I don t understand why people would spread such untrue information. I think we need a BS meter attached to the profile

We all need to get info from the sources who have first hand info such as yourself, and then help to spread the correct info so that we can null the BS. We also need to send e-mails to these places to retract false info.

Well, considering that all games coming to PC now are pretty much multi platform, ps3/xbox360/pc, games have not tested current hardware much, except for a few titles like STALKER CS, and CRYSIS, other than those 2 pc exclusives, all other games are console ports with some "enhancements", xbox 360 and ps3 will see life into 2010, ps3 should be staying till 2012 from what i have heard, so you can imagine games and graphics cannot change much, plus we have hit a wall in graphics somewhat, where there is not much to improve, maybe ways to render faster and better ways to optimize games and such..... My point being, dont expect much games to come out takin advantage of 8 threads, there is only a handful of apps that take advantage of more than 2 cores, yet alone games. Most games are still single threaded.

Not quite. Mnay mopre are coming out that are Multithreaded. Most flight sims benefit greatly from from these CPU's. There is alot that is done by the CPU in flight sims. This winter I bet Multithreaded titles are gonna become the norm, and another bet is within a year they will be haviliy multithreaded. We're into 64bit OS's being the norm now, and all current CPU's have already jheaded that way. Everything is going Multithreaded. It is as sure as Multicore CPU's are today. Those that can't code Multithreaded will find themselves obsolete and without a job. I talked to somebody about it today that does this for a living. He "grew up" with single threaded, and is having a hell of a time schooling up, and relearing how to do it efficiently.

Not just fairly well...exceptionally well. Once we figure out how to dial in all these new BIOS settings, OC's will get higher. I'd be willing to bet 4.5 is gonna be easy on water. 4Ghz on the 965 Extreme's is a piece of cake. I've already seen the BIOS shots and they did 4 on stock volts and stock air. That was on a RIIE with 3 way SLI. It rocked!

According to Tom's Turbo Mode is only for the extreme edition. Don't know if that applies to the models being tested now.

Tom's posts alot of things, but that doesn't make them correct, and in this case it was very wrong. See Dr. Who's replies. Nobody knows this CPU better than the people who worked on it. Some like to think they do though.

For the people that actually have them and have used them, they've said the exact opposite, and their OC's drive it home. There is nothing at all wrong with that board. in fact, it was generous of Intel to work so hard to make it a great OC'er. They didn;t have to include *any* Oc'ing options, but they did just for us. There are lots of people who will like that board. Telling other's not to buy does a diservice to Intel, and is rude.

I am to be VERY VERY clear, there is not Overspeed Protection, we have a BIOS setting to bypass the PCU control of Current and Power. On smackover, it is call "CPU VR Current Limit Override", and it will allow you to bypass the thermal and courant limites on the Core i7 920 ans 940. Who ever claim the otherway around did not read the specifications enough hehehhe
we have recommanded to the motherboard makers to follow our steps.
So, relax, and don't worry ...

From what I understand the 17th is official. At least I hope that info is correct. There are some places selling CPU's and stuff, but you have to hunt for them. I won't post those places here out of respect for Intel, but they are around.

I just got my i7 965 Extreme today. Going to order Rampage Too Extreme tomorrow, and will be looking hard at memory next. Might have it running sometime in the next 2 weeks or so...hopefully.

i went to 4.0 on stock cooler for a few minutes, i was idling at like 45-50C, and turbo mode still kicked in

My turbo mode is on, so it kicked up to around 4.2 when i did the run, i have DDR3-1600 if that makes a difference

edit: that seems kinda weird. I think its my BCLK, mine is 200 while his is only 135
