Phenom II 940 3GHz beats QX9770 3.2GHz in Vantage CPU

    http://my.ocworkbench.com/bbs/showthread.php?p=441597

Personally, I believe this is 100% fake, still warm from the photoshop bench. I'll eat my words if this is true, as I am no fanboy. But, I just find this impossible for any sane man to believe.

Would the Phenom II 940 really be priced under $300 if this was true? AMD is not pricing it like that out of the good of their heart. Just think back to the FX-53, 55, 57, etc...

    Discuss.

Even so.. yay *yawn* QX9770 is yesterdays garbage, the lowly Core i7 920 is what Phenom II will be competing against.

Neither looks good for AMD. Though, I don't know what the people at Intel are thinking pricing QX chips like that. IF I was AMD marketing, all my slides are going to be against QX penryns with the respective prices bolded in the background.

Edit: I'd toss in some QX kenties too; can you believe the QX6850 and even the QX6800 cost more than i965 at some retailers?

wonder what AM3 will do when you run the chip at 3.2ghz core with L3/HT @ 3.2ghz.

I would think that Q9550's and Q9650's would be direct competitors too.

    QX9770 scores around 13000 CPU points: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/731/14/ (Radeon 4850, QX9770)

Wouldn't overclocking this chip make it a viable alternative to a Core i7?
The way I look at it, if AMD can keep the prices down, then this may very well become the price point alternative for many people.

Especially if we can build 2 x the rigs for the same price as 1 Core i7.
From a processing perspective, this could become a true bargain.
Step aside, and you won't have to feel the awesome wrath of my mustache!

Assuming the picture is real, and Phenom II does overclock like the previews have shown us, AMD might have some competitive margin.

This is assuming best case scenario, which is... Unlikely.

To get 7100 with an 13000 CPU score, GPU is close to only 5200. Far lower than what Radeon 4850s do, even with the first rev Cat 8.6.

Something's wrong in either score, but it would invalidate whatever P45/P43 OCWorkbench review if proven. :|

    Score is valid, but:

    The ORB easily corroborates this.
