Yeah it will work fine, but what XP do you have do you have just XP PRo or do you have XP 64 bit.

Then it will be pointless in getting 4GB of ram since XP Pro only sees at the most if you are lucky like 3.8gb or something like that. Also 64 bit will still play 32 bit programs I believe I could be wrong but I am pretty sure they work. I used XP 64 bit before I went to Vista 64 and all my programs I have ever put on either work just fine.

But XP will see 3GB Im pretty sure.

    "Pointless"?

He has 2GB now and wants to add 2GB more. Even if 32-bit XP Pro only saw 3GB, he's still increasing his RAM by 50%.

How is a 50% increase in memory pointless?

Just saying that 4gb on xp pro wont help him I was kind of hinting go to a 64bit OS so then he can get full advantage of 4gb RAM instead of wasting the money on two stick and only getting to use one.

Ah, I see what you are saying now. I still think that a $35 upgrade (Price at the Egg with rebate right now) for a 50% bump in RAM is a good value. He can always go to 64-bit later if he wants to use the full 4GB. Especially since the OS update would be almost 3 times the cost of the RAM.
