Are you 100% sure it is a burning smell? All new computer hardware has a strange smell to them and PSUs are some of the nastiest smelling hardware out there. How long have you been running the PSU? My TX750 took a good 3 weeks to stop smelling.

But if I were you I would file an law suit, for the health risk you went through. You will probably win good cash (plus everything Uve spent with lawyers etc) if it really exploded like that

The mere possibility of you being near it when it blew, damaging/killing yourself, the mere possibility of it burning your house down and the "immaterial" issues like emotional stress, scared, not trusting PCSU's anymore etc... Also the days you may have gone without an working PC, damaging your studies/work or messing with your daily routine.

Im an lawyer.... so i can say that all of these are possibilities for u to earn an nice sum of money
For a lawyer you have some horrible grammar

Don't sue them, this guy is crazy.

    English is my 3rd language

If you do not fell like he should pursue his rights, than thats your opinion. Im just saying how day to day court stuff happens. No need for you to get blinded by an blown PSU fragment, in order to receive compensation. Just the risks involved are enough

Being an awesome company does not mean it should not compensate for ANY damage/risk it causes to costumers. Thats how costumer service, quality control and consumer policies in general improved over time. They only change when you mess with their pockets.

positive. i've had other ppl put their nose to it to smell it to verify and its def not a good smell, something is def wrong. it didnt start smelling till one night of extensive gaming w/ far cry 2 after owning the psu for a good month.

the honeycomb part of the psu is VERY hot to the touch and in contrast a friend of mine that has literally the exact same system is using a corsair 750W and last week after 8 hours of gaming at a LAN we were both at his psu was completely cool. he was gaming @1920x1200 on an lcd and i was using an old CRT @1280x1024 so theres no way i was pushing the pixels he was, and his psu has no smell and like i said cool, hardly warmed up.

trust me, it IS the psu. i thought it was my cards at first, but i have switched them now and the smell was still there.

My Corsair HX620 recently went pop, it had actually been making some strange electric crackeling noises if I switched it off when not in use so decided to keep it switched on all the time (not the comp, just the PSU) until it went pop, it never took any components out with it though so have given Corsair another chance with this HX1000, no odd sounds (or smells) when switching it on and off.

Must get round to RMAing the 620, keep putting it off.

They share the same PCB, so I would assume that they share a lot of the same components no?

Yep, same PCB. I can't say for sure what's going on at Newegg, but it seems like Seasonic is taking the behavior of my first review sample seriously; what with it dying in the hot box and coming back to life after I took it apart. Seems like they're being recalled.

Some of the solder joints on my first one had too much solder. My second sample worked just fine though.
