Be warned 6.4.1 on 64bit vista would not download any new work, just reverted back to 6.2.19

tried updated, kept requesting 0 seconds of work.

Just thought I'd run the latest stable on a new machine. I had been running 5.10.45 for a while on the farm. Went to 6.2.19. As noted above, my gui_rpc_auth is not there on this version. (Vista ultimate 64bit) Since I manage the farm with Boincview, this is a problem. Has anyone figured out how to get it working or is boincview not going to work going forward?

I searched around a little and didn't find much on this. Figured I'd ask before I spent more time looking into it.

    Thx,
    Bob

Do you mean the 'gui_rpc_auth.cfg' file isn't there after installation? Just create the file if it doesn't exist, but if that's not the case then please explain further

Yes, it's not there after installation. I'll give creating one a shot, but I'm suspecting that this version may not support remote control.

    Bob

EDIT: made a little gui_rpc_auth.cfg file and no luck. Boincview can't see this client. (and yes, I turned on the boinc port in the Vista firewall.) It appears to be turned off or stripped out of this version?

I don't mean to sound condoning but ... did you restart the system after saving that file to your BOINC directory?

yup, twice, tried some other stuff too. command line switch? how is this performed?

I'm a dummy on this, so you have no chance of sounding "condoning" to me. I just want it working.....

    Thx,

You got the 'remote_hosts.cfg' file setup as well? Seeing as how it's a two part system there's always one piece to forget

If that's not the case, then how about posting a copy of your 'stdoutdae.txt' and 'stderrdae.txt' logs?
As they would contain whatever errors the back-end spits out, like unapproved GUI RPC clients attempting to connect.
I don't believe the logs should contain any sensitive information, they're basically just what you see in the log tab.

You may need to make a file named "remote_hosts.cfg" and put the IP if the machine with BOINCview on it in there. It's just a regular text file but with a .cfg extension instead.

I did the remote hosts thing. I run boincview on all my other machines. I've been running it for some time, so I am familiar with how it is supposed to be setup on those. (version 5.10.45 clients) There just doesn't appear to be this functionality in version 6.2.19, as far as I can tell so far.

Has anyone got boincview running with the 6.x clients?

    Regards,
    Bob

    Hi Bob!
It's not a Vista thing. It's a BOINC client thing. I run Boincview on all my other Vista machines, no problem.

Hi Dave!! Hope all is well with you.

"Franky" is tearing up the WUs now that I have it housed in it's new case.
