Intel to cut prices of Q9650, Q9550, Q9400 and more

    http://www.hardware.fr/news/10062/ba...-intel-18.html

As you see intel will cut the prices of the quad cores, and some of the dual core in January 18

In addition, Intel will release "low power" Quad cores that have 65w TDP

    E1200, E2180, E2200, E7200, E7300 goes EOL. And The legend Q6600 will soon aswell like the E2220.

Q9300 is already EOL and shouldnt really be on the list.

    e5200 is a champion, 67usd and multi 12,5
but the q8300 is like 2xe5200 right? it should cost a bit less...
maybe with the athlon X4 in april we will see a new price drop!?

I'm not ready to make the jump to i7 yet, so I have my eye on the q9650 and q9550s. It seems the price for the q9650 will be cheaper than the q9550s, but the question is, will the lower TDP allow more voltage headroom for this chip to OC higher than the q9650 despite the lower multiplier? I guess we'll know in a few weeks.

I'm not trying to be anol or anything, but next time can you not be lazy and just click the "quote" button? This picture isn't large or anything, but whenever you quote large pics just to say things like "oh yay", it takes up bandwidth. The pic extra pic is not needed, especially when the same one is right above it.

Guys, what is the average/most common achievable Yorkfield FSB OCing on decent watercooling setup ? Q9550 looks very promising, but unless FSB 475 is 80% guaranteed, upgrading to Phenom 2 system is still a very viable path for me.

My system: DFI LanPart LT X38-T2RS, Adata Vitesta Extreme 4 GB kit PC6400 CL4 (PC8800 CL5 easy), Silverstone Olympia 750w, Swiftech Apogee GT + CoolIT 36 cm double ply + 1000 LPH pump + 0.5" tubing. A poor clocking E8400 of mine can still run @4.2 GHz 495*8.5 daily @1.45v full load, Orthos temp is around 65 c max.

Ehm..wrong. These was announced to distributors long before Phenom 2. I7 920 is the biggest competitor hence why the pricecuts.
Plus Phenom 2 can barely compete with the Q9400.

However these should devalue Phenom 2 even more. Plus the PH2 920 and PH2 940 will quickly be EOL anyway.

High FSB is never guaranteed. If you know what you are doing then it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Again wrong, have a look at the techreport review Shintai, for real, you seem to be living in your own little world.

Great news, both the Q9550 and 9650 are great purchases at these price points, especially the latter (that 9 multi should come in handy, especially on x38/p35 boards).
The 9450 would also look great at 219$, shame that it has been EOLed...

The Q9650 becomes very tempting at these prices and this will hit AMD hard.

With these sort of price cuts, I suspect very soon AMD will have to drop the price of the PhII 940 to $219 or below and the PhII 920 to $187 or below.

That fellow who said that $180 and $140 should be the prices for the PhII's may be on the money much sooner than a lot of people suspected when he made that statement.

So , instead of a simple drop in upgrade ; you consider viable an alternative which means changing the board and having less performance FSB 475 or not ?

    Strange world we live in...

Ouch, intel puts quite a price preasure on amd, seems they want to keep them in the sub 200€ price segment, cause with this price drops the Q9400 will be ~200€ and the Q9550 ~235€.

Because in my country, my 2nd hand X38 board will mean a brand new DFI LanParty DK 790FXB-M2RS, and Intel CPU are hiked around 5-10% more in price compared to AMD counterparts (100 US$ Intel and AMD CPU in USA would mean 110 US$ AMD CPU and 115-120 US$ Intel CPU in Indonesia). I consider 4.0 GHz is almost a lock for Phenom 2 940 on water, my rig is geared for gaming mostly, and if AMD is competitive (especially in price vs performance), i'm inclined to support the underdog.

Yorkfield should have gottenpricecuts earlier IMO. Still they're not at the level which I'd concider swapping E8400 to one and PII is too slow, i5 next plz. When will i5 arrive, is it around beginning of Q3 or so?
