An actual Redback spider? A really big one might get to one inch leg span. They're not that big, but they can be REALLY aggressive, and by FEK they hurt!

Errr they are tiny where I live. It's so much fun to jump on them. DIE DIE DIE . I haven't been bitten and while I'm not going to die from a bite, I'd rather forego the pain thanks.

I do plan on getting my moto licence in the next 5 years but I'll only venture there when I've finished my studies and managed to get a J-O-B. Assuming I don't balloon between then, a 125 or something should wet my taste budds enough

Like DA said they dont really get that big but when you are moving stuff that is outside (or in your garage) and you see a black one with red on it it makes you second guess yourself! They are nasty little buggers and tend to hide where you put your hands without looking! I'm just concerned that I have seen 3 or 4 in my garage as they are the ones that I have seen!

One of these ones lives on my back fence!

They get to about 10inches in size they are harmless and do a good job of eating all the flies but they scare the crap outta me. I should probably just 'harden up princess' but I'm just a sook.

Thats what you say now, wait till you ride a 125 then a 250! Hell I used to ride a 50cc moped and that did 85km/hr! lol

Don't come to my place ok. We have tonnes of huntsmans. It's quite bothersome to catch them and throw them outside because they always find a way in [under the front door most times]. Garrr I may just kill them. I like them because they catch all the other critters.

One of the places I always wanted to visit was Austrailia..Until I heard about the "critters" you guys have there.. funnel web spiders, snakes, jellyfish that kill and then the sharks..I saw a 18ft Great White on a dock years back that got tangled in the nets of a 38ft commercial fisherman.
I wouldn't even FLY OVER the same ocean that thing swam in!
Then I see a TV show about these ants, Jack Jumpers, in New Zealand..
Like prehistoric creatures that will drop you in minutes..
Austrailia might be a beautiful place but it looks like the odds of reaching puberty are 1 in a 1000

    ROFLMAO hahahahahahhahahhahaha

Err well bluebottles really suck. Back in the day [old man mode enabled] when I used to go to the beach, it was pretty common to get stung every second trip. It's not bad here, maybe we are just more stupid.

As for snakes, well I don't see many around. I mean I'm sure they are there but I can't see them.

Eight or nine of the ten deadliest snakes in the world live in Australia. You know people are tough when they call one of the or the deadliest snake in the world a "Fierce Snake".

Bloody big girl's blouse you are!

We don't get Funnel-webs out where I am (usually) they're more coastal critters. There's a lot of Huntsman spiders though, but they're harmless if freaky looking. Obviously being 4hrs drive inland there's no sharks here, either. We do get the odd 6' brown snake though ... and red-belly black snakes, and King Browns (I think they call them "Fierce Snakes" now, they'll chase you the cranky fekkers).

edit: Been years since I got stung by a Bluebottle (Portuguese Man-O-War to you Yanks) fekker hurt, too.

I got a picture that I posted long ago on the forum that was taken in Western AU of what looks like a phython of app 40+ ft dragging a cow or water buffalo?? STRAIGHT up the side of a cliff!
The dead what-ever-it-was looked like 800lbs and this snake is slowly dragging it up the cliff.
Don't kow if I still have the pic but I bet one of you guys remembers it..
HUGE snake! I mean Snakezilla's bigger brother!

I've been stung way to many times by bluebottles as a kid. If by stingers you mean Irukandjis well I'd probably would have drowned. We don't get them this far south [luckily].

I've never seen one at the beach. I've looked up and down rock pools for the little guys but either they aren't there or I just can't see em.

Until you annoy them they look like little grey/brown blobs of snot. Touch them with a stick (or your finger if you have a death wish) and they get pissed off pretty quick. The flouro blue rings are a warning to back the f*** off ... and they mean it! They'll "run" if they can, but if you grab it and sit it on your palm ... so long they get you on to life support fast, and the machine doesn't fail, you'll be fine in a few days. If not, you're boned.

Umm yeah I was looking for fairly uniform sandy things but it appears their camo was better than me. I didn't exactly want to disturb everything, mainly because my friend might have killed me [now doing honours in Marine Studies].

    Oh and trio . .. . I love the bottom right .

I'd only come to Australia with a flamethrower. I figure then I'll be able to fight off all manner of critters, and have some tasty BBQ while doing so. You guys have some plain scary animals, the amount of things that can kill you there has got to be the highest per square mile than anywhere else.

I seen a short vid once of a kangaroo that locked it's front legs around a guys head and then used it's back legs to disembowel him.
    Literally ripped out his guts..
Yea, Austrailia.. Wonderfull place to live!

You forget, this continent is THE most fire ravaged on earth. More than half the native plant NEED fire to reproduce! Try to take out a wombat with a flame thrower and it'll likely think you're hitting on it!

Not everything here wants to kill you. Take the Sulphur Crested atoo for example. It gnaws on Aussie hardwood trees to sharpen it's beak, but it LOVES to chew up soft pine ... like the stuff you yanks seem to like using for your houses.

    edit: Ok, now the swear filter is going a bit too far. It's a bird for crying out loud! A ... C O C K A T O O.
