excellent temps for those clocks Fox. How did you come to using a lower than standard Amplitude?

Great work Avan. I will edit my first post, as this is now enough info to start a real database, crediting you of course.

Yahh, the temps are good although the fans are very quiet.
The Feser480/GTZ are an excellent way to tame those i7 temps.

About the amplitude, Some guy here with the same board gave me his settings and I tried them and they worked nice so I gave them a go since.
It took me a while to digest and understand all the different parameters in this setp and I am still not 100% done so maybe there is room for improvement.
I might as well try without it as it looks like my temps are a bit higher than other people with same week (37), but its a nice chip

What is the max voltage most people are using for 24/7 use? Most I've seen was 1.39, is it the temps everyone is afraid of?

    Hi Nemesis,
Could you keep me updated on the 3837B317 chip? I just picked on of those up. Many thanks!

Currently testing 3838A671 i7 920 (ver. 002 on label) presently at 3.8GHz 1.23v load (1.2625v BIOS), GA-EX58-UD4P F6a on TRUE120 push-pull, EIST/C-states feature is on. Should be good enough setting for 24/7 ops.

Nice OCs there people, keep em coming!

Also if some of you would be willing to retest your OCs with higher mem/uncore speeds, that would be greatly appreciated, as I am currently trying to increase my ram mult at high clockspeeds, and I can't even get a boot into windows, even though it passed memtest several times. Seems my 940 has a really crappy IMC, my very weak 3838A 920 could easily run 200 BCLK/2Ghz Ram/4Ghz uncore while this 940 can't even boot Windows with 10x mult at 190 BCLK and is unstable as hell at 8x. Any setting setting besides VTT that I might try increasing?

I know exactly what you mean.
Basically if you want to run high Uncore clocks you need to raise DRAM voltage.
It was working for me and a lot of other people.
Just make sure you run your QPI/VTT voltage not lower than 0.5v than DRAM voltage.

For 4Ghz Uncore you will probably need about 1.8v for DRAM.

Alternatively, I find that CAS9 ram allot more forgiving on the IMC. Just a thought, but maybe relaxing the timings is a better alternative than just ramping up voltages?

also try testing with 1x2GB or 2x2GB modules to see if 3x2GB is holding you back. If it is then you have more mem tweaking to do with 3x2GB

If you increase uncore by itself to 20X or 21x is it still unstable, or does it become unstable when you then increase mem to 10X, ie is it mem or uncore causing problem?

My uncore scales to some degree with qpi pll, qpi/vtt and DRAM. To get my i940 to run arena chess benchmark at 4.57 (21x199), with uncore 22x (4378mhz), and mem 10x 1990 with 8,8,8 22 timings, needed qpi/vtt 1.61, DRAM 2.0, and qpi PLL 1.22. 1-2 notches below on any of 3 = bsod/freeze every time. others vcore 1.66, cpu pll 2.0, and ioh 1.2.

Thanks for the input guys.. I run around 1,8-1,9V Vdimm constantly so uncore shouldn't be a problem (I'll try with high uncore at 6x mult next to verify).
The thing is that even the 8x mult seems unstable and even went so far as to up the bios (rebooted during linX and went into a reboot loop.. had to remove battery for 2h to get it back up lol).

What helped a great deal was reducing the Command rate to 2T, I guess with 6GB 1T can be rather harsh on the IMC.

I was wondering about 1t myself, or just maybe your memory. I have 2 sets of 3x1gb, OCZ and corsair dom (rma and my impatience). After updating to windows 7 from xp, thought since I had 6 gb, why not. Put 6x1gb in, could not get anything stable, but did notice the default setting was command 2t (though I never tried it, from start I had manually 1t). But I am using 2 types of ram and all 6 slots. But I can tell you there is a lot of difference between my OCZ ram stability at different settings than corsair dom....so may just be something peculiar about your ram as well.

But if anyone else has issues or not running at 1t vs 2t with 6gb I would love to know. I did not know if it was 6gb or fact I was using all 6 slots, ie stupid way of 6 gb. I am considering changing to 3x2gb...but havent yet after getting hosed by 6x1gb.

latter posts seem to be drifting off-topic. Can you guys stay on topic, please? there are plenty of other threads to discuss memory and stability issues.

Yeah, I don't wanna get off topic, but look at the temps. There's no way I can Prime that. I'm certain it would throttle with that kind of load. It *barely* got through Chess. It funny in games because it doesn't even load that CPU at all. I temp logged it and the thing didn't even get warm during a 3 hour marathon gaming session.

I'm gonna call Monday and get my parts. I'll get it. I promise.

    I just "hand" picked a 3836B043.
Haven't seen anyone with this one yet, but I have hopes since it's a B.
Sorry, results won't come for a while though, gotta wait for the Classified.
I'll report back to this thread once I build the system!
