    Thanks for the clarification jcool.

The DFI board popped back up on Newegg today. Apparently they had another small shipment arrive. Unfortunately I waited too long to try and read some replies to my question and they were gone by that time. I think they only lasted about an hour.

Now after reading page 2 of this thread I'm really bummed out knowing I could have gotten one of the Taiwan built boards: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/sh...2205790&page=2

I'm just not as eager to pull the trigger now on the second batch knowing they're Chinese made. Considering that motherboardpro now shows them as being out of stock until the 13th, (http://www.motherboardpro.com/DFI-La...il-p-1036.html) I have no doubt that with a gap that long that their next batch will be the Chinese made units.

Looks like I have to go back to the drawing board on choices now. Was really looking forward to going with the DFI.

Still, OCing DFI mobos will never be as easy as, say, Asus or Gigabyte, but sometimes you can gain that little extra on DFIs that you don't get elsewhere - IF you are prepared to tweak for some time (1 week min for max stable CPU/mem/etc clocks I'd say).

If you just want something that works and OCs great without a hassle, I can highly recommend the Gigabytes. I had 2 EX58-Extreme for customer builds so far, all you need to do even with 12GB of ram is set 5-6 settings in bios and it just works at 200 BCLK, stable as a rock. Haven't pushed these above a 200 BCLK due to lack of time, but they'd probably do more as well.

Now as to the x58 DFI, I am still waiting on my new evap head and CPU to arrive, so I can't really tell how easy/difficult it will be to OC it. According to the bios shots I have seen and to eva2000's postings I gather it's easier than it was on the X38/X48/P45 mobos (my X38 has 100-150 settings for ram tweaking alone )
DFI X58 is sooooo much easier than prior DFI boards to oc' they're really sooo different !

I guess this mobo will gain a "few" settings over time though.. my X38 got like 20 new options during the course of new bios releases
Good to know it's that much easier to handle though, I wasn't really looking forward to a clone of my X38 either.

For those waiting these are back in stock at Newegg, but judging by how quickly Monday's small batch sold I doubt they will last long.

Has anyone been able to run a single 4870x2 in the bottom PCIe slot with nothing in the other slots? I can't seem to get it to PoST in this config.

And yes, I did plugin the floppy connector.

Im assuming you've cleared cmos using jumper and also tried booting with just one stick of ram? Do you have your dimms in the green slots or the yellow slots. You will need them in the green slots for tri channel and dual channel or you will get that error code or f1 code I think.

What NB block would go on this board? Something that would fit nicely with a GTZ in the same loop and a PA 120.3.

62mm hole distance.. same as DFI X38/X48. So basically anything that fit the older DFIs will fit this one. Same goes for PWM as well.

For NB, doesn't matter really. Many blocks that fit. For PWM there is only the MIPS block I know of.. had it on my DFI x38 like I said, worked extremely well and liked the look.

Ok, I was just thinking about the NB block as they are all connected with pipes which leads me to believe that a good NB block would help cooling the mosfets as well. Never heard of MIPS before.

So the MIPS kit from DFI P35/X38/X48 is X58 compatible too?

I have that one so that would be an incentive for getting this board.

Yeah they should fit. I haven't tried as I sold my x38 to a friend and was kind of in a hurry, along with all the blocks, so I am running the x58 on stock cooling for now.
Mips homepage says something about a "Rev. 2" PWM freezer which is compatible with X38/X48/X58 but it says you need the rev. 2 for the x58.
Dunno really, I just took quick measurements of the mounting holes and noticed they were identical. Gonna call Frank at Mips on Monday and find out.

Most likely some differences os the PWM area...
I'll wait for your input from Frank, and then proceed accordingly.

I have to agree with Eva, it's a great board to overclock and this is the first DFI board that the overclock recovery works for me every time

It's just a shame that my CPU is a voltage hog

Will get my board within a few hours. What bios should I go with and is there any need to update any drivers or anything similar?

    http://www.dfi.com.tw/portal/CM/cmpr...rmal&mode=view

Click on Bios and you see this on the newest bios:

    !!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!WARNING!!!

Please click here for Update the "LX58D114.ABS" first by Auto Boost system AP file when you changed BIOS version..

    What does that warning mean?

That you should update ABS system as well. I dont think its totaly necessary if you dont use ABS..

    Answer is here

@ABS: I didn't ever use it (whatever it is) so I just flashed 114 bios, worked.

What do you people find with POM? I think it looks just cheap.. wouldn't call it an upgrade over the silver or brass colored ones anyways
