HAHA yeah Australian summer ain't helping but if you check my cpuz validation url and time stampe converted for Brisbane time you'll notice most bench sessions done very very late when it ain't so hot hehe

Yeah expensive hence holding out for memory samples LOL

or DFI's next bios release with what i requested to be added - fingers crossed (might help with even higher mem clocks than I have now topping out at DDR3-2228Mhz for super pi 32m)

Maybe being first shipment, Intel didn't bin their first batch of i7 920s as tightly as they do now ???
First of all, great bclks.... and this is a beautiful board for clocking i7s.

We have found the first batch of i920s with lot codes of 3834 just suck, or least the ones we have currently. Neither of them will do more than 200 bclk on any X58 board regardless of VCore or VTT settings. Raja's 3836 is almost as good as your 3836s and the two 3837s I have will reach the same clock speed as Raja's lot or yours, but needs about .10V more VTT and .05V additional VCore to do it. This often puts me in a situation where VTT has to be raised within Windows via software as I usually get the dreaded C1 error at POST if VTT is above 1.475V or so, which I need considering the additional VTT required by my two chips.

I have a 3841 arriving next week, but was told to stay away from most of the 3838/3840 lots but 3835 is potentially a golden lot along with the 3836-7xx lots. Personally, I think Intel got surprised with the initial demand on the i920 and total lack of demand on the 940/965 and switched those binned chips (before being cut) over to i920s for a short period, reverted back to actual binning, and have switched over once again to control inventories. In the meantime, Raja or I will be visiting you and bringing along Guido to convince you to share your chips.

    impressive boards these DFIs

Gary one of the users on OCAU has the new week 41

its probably the best overclocking CPU i've seen requiring less volts at certain frequencies than other steppings

hopefully they are all like that

lol... locks away my cpus hehe

thanks Gary - maybe additional VTT is a problem with the board used ? IIRC, you're testing DFI UT X58-T3EH8 too ? so is the additional VTT needed also on DFI X58 ? You may find you'd need less VTT on DFI ?

I'm finding how much VTT is needed also depends on memory used.. maybe you're using 3x2GB which requires more than 3x1GB ??? I only have tested with 3x1GBb as have no 3x2GB on hand yet.

Thanks Eva for posting your adventures, since i am just starting my journey with my i7, i have spent the last 2 days getting my OS set and reading about Bclk and qpi's, man it's a little different isn't it...

but i appreciate you posting your thoughts, results and settings, it's giving me a feel for the relationships, and tomorrow i go for my first goal, 4g with my 920 and gig extreme.

    nice stuff

nice results eva2000 ! also could you confirm any problems with 64-bit vista which is the one I use? and I heard something about overvolting cpu voltage...

    what 64bit vista problems ?

there's a slight overvolt if you believe windows apps for vcore during idle but during load (enabled droop) it droops to what is set in bios i.e. set 1.35v vcore bios, = 1.360v windows idle and 1.328v windows load but that is by design AFAIK

thanks, not sure if you can repeat the bclk gains on DFI on non-DFI X58 boards, would need folks with those boards to test it out and confirm. All I know is DFI X58 can do it

    i7 920 3836A756 #2
    Max BClock

Testing 2nd twin batch cpu and definitely this second i7 920 3836A756 is better than my first one in terms of max Bclock and low CPU VTT usage.

    i7 920 3836A756 #1
    • max memtest86+ bootable bclk = 224 requiring 1.58-1.60v CPU VTT
    • max super pi 32m bclk = 222bclk (without IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) & 228bclk (with IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) requiring 1.60-1.61v CPU VTT
    • max CPUZ Validation = 230bclk requiring 1.60-1.63v CPU VTT

    i7 920 3836A756 #2
    • max memtest86+ bootable bclk = 229bclk requiring 1.40-1.48v CPU VTT
    • max super pi 32m bclk = 227bclk (without IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) & ???bclk (with IOH/ICH voltage tweaks TBD) requiring 1.48-1.50v CPU VTT
    • max CPUZ Validation = 231bclk requiring 1.50v CPU VTT

TBD - Haven't tested 2nd cpu with IOH/ICH tweaks yet

    Max Validation @231Bclock

    CPU VTT = 1.50v

Max Screenshot @228Bclk with low CPU VTT

    Max 32M @225Bclk

Bit higher at same CPU VTT = 1.48 = 227Bclk

Jealous me is eyeing your latest results, just wondering if D0 stepping would show any further improvements for you at all...

I see you have pushed #1 to 1.6+VTT and stoped #2 at 1.5VTT, why?
Does it refuse to post with higher or is just sweet spot?

yeah i have mixed feelings on D0, on one hand want it to be better than my current cpus - 250-300bclk please While on other hand D0 will make my current i7 920 not so special anymore LOL

I just used what voltage i needed to get the bclks I was looking at. My goal is to have the best optimal clocks at the least amount of voltages after all I'm only on air cooling heh.

    I'll push it more later

Nice work EVA, have the same setup except with the regular 1600 Dominator 6GB and watercooled CPU.

My first intel build (coming fom AMD since day one) moved to the dark side to see how it is and i like

DFI fan here, favorite was n-force4, so looking for simliar or better results.

BTW thanks for your very imformative posts on core i7, now i more or less know how to push it etc.. Great website i4memory

Ups you know, I have gone through your page as well where you have much info on your overclocking with the mobo. This was exactly what I was looking for.

Is there anywhere where each of those volts are explained? I have only tried playing with vcore, vtt and vdimm voltages so far. Still only on stock cooling though so I don't wanna try too much..
