That's vMEM. For some reason, which is now beoynd me, I assumed you were talking about vMEM pencil mod specifically...
Anyways, to even tell if vGPU pencil mod is possible I'd need a macro photo of the large'ish black rectangular chip labeled "L6713A" and it's immediate surroundings (area-of-interest greyed out in attached pic with the measuring points).

I'm looking for a V-mod for the Sapphire 4870 512MB and also the v-gpu points.

    Any Idea?

    Thanks!

mpc, do a macro-pic from that marked area: http://ceemic.pri.ee/hardware/sapphire_hd4870.jpg
Seems the same layout and possibly the same IC also: http://ceemic.pri.ee/hardware/hd4870/hd4870_02.jpg
So there applies this guide: http://forums.techpowerup.com/showthread.php?t=65199
Soldering point is other side PCB, beneath the IC.

+1 that's a reference design so the standard techpowerup 4870 vmod guide will work for you

Awhile back sapphire started releasing their 4870s with the new cooler (black one on top)...is this the exact same reference design?

I have the Visiontek version of this card, 512mb though, it's definitely not ref design. I bought the right ohm pots just to find out when they got here i didn't have a reference design 4870 - anyone know of any guides for my card?

    It is this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129113

The PCB appears to be like that 1gb Sapphire but it's not 1gb.

Ok after I spent a lot more time researching it, it winds up being the non-reference as the Palit/Gainward, however I cannot find a volt mod for that either. I may be able to get pictures, I don't have a camera though, gotta wait for a friend to come over for those =(

For people that have done it, how much does the 4870 vMEM pencil mod help?

    Thanks.

DuncanOc, please do a closeup macro pic from the PWM area in the front of the card. Also from that 20pin IC (on the right of the green sticker in Your picture).

Either of you need to take a sharp macro pic of this area:

Name:	GAHD4850.jpg
Views:	2998
Size:	76.3 KB
ID:	92773

    And post it here.

That's a Winbond chip. And Winbond doesn't make any PWM controllers.

That chip next to the green sticker at the back of the card,in my card is the Gamer HUD chip. With that,I can overclock and overvolt(very little) the memory from a software called Gigabyte GAMER HUD.

The pic that I posted before is not mine. The only difference is that chip.

That chip in the front, its called NCP5392 and I found this pdf http://www.bdtic.com/DataSheet/ON/NCP5392.pdf

Sadly I dont have a digital cam,nor a multimeter at this time.

    Sorry for my bad english
