I'm not dumping, just watching and reading. I said my share on this stuff, now I'm pretty much shutting up about supposed performance and whatnot until the chip is out. After all, I'm kinda like chew, a huge AMD supporter but got disgruntled after much frustration and went intel this round. Though I didn't get more than an 'ok' average chip anyway, so I'm more than ready to upgrade to Deneb AM3 when it gets here and put my q6600 as a dedicated cruncher

I know, and I miss Steve.
People just have to stop taking this stuff so damned personal.
I'd be classified as an 'Intel guy" by most here but that would be them not seeing the XP1600 machine I built, or the 700mhz slot A machine that was my first "home built" machine, or the FX51 that was here and was a hell of a machine for it's time.

What board options are there for these chips at this point in time in the extreme cold department?

I think Asus, MSI, and DFI have released some bios updates, maybe others have already as well.

Hmm well a good cold board has a preety clear socket area and most importantly doesn't bug out when frozen. I know they used a gigabyte and thats definitely clear in the socket department but from what i saw the only choice for a non integrated graphics board is a sb600.

Hmm well the asus has caps in the way, still can't forgive DFI so it looks like foxconn or gigabyte with integrated graphics is the only option for now. Hopefully there will a product refresh close to release.

I'm holding out for AM3, maybe by then there will be some nicer boards out. I don't know why so many have to have the onboard graphics, I couldn't care less about it for my rigs

After checking the Asus page I think they already added the phenom 2 to their latest BIOS, at least for the M3A78-T that I use. The CPU-Support list states that the latest Phenom 9950 125w is supported since ver. 0306. Latest is 0502, describe with "Support new CPUs". There is hope

If you succeed in plugging the DDR3 module into the DDR2 DIMM slot .
With AM3 CPUs, ASUS mean Phenom II CPUs.

No, unfortunately not, since ddr2/ddr3 slots are different. Therefore I'm not too disappointed that my board isn't listed and I'm going to get an AM2+ Deneb.

others have been over this in several other threads a thousand times. DDR3 is not pin ocmpatible, it won't fit.

It's totally understandable to be disgruntled about that, but there's other places to show that, just start a thread and let this one continue on with more info.

    You were not completely wrong

DDR3 DIMMs have 240 pins, the same number as DDR2, and are the same size, but are electrically incompatible and have a different key notch location.
