Are you willing to run RAID-10 on the highpoint for s & grins?

No idea. It's worse than a single drive. I kept thinking something must be configured wrong, but ran out of things to change.
With write caching off, it was getting around 40 MB/s.

Since you asked before I unhooked everything, sure. Give me a few minutes.

Nice! thx for sharing the informative & interesting results

Didn't you have 4x 1st gen Mobi's as well? What did you do with them?

    yeah, that was me
I sold them a long time ago
was going to do some 2 x Intel X25-M RAID0 today, but the second drive I got today was an engineering sample, so I'm sending it back

wow that HighPoint is a huge boost. too bad price range is out of what most people can afford.

btw, are the ice pack on those velociraptor models removable?

Great testing - thanks for the work and posting the results.
RAID5 looks like a real winner on that card. Look at the CPU utilization on R5 versus R0... Very nice!!
I did a little summary table to get the at-a-glance:

yeah, there is a 4 port version available that's around $300
I think they are, I took my WD3000GLFS out of the IcePak no problem
these are a big different as they have a little "bridge" going from the drive's connectors to some connectors on a small PCB under the Ice Pak
sorta like the inside of an external drive enclosure
but it looks like you could still remove the drive in the same manner unless they glued the connectors to the drive or something, which wouldn't make any sense at all

I wanted to do some 4 x RAID0 on the Intel ICH10R, but most of the SATA ports are on the side, and I can't get to them very well with it in the case.
I might try it later today, gotta get some studying in first

Thanks!!, I was thinking I should probably do something like this or make some bar graphs last night.

This may be a bit of a nub question, but if you'd humor me, I'd like to know if gaming performance suffers at all when using a raid card in tandem with the 4870 on the p45 chipsets.

    Thanks very much in advance.

OMG - 2xR0 & 3xR0 writes are faster than reads on the highpoint

Found a guy selling them in single auctions on ebay, got him to list them all in a buy it now so I could use the live.com cashback. They are from a dell system, so no WD warranty, but he said Dell would cover them. I'm gonna sell them off next week.

Wow, I wonder why there's such a big hit going from RAID-5 to RAID-6? That highpoint card is truly beastly.

because there is a reduction in the number of discs being "used" from 3 to 2
    compare RAID5 to 3 x RAID0
    compare RAID6 to 2 x RAID0
