Dual Loop TJ07: Core i7 920, 4870x2

Hello all and to my worklog!

Finished ordering all the parts for my new Core i7 build last night. The specs are as follows:


Hardware:

Main Components:

Case - Silverstone TJ07 (with window)
CPU - Intel Core i7 920
MOBO - Asus Rampage II Extreme
GPU - Zotac GTX 295
RAM - 6GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333mhz (1.50v)
PSU - Coolermaster 1000w Modular

Storage:

HD MOUNTS - 3x AKASA AK-HD-03BK
DOWNLOADS DISK - 1x WD Caviar 1000Gb
OS/GAMES DISKS - 2x WD Raptors in RAID 0
OPTICAL DRIVES - 2x Pioneer 216DBK

Lighting:

4x Sharkoon CCFL WHITE lights
9x White/Grey Revoltec fans


Watercooling:

I ordered all the parts on 14/11/08 and they should be here on Wednesday, 19/11/08. I will probably take some pics of hardware on Wed but I doubt I will have time to start work until the weekend.

Please if anybody has any suggestions / ideas / examples that could help me with this build post them!

At the moment my biggest problem is where to put the pumps, any suggestions? I was toying with the idea of doing something like the following, what do you guys recon?

I have never used a TJ07 before and I am not quite sure how one would go about mounting the radiators in the bottom section? I have the HDD adaptors so I can use the whole of the space.

UPDATES:

15/11/08

1) I have now changed the Tygon 1/2" hose for XSPC of the same size, because the XSPC is black and much cheaper.


18/11/08

1) I have cancelled my watercooling order because there were too many changed I had to make and they will not allow one to make any modifications to an order where a voucher code has been used! Now I am in the process of waiting for confirmation from them and then I place another order when my full refund comes through.

2) I will no longer be using an AC Couplex waterblock for the CPU, some of you may have noticed that EK have brought out a 1366 adapter for their Supreme blocks. That is what I am going to be using instead because I already have one. Its not in tip-top condition but needs need a bit of lapping of which I will post some pics when I get round to doing it.


23/11/08

1) I Changed the ASUS RAMPAGE II x58 to an ASUS P6T Deluxe OC PALM x58 (anyone buying a P6T they are £50 cheaper at specialtech than overclockers and other retailers!)

2) I Changed the GPU block from an EK-FC4870 X2 to an XSPC Razor 4870x2 full cover block.

2) I Changed the coolant from Feser One UV Black to Feser VSC.

3) Mobo should arrive tomorrow, I will have it on air until I can get my case internals powder coated.

25/01/09

1) Gone back to the Rampage II Extreme

2) Changed the 4870x2 for a GTX 295

3) Using the triple loop for the CPU due to a leak.

4) Going to be watercooling the NB with EK waterblock.

5) Scrapping foam pads to support the pumps, going to be drilling some holes and using screws.

Awesome another TJ07 build - love this case!!

I just recently finished a dual loop TJ07 build using the same rads and pump/res combo as what you have listed above. I mounted both of my pumps on the mid plate inbetween the mb and the drive bay uprights - like this:

There are a lot of great TJ07 builds here. TurtleTrax did two rads like you and Dangals have. He has a nice build log here too.

Do you plan on sleeving your cables?

1) the rads are arranged in 120.2 > fan > 120.3 > fan with the barbs located at opposite ends. The 120.3 barbs are located at the very front of the case while the 120.2 are towards the middle. I had to use some 90 degree fittings in order to get both rads in the bottom. But considering there is not much restriction combined with one of the best performing pump/top combos I was not worried about the fact that each loop had 2 x 90 fittings.

2) a couple of holes in the mobo tray as well as one in the midplate

You dont happen to have a measured plan of the holes you did on the mobo back plate do you? I will get to work making the holes tomorrow with a dremel but without a board to measure up against i dont want to get it wrong!

In regards to the sleeving - generally most sleeving that comes on PSU cables as standard is really low quality stuff and they tend to sleeve them in a bunch as opposed to individually which is what BA was referring to. If you are thinking about sleeving then definately check out the MurderMod sleeving as there is simply no better sleeving out there!

As for the fittings the ones I used are these Koolance ones. I also had to use some 3/8 to 1/4" adapters for the ThermoChill rads aswell.

What I did for cutting the holes in the mobo tray was work out where the edges of the mb was going to be and then cut the holes a little to the inside of that so that way nothing would show once the mobo was fitted. You can get an idea from the pic i posted where you can see the screws to fit the mobo sticking out of the mobo tray. Just remember to measure 2-3 times before cutting

Your power supply comes factory sleeved, but by it's all about personal preference. If you're satisfied with it then that's all that matters. If you want to put in extra effort for the best finish then you'll want to do some additional sleeving. It's all up to you.

Did you order the low voltage version of that RAM? Intel has a spec that you should be below 1.65v vDimm.

@Dangals & BlueAqua: You have convinced me that sleeving the PSU myself is the way forward! The only things is (I do not mean ANY disrespect to your beautiful rig by this Dangals) I would not have braided each cable individually I prefer one big thick cable, but hey thats just me! Im going to have a read of Dangals' guide and get back to you guys if I run into any problems.

@Dangals: I likd the elbow fittings you used but I cant see anything like that on watercoolinguk where I have been ordering everything for this build. I sent an email to them last night to add four of these to my order before they send it tomorrow. Is that what I need? Why did you get 3/8" - 1/2"? Dont the thermochill rads come with 1/4" BSPP?

No the Thermochill rads come with 3/8"BSPP threads and not 1/4" (it was a typo of mine when I said 1/2") so you may need some adapters like these

I used a dremel with the standard cutting bit - then file down the edges before fitting the gromits.

Yes in my build the 120.3 is on the GPU and the 120.2 is on the cpu / nb combo

I will buy those adapters (watercoolinguk must be getting abit annoyed with me by now with my endless changing of my order, but who cares!). So its going to go:

RAD --> ADAPTER --> ELBOW --> FITTING --> HOSE

Surely so many adaptors and super restrictive block would kill the flow rate? Is there any way a 1/2" ID hose would fit in one of these, a 10/8mm fitting? That saves me using the adapter but I still gotta use the elbow so maybe not...

I have a pair of DDC's mounted in the basement of my TJ07 as shown below. I am using a the Feser Quad Rad as well. Here is a pic of how I have the pumps mounted. I am just doing some leak testing in this pic.

Here is another pic of my first solution using the EK dual pump block. It was very noisy and I wasn't happy with it so I switched to the config above.

Cooling everything in my sig. My first Fesser rad and it exceeded my expectations. I can't really compare it to my old set up where I used a PA120.2 and 120.3 because I'm not done with the build yet.

Nah, I take your word for it. i just wanted to be sure you knew about that. There are two different types of XMS is why I wanted to be sure you knew about that. Some are just using the older ones, but some people are not comfortable with that. At this point until we know more I think it's better to go with the lower votlage stuff and clock it up. Personally I'm a little mroe comfortable going with the lower voltage stuff and stiocking to the Intel spec. I've seen the Dominators in my sig at over 2000 already. I'm really trying to locate that kit.

The boxes are made by Hammond. All credit for the idea goes to Charles of MurderMods. Here is a link to the post where he details the use of the boxes. I'm sure you will be able to find some near you.

For me, the more I can avoid power tools the less chance I have of making a mistake, so I used Velcro to secure the rad. I used double stick tape to secure the rad boxes to the case. In short, it makes for a very secure mounting.
