting to go quad lol

Maybe I don't understand, but what makes this fake? Is there a formal statement from AMD or some other validating source?
sourceIn recent days, however, we have different opinions to get Modellnummerbezeichung. Deshalb entstand gestern eine neue Roadmap, die ab dem AMD Phenom II X4 950 eine Modellnummersteigerung von 10 vorsieht. So we had yesterday a new roadmap, which from the AMD Phenom X4 950 II a model number increase of 10. Daraus entstand folgende Roadmap. This resulted in the following roadmap.
AMD Phenom II X4 950 (4 x 3,1 GHz) AMD Phenom X4 II 950 (4 x 3.1 GHz)
AMD Phenom II X4 960 (4 x 3,2 GHz) AMD Phenom X4 II 960 (4 x 3.2 GHz)
AMD Phenom II X4 970 (4 x 3,3 GHz) AMD Phenom X4 II 970 (4 x 3.3 GHz)
AMD Phenom II X4 980 (4 x 3,4 GHz) AMD Phenom X4 II 980 (4 x 3.4 GHz)
AMD Phenom II X4 990 (4 x 3,5 GHz) AMD Phenom X4 II 990 (4 x 3.5 GHz)
Seems to me they are making their own prediction. The translation of this news is a little difficult to understand which is why I am asking about any valid source regarding this.

Yeap , but Enthusiast to others are like 1:1000 and that is how they keep things going , in my university for example they never clean the systems from dust and some of them are 4 years old , what is valid for us is not valid for them that is why the CPU will not throttle until it goes to 100C or even more and they have to make sure that it will keep working after such abuse (make me think about taking Core temp + prime 95 and abuse my university systems even more ) ,,, and BTW as an Enthusiast after cleaning and TIM + OC the CPU was running 10C cooler

This will probably mean tighter binning... all of the good chips will probably end up being 990s and the lower clocked ones will suck at OC'ing
