    hey Zeus

Our results were not really spectacular as our second CPU wasnts even close to some of the results we've seen in AMD demo

afterall SPi loves CPU MHz so until we see a PROPER CPU that does past 6GHz its really not worth hammering out any decent results

but it will be a lot of fun once a 6GHz chip makes its way into my dangeon

I would've thought you'd give me a bit more credit than that Sampsa.

Obviously the top products from each company are to be compared (as Dino mentioned), as are the top from the new and old generations. But there's also testing @ 2.66-2.83GHz Yorkfields etc (i.e. Q9450 and Q9550 stylin - just because a QX9770 is used doesn't mean that I won't test lower clocks) and there's the obvious look into price differences for whole platforms.

In todays scene, especially with world financial pressures still being felt, there is a continued growth in a focus on a whole platform rather than a single technology (i.e. focus on CPU/Motherboard/Memory combo rather than just CPU).

In short; yes I will be and have been comparing the X4 940 against QX9770 and i7 965EE but it's not without the acknowledgement of the overall costs etc and the actual price point competition; mid spec Yorkfields.

    hey fellas

josh has the results saved on his drive

basically nothing special to see here

we tried really hard to get some half decent clocks with 4xcores and 5.2 was about as good as it gets on two different boards too lol

i decided to have a quick play with super pi before josh decided to take off home

so i clocked a single core to 5.6GHz (that was max as well )

    1M superpi with 1GHz NB was retarded....something like 14.8s
32M superPi was even works with 1GHz NB > 18m30-40s

i thought i'd test to see if it was possible to up nb freq & used 2ghz
    huge improvement
1M SuperPi was 12.17xs or 12.79xs i cant remember now
(i thought it was 12.1xx something but after seeing all these results now i must have imagined such a good score )
32M SuperPi was 14m03s from memory

no special tweaks or anything just ran it to see what it will do

i rebooted as Josh was pulling plugs out of the mobo to leave with 2.2GHz NB and 32M was looking to be about 13m52s or so...only got it up to about 5-6th loop before having to unplug it all and see Josh off

i have to say that since this is my second try (3-4 hours all up) with AMD again i am a total noob so it could be my lack of skills to OC them but that was the max we were getting and there is definitely a lot of tweaking

i can only imagine what 3.4GHz NB would bring for superpi
it will be huge plus getting tweaks right etc...i think AMD will be doing 10-11minute superpi times once we start getting proper chips & frequencies + tweaks

A picture is a 1000 words, instead of writing half of that you could have thrown 1 our way j/k

I guess you should try retail chips, i heard HT speed is fixed there so 3.4+ GHz should be more than possible
