Nice. I'm also now playing with gtl's, it really helps getting stable with higher clocks on lower voltages.

Wow... It's been a long time since I've been around these forums now.

Finally upgraded to what's in my sig from a AMD64 3200 with 1024mb of ram...

Big difference in speed and overall performance.

I finally started messing around with the bios and this is what I've come up with so far...

Anyone have a similar setup that's willing to help me out with all of the bios settings?

    Okay reformatted didn't do anything

    Once again, specs are

    Antec 900
    GameXstream 600 watt
    P5Q Pro
    E8400 E0
    Powercolor 4850
    A-Data DRR2 800 5-5-5-18

    Settings are

    AI Overclock tuner: MANUAL
    CPU Ratio Setting: 9
FSB Strap to North Bridge: 333
    FSB Frequency: 445
    PCI-E Frequency: 100

    Read to Precharge Time: auto

    DRAM Static Read Control: auto
    DRAM Read Training: auto
    MEM. OC Charger: ENABLE
    AI Clock Twister: auto
    AI Transaction Booster: auto

CPU Voltage: 1.256 (1.224 with vdroop, tried 1.35 but had same issues)
    CPU GTL reference: 63x
    CPU PLL Voltage: 1.58
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.34 (won't even get past loading screen if any lower)
    DRAM Voltage: 1.9 (from 1.8)
NB Voltage: 1.44 (will freeze instantly in windows if any lower)
    SBridge Voltage: 1.3
    PCIE SATA Voltage: 1.6

    Load Line Calibration: Disabled
    CPU Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    PCIE Spread Spectrum: Disabled
    CPU Clock Skew : Auto
    NB Clock Skew : Auto
    CPU Margin Management : Optimized

Still freezing, random rebooting. Prime 95/Orthos runs stable for hours, or until the PC decides it feels like rebooting. The problem is, I can't crack down on the exact problem. Sometimes it boots into windows and runs fine for 2 hours then freezes, and other times it won't even get past the loading screen, in the same exact settings. So while I think changing a setting might have fixed the issue, it's just the randomness of the freezing that does. Also, when I do get into windows, it seems really awkward. Like slower, and really sluggish. And the windows logon sound happens before the logo even appears, but when I back down to 400fsb, it runs faster, but my FPS in games goes down (obviously).

Tried disabling static read control and read training and won't even post, but it used to. Maybe it's cause the settings were different or something. I only have execute disable bit enabled in the CPU config but everything else is disabled. I thought it was memory remap in NB config so I disabled it, but nothing changed.

Dark-Energy, I think it's the ram thats holding you back. I have some of that A-Data and it doesn't like anything over 420 or so. I have a set of these G Skill's running 550 at 1.9v. Can't beat em for only $50

I thought it was my ram holding me back but it was actually my CPU vcore. I need quite a lot more vcore going from 9.5 multi to 9 multi, but look at my memory bandwidth with the FSB at 1900MHz and you'll see why this is my new 24/7 clock.

Guys, I got the sudden problem.
I have been using my new E8400 E0 for 6 weeks. 500x8 @ Vcore=1,160. I stressed it with Lipack, Prime95, MemTest3.8, OCCT, SuperPi. Absolutely no problems, BSODs. Full stable. But now I can have 2-3 automatical reboots per day. I decided to encrease Vcore by 3 notches up to 1,192. It seems the problem have been resolved.
Is it possible my chip "degradated" and now it needs more volts?

    Thanks.
I am already at 4.2Ghz OCCT stable on mine with 1.35v bios (1.32 cpu-z) and no v-droop mod.
I am going to check how high I can take it too before testing for the lowest voltage needed by tweaking the GTL stuff I keep reading about
This is on an asus p5k-e with tracer memory.

No your chip won't have degraded at such a low voltage; chips tend to degrade at about >1.4v over long periods of time, and they will degrade very quickly with excessive voltage.

My 4.4GHz 1.35v OC was everything-stable just a few weeks ago, but now if I try to boot with the same settings/voltages I just get lockups and sometimes don't make it to desktop. It's just one of these things.

Ahahaaha, my chip is ok I forgot that I need 1,17 not 1,16 (see my signature below) to be totally stable. LoL.

Hey guys, been awhile since I posted on this thread, back in April it was. I had an E8400 C0 revision that ran several months @ 450 x 9 while only requiring 1.30v loaded cpuz vcore. Well, i got bored with my overclock recently (of course), and decided to start pushing the fsb upwards for many reasons, including memory bandwidth. Anyhow, I was linpacking with the chip at 500 x 8.5 (4250) and my temps were getting into the mid to high 70's, while I don't promote those temperatures, I figured for a very short period of time wouldn't hurt (~10-15 minutes while linpack was running, as no other program including orthos/prime could get this cpu that hot.) It seemed i found a new stable clock @ 500x8.5, but within a couple more days of some short benching, i found my chip to be unstable not only at the new clock settings, but also the original 450 x 9 i had been running for MONTHS, so I reverted back to stock settings, and could not find it stable there either. My rig would boot everytime, however would freeze during benching, even at stock speeds, I tried the cpu in a spare gigabyte ds3l board i have but to no avail. I just want to let you all know that my cpu was not killed by voltage, as I had NEVER since i purchased this chip in march of '08 did i ever run more than 1.38vcore thru it for more than a few minutes, and my 24/7 setting was 4ghz @ 1.30v loaded vcore. I believe this cpu to have been degraded by temperature, not voltage. I picked up a new 8400 wolfie e0 revision, let me know what you think

Quick question guys....when your computer reboots when you are trying to get more MHZ from your cpu...do you automatically assume it needs more juice or is the any other bios option that could help?
    Thanks

nice to know resyn ! thats where my auto shutdown limit is set , had a feeling about penryn and temps all along and keep mine at or below 45*c since day 1

and no shaolin never assume could be many different things such as vtt or pll let alone ram settings ... good luck

These E0 8400s are especially good. With the x9 multi my E8500 needs a lot more voltage than your chip. Awesome chip.

My e8400 E0 is going well. Definitely good bang for buck.
