When my first board died, it did the same thing yours is doing now. It wasnt DOA but when it gave up the cycle was the same as yours.

Thanks nogzo for the heads-up. i guess I just got a bad board. Waiting on newegg to email me back about possible RMA, otherwise it is to Gigabyte next.

Are there any overclock differences between the GA-EP45_UD3 models?
    ie UD3, UD3L, UD3P, UD3R (A$ prices from $195, $186, $226, $214 respectively)

I just want a board for max crunching WCG, plus general desktop duties, so I don't want fancy features like TPM, 2 Ethernet ports, etc. One 16x PCIE slot is enough.
I do need good power quality and quantity for the Q9650 or QX9650 CPU.

And I'd prefer separate heatsinks on NB, SB and MOSFETs.
Heatpipe systems are a con!!! The NB chip on my currently RMA'ed Asus P5Q dl sits at an incline to the board, so there was no way for the heatsink surface to make full contact with the chip, ie it could only touch 1 side of the chip! With a standalone NB heatsink, there would be no problem.

I see that the UD3L has separate heatsinks ... but will it clock as fast?

The price difference it's so small why not get the top of the line (UD3P)? This one will always get BIOS updates first.

I just got my UD3P and am really happy with it so far.

My old Abit IP35 Pro wouldn't run my 8GB of RAM any faster than 850MHz when all 4 slots were filled. Now this board runs my 8GB at 1000MHz (haven't tried going any faster, it's all I need).

Also I couldn't get my Q9550 any faster than 3.8GHz since since I couldn't get much past 450MHz FSB stable. Now it seems I can do at least 500MHz FSB and I'm running at 4GHz using a 8x multiplier.

I was really worried if upgrading from a P35 board to a P45 would be worth it and so far it very much seems worth it.

I haven't done a lot of tinkering yet. This is what I'm using so far...

    8x500 = 4.0GHz

CPU Vcore: 1.4125 (1.37 idle, 1.312 load in Windows)
    CPU PLL: 1.5
    CPU Term: 1.3
    CPU Ref: 0.76 (auto)

    DRAM Volt: 2.1

    MCH Core: 1.4 (auto)
    MCH/DRAM Ref: 0.9 (auto)
    MCH Ref: 0.76 (auto)
    ICH I/O: 1.5 (auto)
    ICH Core: 1.1 (auto)

Any problems, anything too high? I wanted to keep the Vcore under 1.4v, but I assume since the vcore read by CPU-Z is only 1.37 idle, that should still be low enough?

I haven't messed with LLC yet. It seems like I've hard bad things about this in the past. But it also sounds like this works better on this board. Is this a feature that I should use? Is it safe for daily use?

    I have a Q6600 at 3.6GHz which runs about 7 to 8fps 2nd pass encoding in RipBot264.
If I upgraded to a Q9550 at the same speed would I notice any improvements?
Ultimately I would be overclocking it some more but would like to get an idea of a like for like comparrison.
    UD3P, 4GB RAM & XP. thanks.

You will notice a small improvement due to extra cache on the new 45nm Quads. If you OC the 9550 the improvement will be even more noticeble.

Thank-you, hopefully there will be some price drops here quite soon.

    Thumbs up Quad 5+Ghz Club

    Thanks Napalm!

All I can say is I'm speechless to this board and the Q9650!

Hooked up yesterday, installed Windows 10 min ago and without any adjustments whatsoever:

    Quad 5000Mhz++ Club

    Memory speeds are amazing too.

Can't believe this came out of a $99 board!

Could be possible, but why didn't you buy the xxxP?

I am about to give up on this board. This is my second one (UD3R). The first one came DOA. This second one ran fine till yesterday. I tried to boot up and nothing happened ie. monitors read no signal. I clear battery for 12hrs, as I was at work and such. Put things back together this morning and still nothing. One point yesterday with the issues started, it would not boot. I entered into bios and set to fail-safe settings. Saved and exited. It booted up, went into window, then 30 secs later the computer locked up. Tried to clear cmos/battery again and nothing. Back to today. So I powered on and computer set there cycling. It never went to the bios screen. I thought maybe I was having hdd failure b/c i can't hear them spooling up at all, but I can't even get to the bios without the hdd's installed.

Is my second board failing or what?

Specs of set-up in sig. Thanks guys.

Many thanks for taking the time and sharing your settings, inspiration to us all.

11 hours idle must be a new test? ;-)

Thanks Yeah this can be done without any expensive high tech cooling just patience and trial and error.

Lol just showing the differences between load and idle temps and vcore fluctuation and also ppl can post Prime95 completed screens with tampered voltages showing 3hrs loaded and final results on the same day and session diminishes that probability.

These Q9650 are great chips, 12M cache and they can do 4G with very little voltages, I don't see them leaving the scene for a long time, you can build a killer gaming rig based on this chip....
    I love it...

Can't believe this came out of a $99 board!
    So true

Hey how can i squeeze another 10 FSB on this from 557fsb to 567fsb, seems the hardest 10 FSB ever

thanks for posting your info, so your run yoru cryo only for benching and/or gaming or is it 24/7...

Top Notch Info wonder when NapalmV5 will pop up.

Hey Steve! Congrats on your results again amazing FSBs!

Yeah I don't see any reason to get a first gen i7 right now, everything on it's first revision is useless. I prefer to play around with this Q9650 for a while and if they indeed get below $300 I'll get another one.

Yeah those last 10-20Mhz are the tough ones, I got that 566x9 WR with a bad Cryo-Z mount (like a WC temps) and I always used the 5:6 divider (2:40 strap) and everything else on auto settings, that was really a first shakedown but I decided to stop there cause I could blow up the chip or the Cryo. I use it for 24/7 I dunno if you saw my FlatBlackandBlue project log but that is supposed to be a 24/7 machine, problem is after I got rid of the flaky DFI x48 I cannot mount the Cryo on the Gigabyte and also I'm waiting on the MIPS blocks.

I got a Duniek Mount Kit and only then I will push the limit with 1:1 divider and manual settings.

I'm think you'll get there with manual settings and 1:1 dividers too. The 5:6 puts a lot of pressure on the MCh, pwm, ram etc.
