Mounting and insulation is next on the list and is rather simple. The lip on the cap is sufficient enough, I use heavy duty plastic cutting board front and back mounting plates with armacell sandwiched in between.
As far as lapping well the CPU pot needs to have a base brazed on it, lapping with 1000 grit or higher would be pointless if i plan to emory cloth the bottom and braze a solid 1 1/2" x 1/8" solid stock to the bottom.

What do you use to clean your pots??

2000 grit wet sand, they arent even close to clean right now.I only hit them with 800 just to scuff them up a bit, this was used tarnished copper originally save the NB pot i'm making.
The inside you can clean with a silver polish method. Baking soda and vinegar IIRC. Rinse thourougly with hot water than take a blow dryer and heat it up really hot to evaporate any leftover water to avoid corrosion.
