8800GT bios for better overclocking! *test*

the highest overclock i got out of my card is with this bios,

it's a stock ceres bios, the only thing i changed was the extra voltage to 1.1v

got 840/1944 core/shaders on water, without a volt mod,

however i had some yellow dots on white backgrounds on my msi card so i changed bios,

the yellow dots are visible in 3dmark06 cpu tests, on the bottom score bar if you want to check, if you don't have them , i think this is gonna be the best bios for you ....

if you test them out, report the results,

Here's a bios I've worked on for a bit. It's the new EVGA SSC Akimbo Bios, modified.

What I modified was:
Operating temps, to operate cooler by ramping fan up faster, ramps up over 7 seconds..
Fan idle speed 55%
Extra & VID 3 to 1.2v

It defaults to SSC speeds of 700/1002/1728
Low operating temp is now at ~40c. Never goes over 55c.

What this does:
- Allows clock speeds of (stable) 738/1002/1878 stable with no artifacts (May vary).
- Keeps card much cooler.

Though I have had no problem whatsoever, and this works great for me, here's a warning:

WARNING: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Although this bios will work on any 8800GT series card with or without the Akimbo cooler, I Accept no responsibility for a bad flash or faulty VGA device.

Just tried the voltmod on my POV 8800GT by setting exact mode to 1.1v and it made no difference. I still can't clock over 700/1700/1000 without getting artifacting in ATITool.

Try this bios if you like. It will get you a little farther. I know it did for me. I have further refined the fan speeds now too. My cards don't run over 48c now, and idle 38-42.

I already tried that and nvflash distinguished both cards independently, but I don't remember exactly what it said about selecting a card or other, but I am sure it is doable.

You can use whatever bios from any vendor as long as it is the same card model. All 8800GTs come from NVidia, and then are re-badged by vendors with their own features/stickers.

To flash two cards:

Card 1

I have a new version, which I call the XSC, which works even better than the XSSC.

I figured out via trial and error that the SC timings worked better, so used the SC_Akimbo bios and modified the following:
1.2v Extra & VID 4
SSC Clock speeds 702/999/1728 (These can be increased by you with RivaTuner or EVGA Precision)
Minimum fan idle 59% (silent)
Idle temp 41c (this will depend on your ambient temp)
Fans ramp up to 100% gradually but much quicker than previous or stock bios.
Max temp for me at 50c now (this will depend on your ambient)

This has given me greater stability (no problems whatsoever) and higher clock speeds, before artifacting, than the previous XSSC bios.

I will upload when able. I don't seem able to upload since the servers are having trouble.

thankf ro the info about switches Hor$eman , got itt flashed for future ref anyone wanting to know you cna see the big long card ids by typing nvflash --list so just match tehem up to what you see in nbitor .
now my core and shaders clock nicelt again but the ram wont OC at all not one mhz !
900 stable 904 = driver dies almost instantly ! (also tried higher same result)
anyone ever had this ?

The ram they use is rated at 1000 MHz (2000 MHz effective), so it should get to that speed ok. One consolation: OCing the ram does not gain a bunch or performance. It's the core clock that makes the big diff.

Just tried it and like another Jetway bios I tried with the 1.1v hack applied, I actually get worse results than my stock BIOS.

With stock I can get 700/1000 but with the modded bioses I can only hit 660/1000 o_O

Just made another attempt. After booting back into windows at stock settings and starting the 3d cube in ATITool (stock clocks) it acted weird (windows flickered etc). Something just isn't working right.

Guess: the ASUS EN8800GT's that have those cheap zalman-lookalike fans on them aren't built on 8800-boards but on 79xx-series boards. I noticed this when I installed the VF1000Cu, I had to use the 7900-holes to fit the VF1000 on it.

So whatever you do, DO NOT get one of those ASUS EN8800GT that have a cheap look-a-like fan on the GPU instead of the stock nvidia full-board one, you'll get a 7900-board with a G92-chip on it.

I guess if I want to do a proper volt-mod I need to check out 7900-voltmodding.

you can see that the "new" asus has a refrence design just like any other 8800GT so you're talking in the air here...(also the mounting holes are exactly the same as in a normal 8800GT and NOT a 7900GT) i think its a very good card and some reviews in the net says that this cooler is way better than the stock one.. guess asus whouldn't change the stock cooler if it was better...

Here it is. Finally worked today.

The regular stock clocks on my XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog card were 625Mhz\1512Mhz\900Mhz. I couldn't even hit 648Mhz\1566Mhz\950Mhz without it crashing using the stock BIOS. I tried your modified BIOS Hor$eman, but it would crash after a few minutes of gaming. So I used the same BIOS but I modified the clocks a little (648Mhz\1566Mhz\950Mhz) and set all the voltage settings to 1.2 except for 2D, which I left at 0.95.

After flashing the above mentioned BIOS I'm easily hitting 702Mhz\1674Mhz\999Mhz and still experimenting. Idle temps are 48c and not much over 60c under load using the stock single slot cooler.

I don't really get it since the timings are the same as my stock BIOS and none of the voltage settings should affect the memory yet I'm getting a 100Mhz increase there too. I don't know what to say but I won't complain. I would like to understand how this is possible from a scientific point of view.

If anyone has a stock XFX 8800GT Alpha Dog 625Mhz\900Mhz and are getting poor overclocks PM if you want to try this BIOS I'm using, it's been magic so far. I'll post back here when I pinpoint my final maximum overclock.

i think its a very good card and some reviews in the net says that this cooler is way better than the stock one..

If that makes you happy then who am I to rock the boat? Seriously, their own 3rd party cooler IS extremely crappy and they most likely found it cheaper to use than the nVidia reference cooler. Why they decided to NOT use the reference design as far as temp sensors are concerned (try using any third party tool to check temps and you'll find that Rivatuner is the only one if you manually set it to use the nvthermaldiode.dll driver) just tells me they skimped to keep costs down. As far as the PCB issue, that one was dealt with earlier in the thread. I just read a comment somewhere before entering this thread months ago saying it used the 7x00 reference PCB. Doesn't matter. The non-reference cooler on the Asus EN8800GT sucks and isn't worth it's weight in dirt. After I mounted a Zalman VF1000 the temps went down by at least 10 degrees.

Anyone else tested that it indeed allowed the card to go to 1.2v? I thought the lock was at 1.1v if you did the biosmod and if you tried to change the settings arround in program to show 1.2v it still would read at 1.1v.

Back to basics:- Even if Hor$eman's EVGA SSC Akimbo 8800gt had a "special" 1.2v core volts option, it would not follow that ALL or ANY other 8800gt would achieve 1.2 core volts when using that EVGA bios?

Available core volts is "completely Hardware related", and therefore nothing to do with modded settings created by NiBiTor type bios editing software ??

Typically, you will find that the max vCore (Hardware/bios) option for the 8800gt is around 1.05 for "average (600ish)" cards and can be up to 1.15v for "performance (650-700Mhz)" cards. And because it is Hardware controlled, playing around with bios settings that are outside your hardware's programmed capabilities will achieve nothing?

However, maybe a useful trick for many: Because of the bios design used in most 8800gt's, setting your bios's vCore at ANY level higher than available from hardware, or just leaving a "blank" for vCore, can have the knock-on effect of forcing vCore to default at max volts level obtainable from your particular hardware ---> mind you, this particular trick can become unreliable with cards that have a seperate "active" 2D mode which has it's vCore level different from that set for the 3D (Extra) mode !

darkflames, I noticed your sig shows "EVGA 8800gt @ 700/1850/2000" ---> you do realise that "1850" is not a Shader setting ---> setting 1850 actually causes the card's internal shader speed to default to 1836 ---> equal to (int(shader/54) x 54) !

At the "Exact Mode" tab, you just set "Extra" at 1.1v !

Of course, as posted above, setting Bios at "1.1v" will achieve nothing unless your 8800gt actually has a "hardware" programmed 1.1v option ?

Or, also as posted, if you only want to set Max Core volts for your particular card, then just leave "Extra" at "blanc" and your card will default to whatever it's "hardware" max actually is ?

I have two 8800gt's in SLI and was trying to overclock in rivatuner... i ended up getting lower scores in 3dmark the higher i pushed the cards...

would setting the speeds in the bios help me here?
