    DDR2 600MHz Recommendation

What would be a decently priced DDR2 4GB kit that will do 600MHz? Looking for something of good value.

You can browse thru Newegg's 9600 DDR2 list and you can find many 4Gb kits under $100 that will run at 1200Mhz. OCZ Flex. Corsair Dominators etc.

I am looking at them, but most seems to be 2GB kits instead of 4, and not many are actually in stock.
Any of the PC2-8500 stuff can do 600MHz?

with the descently priced ones i'd go with dominators or mushkin accents
if you lucky you will hit 1140 if you real lucky they might hit 1200
i like the gskills pi rated 900mhz cas 4 but havent seen any overclocking results
my redline are stable @ 1142 n i seen some do 1200 n some do barely 1060 so its luck of the draw
best bet are the gskills pc2-9600 mine are stable @ 1300 with 2.06v but 300$ a bit much

there are only a few 4GB kit that advertised as ddr2-1200 as far as i know, A-Data DDR2-1200+, Apogee GT and G.Skill 9600 PI,
the g.skill one seems to be the best and also still available widely at this time.
    also OCZ just released a ddr2-1200 4GB kit but it's spec'ed at 6-6-6-18.

Seems like Crucial RED is nice stuff, but quite a few negative feedbacks about failures with them on Newegg.

i would not even touch any crucial 2gb sticks ddr2
if i was to buy another set them gskills 900 cas 4 would have some potential
the way i see it if my gskills pc2-9600 runnin 1300 under rated volts odds are the gskills pc2-7200 cas 4 might be the chips that didnt cut it @ 1200+mhz n worth a try @ the price newegg sellin em 50$

there are multiple versions mine is PC6400 4-4-4-12 2.2v

the new stuff is labeled @PC6400 4-4-4-12 2v

the older stuff is baised off of a new set of unknown micron chips which i suspected to be in the G.Skill PI series until i found them to be a new batch of promos or Qimonda no one really knows right now. i looked between my sticks (they are actually a review sample) and pi 900 4-4-4-12 and the reds clocked higher @ better timings.

now if you wanted good/cheap the yellow ballistix clock very similar to reds ~50mhz of them

    i love my d9 1gb sticks i got a few sets
a frend got 2 sets of newer rev 1gb sticks 1 set did 1150mhz the other set did 900mhz n died in a matter of days
reminds me of my sets with d9gct
now they did put out a new revision but not good enough compared to powerchips and the new promos
the failure n incompatibility rate is too high in my book
lately crucial ddr2 is like going to the casino n playin roulette
    crucial stating incompatible with p35...
you got lucky in my book but alot of people did not
and i wonder what speed you were running them 24/7
if a set passes memtest n crashes in windows its
    i ran my older d9 ballistix 1200+ 24/7 they still 100%
    my 4gb redline runnin 1140 24/7
    my 4gb gskills 9600 runnin 1260 24/7

really lucky they clock well on P45/X48/780i/780a and i have personally tested all of these with these chips no issues at all. will try on a couple 680i's when i get them in.

this is my 24/7@2v will try at lower volts later but 2v seems pretty good for now lol

these are review sample chips BTW so they might not be ummm. the same as full retail ones

Apparently they don't - they aren't very good at cas 5 at all...I hear that the 800 and 900 kits are the same, just different rating/packing. They are much better at cas 4 than powerchips but not as good at cas 5 - highest I've heard the 900 kit go is 1066 cas 5 @ 2.1v.

I've got some OCZ Flexll that are rated pc2-9200. They are a 4gb kit,2x2. I have them running at 583mhz right now at 2.0v bios set in my board. I'm sure they'd go higher but I have not pushed them at all. I was a bit hesitant to get them as there was some negative feedback about them when they first came out, but I decided to try them after I read the article on Anand about them, glad I did now.

Here's the same ram kit as yours, Big Lar.

OCZ PC2-9200 Flex II 4GB kit at DDR2-1200

    VDimm 2.08v, NB 1.40v

But it seems to be the end of the overclocking ability on this ram kit with Q9300 and this high FSB,
may be it can go more with another CPU and more volts.

    Thanks.

but it's still not guaranteed every kit will run DDR2-1200, friend of mine was unlucky 2 times in a row.

you could try yours on a low FSB and see if the kit that you have can do DDR2-1200 at all?

Just pissin around here in dos with memtest, I can run 5-5-5-15, trfc 60 with 2.02v and pass test5/7/8 5 runs each at 1196 with a 7x multi, did not try higher. Not going into windows fartin around as I 3 days ago installed a fresh new dual boot of Vista/Server 2008, and I am not going to jack with it for awhile.

I'm pretty damn sure I can get them stable at 1200 or more in Winblows tho. Just information.

    thanks for the update.

and as my previous experience with my friend's kits, i would have to say you are lucky, just like me, that your kit can run ddr1200.

i used to come across on this page - http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...ad.php?t=45442
one of OCZ support forum manager has made a comment on the kit, "I don't have any 2x2GB modules that will run 1200. We have seen 1180 -1190 out of our 1150 4GB kit.. but not 1200."
i assume he was talking about the same 1150 4GB kit that you and i have.

Yes i am sure he was, funny thing is Anand has an article on this ram and I believe they stated they had the set sent from OCZ and another set that was purchased retail, and the Retail was better than the stuff OCZ sent. Anyhow both of thiers did 1200 as well. I think alot depends upon the board run in too.

Here's a good 1 for you tho, I purchased these from the new OCZ Refurb store. Looked to be new to me, so not sure whats up with that. Paid $98. shipped for them. I am thinking either someone had them and did not know how to run them and returned, or they are in fact new. Either way, they run fine for me.

Big Lar, you have gotten a very good deal compared to what i paid for mine.
about a few weeks ago, if i'm not mistaken, i used to see one of OCZ retailer or distributor in malaysia still have this kit for a little over 200USD or so.

i also saw this product at the OCZ online store's that you mention, i would buy the kit if i have an address in the US. they requires that delivery address must be in US. as far as i remember. please let's me know if you want to sell me yours.
