Wow Oldchap, nice work. If he had come a little sooner in the race us over on team Whiskey would have had a serious problem.

Good race everyone. I had a blast. Sorry I couldn't get all my toys up and running for the race, but when does the Xmas race start?

May as well make it a yearly contest if you are going to run one each month for that particular holiday occasion, Jan 1 - Dec 31...

Did it again today. Even with the -forceasm, I closed them out to play left4dead, and when I started them back up again they both closed out with missing work files. I'm going to the systray client so I can pause it.

Wait...is there even an SMP systray client? lol

    EDIT: Nope. damn

Another EDIT: I wouldn't mind a christmas race, but I think we should make it a two week race and end on Friday the 26th.

I had three alineas of text in this reply before I thought.. don't talk so much, sthu and do it

Give me a few more days, I had some issues with my sql server but I think I got that fixed today

    edit:

Catawalks you could 'try' to get them running as service, and not stop them but pauze them A paused client does not exit, and so it can not loos reference to it's work files.

On the other hand, you shouldn't have this problem in the first place. Think I asked before but are you running vista with uac and the client in program files? If so, you need to either turn uac off or more the client to another location.

    Ow I did didn't I

Mhm better hope this new sql server install fixes my issues as eoc put me on ip ban since yesterday night when I made about 722 xml queries

I have the updates already being parsed in text files but that's not really what I had in mind

Meanwhile, in an interview with the match referee our reporter states that with competition remaining hot 'til the end, the ref had to cool off for a full half hour

RoadRunner makes a good point. Ummm... to even think about running another race in December is insane. Count me out. Seriously, you are going to destroy a perfectly good motivational tool by running it into the ground. There shouldn't be more than 2 races a year. 3 might work but it's pushing things. I don't know about him but I need at least 2-3 months of stress free folding.

I seem to remember reading somewhere when running 2 Windows SMPs you had to take an extra step in shutdown and kill some processes in task manager to prevent the problem you are having. Maybe RR knows the proper procedure.

I think Christmas is too hectic to deal with another folding comp. How about Mardi Gras (February)?

    Let the good times roll!

For me it won't happen until next year. I'm going to be pretty much shut down over winter break (Dec 12 to Jan 12) due to a lack of good internet at home. I'm going to try and keep my 4870 going, maybe my 9600GSO but I doubt it

Mhm I think you both need to be listend to, as your contributions where what made the race succesfull in total points. Though, and I mean this without dismissing your effors and contributions, it's not only about the top producers, it's maybe even more a motivational tool for the lesser god's including me. Sure I can look at eoc/kakao and look at the radars there, but I'm pretty stagnant on both the team rankings and global rankings so the race allowed me to look allot broader and compare with people who I otherwise wouldn't notice as much

Besides, you don't have to be in a race to be valued around here

It's not my decission to make, I'd say if we can't reach consensis here now we could always just have a poll and let everyone vote on next race start date I'm not ready anyway, need a few more days to get the database working as I want and then I can 'keep scores' without spending allot of time on it ( besides fixing crashed applications/servers ).

Anyway, all this talk about next race, we should be celebrating the one which just ended instead, keep the next race decission to next week or so and post more referee's

When the competition is on I have to stress to much on whether any of my stations are locked up on EUEs or trying to schedule updates. I didn't stop a single machine except my day to day for updates actually so the othesr will need updates now that they can take a break. I can't imagine what RR and WFO went through.

How's about a Spring Break race? Three weeks all out and it gives us a great excuse for bikini pictures. See you guys in March!!!

Spring Break sounds like a worthy occasion. Beaches, women and brewskis. Hopefully by then I'll have at least 1 I7 online with whatever the hot vid card is at the time. I need at least 2 more copies of Vista so I can run dual-cards and dual smps.

Lol... Thanks for the reminder I have 5 machines that still need Doz updates. Only 2 machines got updated during the contest.

Jezus I almost always do my updates regardless, been ages since that messed something up ( well besides the driver getting though once ). I try to do the reboots when the smp's are cycling though

Sounds like Spring break will be the next competition, I'm ok with that gives me more time as well

    Catawalks,
Make sure you don't stop the clients.
Simply do a windows shutdown or restart.
Then after your system reboots, play your games.
Then when your ready, restart your smp clients.
I'm not using those switches, and I very rarely lose a WU with this method.

I can't do that, I run way too much other stuff to just restart. I go for uptime with my systems. I've had my main desktop up for 4 months with no problems and my server for even longer. Once I get my server back up I'll probably end up taking down atleast one of the SMP clients on this machine. Thanks for the thought but I go on and off gaming way too much to restart every time I wanna play.

And spring break sounds good to me. I'll try to get a i7 up by then. Hopefully I'll get some more hours at my "part-time" and I'll be able to build it. I noticed that on Newegg my i7 wishlist went from $760 to $820 without me changing any parts or any instant or mail-in rebates going away. So, why did those jerks have to raise the prices? I hate them until after xmas when hopefully the prices drop again.
