I am assuming you are talking about the difference in the version of Windows? I don't think that will make too big of a difference. However something that did not even notice before is that my memory is almost 400MHz faster than his so I know that is part of it, just not sure how much exactly. I am really not sure why you would run the NB that slow to begin with. I don't think it would give that much of an increase in overclock for the CPU, but I could be wrong.

I am struggling with my X4 920.
DFI LR 790GX-M2RS Jr
2x1GB Kingston "Value" DDR2-800
No way possible to get HTT > 240 from Bios.
Well, after a couple of total bios/mb lock-ups I tried one Ballistix DDR2-1066 stick which made it possible to reach HTT=256 (3.58Ghz). Had to "bump" the VCOre to 1.475.
Bench-stable at that speed also.
Edit:
I have tried all types of "tricks" both in Bios and to use AOD to get HTT > 244 (black-screens/noboots after that).
Will probably get some new sticks to go for higher HTT (if it helps). I suspect this is a bios issue as it has no effect to set timings manually to very slow speed (1:1, 6-6-6-18 23 2T) to exclude ram from OC-issues.
I am very disappointed by the DFI mb.
I really thought "lockups" like this was something not to be expected on newer mb.
(Reminds me of Socket-A/754/939/478 days).
Only way to get the board to boot again was to remove/reinstall RAM, CPU and remove Bios-battery. (the "clue" was to reinstall the CPU to get it goin' again).
All newer boards (both for Intel an AMD) I have been used to lately are able to reboot after max 3 "stuck loops".
Or at least reboot after pusihng *external* reset-button (at least the latter is to be mandatory for a board of this type/price from DFI).
This is the highest stable so far (unimpressive to say the least).![]()
Hmmm have you test any new bios?, Sounds wierd if you cant go higher....My Dfi 790FXB Dark works very well, do you have all settings shown in bios?(F9 if i remember right) , have you tested to change ram speed to 600/800?
Maybe you can get some good info from this thread.. http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=208340
And also AOD dont works so well for me... so bios clocking is best.

Thanks for answering.:
I have tried every trick "in the book"... and read all relevant threads I could find (including the one you link to).
Either the CPU or MB has a "HTT-wall". I vote for the latter.
I have not tried any beta-bios, as one of the "AMD-boys" on "diskusjon.no" (norwegian forum) recommend to stay away from beta bios for this MB (he have tried, and he have several MB's and Phenom II)
I will try some other (better) RAM, and maybe get another MB to check whether it is the CPU or DFI MB that is the "show stoppper", as I really had high hopes for my X4 920.
I have been "spoiled" with numerous OC-sessions with Intel Core2/Quad rigs that hits up top 100% OC, in average around 40% I think. The best results in the cheapest rigs.
And maybee I was a "cheapo-boy" choosing to go with 920 instead of the little more expencive 940.
With 940 I would "only" have to increase MP and VCore to get the max... preferably 4Ghz.
Problems Right Now with Current Bios for ALL D.F.I AMD Boards with New Phenom II. Taiwan is working on this and I am Testing a Alpha Candidate right Now For D.F.I that will bring universal Code and layout for all D.F.I AMD Boards ...................Be Patient its being addressed as we speak
Take my advice DO NOT Push to Hard with Current Bios. Voltage Tables in Bios Need serious attention much more so on 790FXB Models

As we "speek" I am running OCCT 2.0 on my "old" Gigabyte GA-MA690G-S3H with the X4 920 @ 260x12
Unfortunately VCore is "no-no" in the F7 bios (which is the latest and only that support Deneb/PHII). So I cannot go any further on CPU-clock (regardless of HTT/MP combos).
I am running 260x12 just to verify that my DFI board was (for now)"crap" as it only allowed HTT < 240 (also verified with an X2 6000+)![]()
The "old cheapo" Gigabyte board easily do over HTT300.
So until I get a "working" Bios in my somewhat "pricey" DFI Jr-board I will have to be satisfied.
This "session" is a very good example of how cheap you can get away with purchasing a PHII for an existing rig.
(Max load was a tad over 45 degrees).
